This is a whitelist product, not HIPS... two VERY different things. This uses a quarantine feature to block non-whitelisted threats, and a remover for the antivirus. If a file is whitelisted, it is restored the next time you scan. If it is blacklisted then it is completely removed. This is a very good product because it works just like Comodo. Excellent detection rates.
Hmm, this does raises questions. I Agree with matt the "Allow and Block" is just Unneeded, And the setting for quiet mode why can't it be set for auto block by default. Most users don't use the settings that's why its "Advanced" Common Sense, what happen to it?
so i did a little searching today (rather bored), i actually found out that they made a channel called "MyFreeWebsite" on youtube, they are giving kaspersky cracks out, etc.
its bad, when a virus company has to do such dramatic things to even get noticed
This product looks and almost acts like a roque (from GUI to actual "prevention"), even thought it should be a legitimate product. The malware prevention methods are obscure and rely 100% on user response (which is fu*king insane tbh).
Afterall, they don't even fulfill their motto.
I would never, ever install a product like this on my computer. Never. Even the company itself seems extremely unreliable and their marketing methods are highly questionable.
Guys im not kidding see this program is amazing if your a smart user this and drive sentry i think they both get 100 percent like bluepoint but i know bluepoint detects evreything like it will always ask you if the file or program is not whitelisted and see programs do the same thing as thing but for example symantec does something similar but does not always pick up the download but bluepoint does! So it is all up to the user so its an OK product.
Unfortunately, that's what a lot of these hips type programs do. They pop-up an "Unknown Program" alert for everything that executes or downloads on your PC, and you have to make the decision whether its good or bad. A lot of them don't even have a white list for good programs. That's useless if you ask me. The whole reason the user buys a program is to let him know what's good or bad. How the hell is the user supposed to know.
yea they trashed all the other bluepoint competition then they made a vid on theres which might be good but i like sticking with spyware doctor because its sponsored and made by google and everything google you can trust

Sadly once again you are incorrect. open task manager and run apps etc...you don't see them running do you? now...lets get to the review. The entire review is all about the allow deny popups and how this is a disaster..um...well it can block silently (settings). Even if you let that one slide, the fact that it has an av engine (cloud) wasn't even mentioned. the review shows the "threats" weren't detected, i tried it against some of the links and some were detected. you're missing the point that I was trying to make. BPS does not deny the unknown, the user does. That's the problem with this app. You're relying on a regular user that doesn't like the word "no" or "deny" or "block"...regular users love clicking "open" or "allow" or "yes".

Personally, I believe that everybody needs to demand better antivirus software from all these companies. Don't be offended by this company "trashing" other antivirus softwares if they don't work. Honestly, this review is not doing us any good trying to "defend our old antivirus products" from this so called "attacks", if they don't stand a simple test...
Obviously BluePointSecurity can't deliver a good software and tries to sell stuff by trolling.. Thats the worse piece of HIPS I ever seen. No info about the "unknown" stuff at all.
You'll notice that both AVG and Kaspersky fail to prevent the keylogger we created in our lab (heuristics failure and of course not on their definitions list). As I've said before, I think Matt's reviews are great, it's the same way I would test security products. In his reviews, you'll also notice several of the products fail to prevent many of the threats. Personally I wouldn't buy a product that failed 3 of the 10 tests. That's a 30% failure rate. We'll be replacing the videos soon..
Wow...quit already with your damn comments. You already tried to get your point across, but obviously, some people have their own opinions about your product. Even though people might hate BPS, it's useless to try and change their prospective by repeating a point you want to make. Just move on.
One more thing. The grand majority of yahoo answers users do not like spammers. There have been way to many Mal Ware links posted by spammers there. To many people with infected computers from links posted by spammers on yahoo answers. Spamming Answers isn't the way.
But as long as you keep with your current way of doing, As long as this current program works the way Matt is showing us it works, You will never compete with the big boys like Kaspersky. You can't even compete with AVG free right now. AVG free is about as sorry as it gets. You guys better up your game. And do it the right way. STOP SPAMMING YAHOO ANSWERS! Stop spamming period. That would be a small step in the right direction.
sandboxes, heuristics, definitions, signatures, behavior detection and all of the other tech AV companies have added over the years is a good step in the right direction. The problem is, if you are a programmer and you load up any antivirus in a lab, it takes about 20 minutes to create a threat that isn't detected or prevented. This is the message we tried to convey with our video series. The bottom line is if you allow unknown code to run on your computer, it's only a matter of time.
To finish my above comment, All it does is make bad matters worse for the person who doesn't know any better. If you want to play with the big boys you need to stop trashing them and spamming yahoo answers. It's not getting you anywhere. It's turning people against you. Make your AV a contender with the big boys. When you make a AV that can compete with Kaspersky and do it in a none trashy way, People might start taking notice.
That's definitely one of the challenges when using app whitelisting. The user is only given the option to allow/deny apps that are not found to be infected (meaning we know about the malware). If an item is known to be infected they don't get a choice, it's removed automatically. At first BluePoint appears very simple but there is a lot of tech going on under the hood to minimize the prompts (we're working on demo vids). Whitelisting is the only true way to approach 100% prevention.
Personally i wish the bluepoint spammers would stay off yahoo answers security. There are some of us that actually try to help people. I believe There are more noobs on yahoo answers than there are people who know what there doing. All bluepoint is doing is making it harder for the person that isn't internet savvy. There are millions on answers security everyday with screwed up computers begging for help. They don't know any better. They download junk like this, It doesn't help them.
It's interesting that AppGuard received a full review and was highly praised during your review. While AppGuard is an interesting product, requiring a user to drop all protection to install software is a dangerous and cumbersome proposition. BluePoint has a fully integrated AV engine and allows end users to install trusted applications without prompts. If the app is not trusted it prompts the user to install and ensures the user is fully protected during the install. Just my thoughts.
Giving the user the ability to allow something makes the app pretty much pointless if you're trying to break into the main stream and actually sell this on a large volume.
Thank you for posting this. I'm a frequent user of yahoo answers in the security forum. After seeing this video I'm gonna make sure that every question i answer that has a post with bluepoint in it, I make sure to send the questioner here to see this. This is just another jack leg AV. I thought AVG free sucked the big one, Who in there right mind would pay for this? Kaspersky rules!!!
I'm not even really sure to start with this one. "We're showing the hackers that computers are vulnerable?" I'm sure they are already well aware of how to bypass AV products, it's not difficult. If you pickup any trade magazine you will see they are filled with stories about breaches and security incidents. When Microsoft discovers a vulnerability do they keep the issue secret just hoping nobody will notice it? The security community has never been about keeping secrets.
bluepoint, i cant believe that you guys trash the best companies out there and ur vids r showing the hackers that the OUR computers r vunerable so FUK U FUK U
The average consumer does not care about allow or deny. Just putting up the option to allow will generally mean they will pick "Allow" just to get to that web page. If it's a threat, deny it... When I downloaded a bad program out my stupidity, NOD32 caught it and put an end to it without asking to allow or deny. I didn't find out that it did this until I checked the quarantine log a month ago.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
We're not trying to make enemies here, we're on the same side! The main purpose of our video series was to demonstrate an unknown unreleased keylogger against common AV solutions. We're not saying other AV solutions are useless, only that there are potentially better ways to protect users as well as corporations than utilizing definition lists and heuristics. The reason you can pickup a paper and read about malware is in part due to the failure of those type of methodologies.
Take a look at some of the other reviews Matt has done (which are excellent real world tests by the way), many of these products fail to prevent infection. While BluePoint may not be perfect, it's certainly capable of outperforming any other product when it comes to preventing new/unknown threats. We encourage additional head to head reviews with numerous web based threats. That type of review would clearly show BluePoint's superiority in actually preventing infections before they occur.
Blue Point Security is a new Security Software Co.
that is trying to promote and make a name for themselves. What faster way can you think of to do that than criticizing the Big Fish! Take a shot at KAV, Avira, Avast, etc and you immediately get ppl's attention. This marketing approach is crude but often effective. Not here though. These ppl aren't offering anything that Comodo and others don't already offer for FREE! Anyone who pay$ 4 this is a Dunderhead. This product isn't worth $5.00.
well...you say unless you get really infected...how about not getting infected in the first place?? i run chrome and wot which helps but they dont really lock things down
at least it gives me the option to choose what runs and doesn't. the review makes it sound like it didn't block the website threats, once it pops up it's ALREADY blocked, you just can override it, duh. go ahead and run to your updates, click that button every 30 seconds hoping and praying someone will get screwed by the new virus, then they put it on their def list and finally you will be protected. idiots. atleast i'll get a pop up to click deny the next time something trys to infect me.
BluePoint did block all those other programs from running. The window that pops up is info to the user and has already blocked the application from running.
Thanks for evaluating it Matt.I got real pis.... when I saw the claims they had on Kaspersky,Defensewall and whatever. What a bunch of idiots."Deny the unknown",and then they give the man/woman in front of the computer the choice to say yes/no!?We all know how Mr and Mrs Ameica do..yes? ;)
I knew there was something fishy with a company with such an agressive marketing. They dont get my vote.Defensewall works great for me.
So you can be funny, if you really want. :) I'm sure they set up some applications to fail in the BP Security videos you are talking about. Just for this reason...I don't like BPS.
1) get rid of norton, 2) install NOD32 and "web of trust for your browser) 3) install superantispyware free for scanning just in case of other infections
hmmm i suppose but that's not really necessary unless you get really infected, nod32 and WOT should stop you from being infected if you listen to them lol
what s nod32? and i already have wot, but somtimes its very deceiving, i found a website with a good rating, asoon as i clicked on it a bunch of pop ups opened that tried infecting my computer(norton stoped them), i went back and checked WOT there was atleast 3 red circles about malicious popups for the website, yet it was still marked as a green circle website..
We also realize everyone was a bit upset about the hacking products series. Our tests were performed with a keylogger we created in our labs. Products that rely on definitions, signatures or HIPS will not prevent an unknown threat most of the time, as shown in our series. How many computers have you cleaned up that are completely infected all the while running this or that AV product? You need to ask yourself why this is happening. Things need to change and that's our goal.
The second thing to be clear about is the reason ccleaner and other legitimate applications will not be blocked. The reason they will be allowed is that they have digital signatures proving they are a legitimate company. BluePoint checks for valid digital certificates when apps are executed, if they are valid it will allow the app. Also, it wasn't shown in the video but BluePoint also has a full AV engine built in meaning it will also scan and cleanup your computer if your were infected.
Thank you for the review! We feel that for the most part, your review was fair. It would be great if the major magazines would perform real threat testing instead of simply rating products as best according to how much they spend in advertising.
A few things I'd like to make clear about the video. First, all of the threats were actually blocked and denied meaning they are not ever allowed to execute. You do however have the option to click allow and override the denial.
Have you checked your settings in this software to see if it gives the user by default the choice to allow or Block? You might can set it to block all without displaying the user choice screen. Just a thought. Good vid though. Thanks for all your vids!!
So how would a general user know wether to allow or block? Going on the "Deny the unknown" ethos, it could label an important windows update installation as "unknown" meaning the typical user would just block it.
Hey! I am 12 years old and I am very careful, and I watch all of your vids. Before I even download something I double check if it's ok, I use WOT and after I download something I always check it with Mbam and SAS before running. (even though I got Nod32 in background) Matt, not all kids are like you say, and it's quite insulting.
Hey, Ive been using NOD32 more than 3 years now. Ive switched from Smart security to normal antivirus since Ive upgraded to Windows 7.
I also do weekly scans with SAS and MBAM every week, but they NEVER detect ANYTHING. Seems like NOD32 is all you REALLY need.
And yes, NOD32 has blocked a LOT, I mean a LOT of viruses. From flash drives, torrents, zip or rar files exc. NOD32 always seems to detect the viruses!
i read your comment that you got ESET any you upgraded to Windows 7. well i got Smart Security but i got Windows Vista Home Premium, which i hate becuz vista uses to much resources. anyways, i dont if i should upgrade and take that risk ?
Windows 7 has better looks than vista, and better speed of XP. Its AMAZING! Nothing beats it.
About ESET...Both AntiVirus and Smart security work 101% in windows 7, NO problems unless if your using v3 (Free upgrade to v4 btw!) and v4 is MUCH better. ESET antivirus is just cheaper, and you can always get COMODO or just stick with windows firewall.
I also posted a comment following Bluepoints review of Geswall(they ran the Key-logger un-isolated).
This program is crap.
As you correctly pointed out, it's of no value if I have make the decision of allowing or disallowing almost every exe, as the program doesn't even let you know if that exe is or maybe malware.
The exe may be a legit program that's been compromised by malware.
hi, can you somehow edit your videos so that there are no moments where there is an awkward silence? or at least try to keep talking cause you're kinda boring the way you're talking... just a suggestion

One more thing. The grand majority of yahoo answers users do not like spammers. There have been way to many Mal Ware links posted by spammers there. To many people with infected computers from links posted by spammers on yahoo answers. Spamming Answers isn't the way.
Now' I will back off my soapbox.
Eddie1962150 2 years ago
But as long as you keep with your current way of doing, As long as this current program works the way Matt is showing us it works, You will never compete with the big boys like Kaspersky. You can't even compete with AVG free right now. AVG free is about as sorry as it gets. You guys better up your game. And do it the right way. STOP SPAMMING YAHOO ANSWERS! Stop spamming period. That would be a small step in the right direction.
Eddie1962150 2 years ago 3
sandboxes, heuristics, definitions, signatures, behavior detection and all of the other tech AV companies have added over the years is a good step in the right direction. The problem is, if you are a programmer and you load up any antivirus in a lab, it takes about 20 minutes to create a threat that isn't detected or prevented. This is the message we tried to convey with our video series. The bottom line is if you allow unknown code to run on your computer, it's only a matter of time.
BluePointSecurity 2 years ago
To finish my above comment, All it does is make bad matters worse for the person who doesn't know any better. If you want to play with the big boys you need to stop trashing them and spamming yahoo answers. It's not getting you anywhere. It's turning people against you. Make your AV a contender with the big boys. When you make a AV that can compete with Kaspersky and do it in a none trashy way, People might start taking notice.
Eddie1962150 2 years ago 3

BluePointSecurity 2 years ago
Giving the user the ability to allow something makes the app pretty much pointless if you're trying to break into the main stream and actually sell this on a large volume.
Maybe a quarantine?

Thank you for posting this. I'm a frequent user of yahoo answers in the security forum. After seeing this video I'm gonna make sure that every question i answer that has a post with bluepoint in it, I make sure to send the questioner here to see this. This is just another jack leg AV. I thought AVG free sucked the big one, Who in there right mind would pay for this? Kaspersky rules!!!
Eddie1962150 2 years ago 4
Thanks man. If they gave it away for free I'm sure some people might use it. Pay for it? Not.

bvestationfan,
I'm not even really sure to start with this one.

It's fine if you're a non-profit, but if you're selling something and trashing other products you'd better prepare for a sh*t storm.

BluePoint,
The average consumer does not care about allow or deny. Just putting up the option to allow will generally mean they will pick "Allow" just to get to that web page. If it's a threat, deny it... When I downloaded a bad program out my stupidity, NOD32 caught it and put an end to it without asking to allow or deny. I didn't find out that it did this until I checked the quarantine log a month ago.
blacksteel25 2 years ago 4
I think "unknown" means unknown to both the bluepoint program and the computer user.
If the file is unknown to bluepoint, but known to the computer user; then the file is not truly "unknown"
virkelie2 2 years ago 3
I know for a fact that Comodo Internet Security can do all that Bluepoint does and better. It gives the user more info than Bluepoint does too.
Either Bluepoint is lying, or setting these security programs up wrong.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
We're not trying to make enemies here, we're on the same side!

This product isn't worth $5.00.

jonanderson73 2 years ago
at least it gives me the option to choose what runs and doesn't. the review makes it sound like it didn't block the website threats, once it pops up it's ALREADY blocked, you just can override it, duh. go ahead and run to your updates, click that button every 30 seconds hoping and praying someone will get screwed by the new virus, then they put it on their def list and finally you will be protected. idiots. atleast i'll get a pop up to click deny the next time something trys to infect me.
jonanderson73 2 years ago
BluePoint did block all those other programs from running. The window that pops up is info to the user and has already blocked the application from running.

Thanks for evaluating it Matt.I got real pis.... when I saw the claims they had on Kaspersky,Defensewall and whatever. What a bunch of idiots."Deny the unknown",and then they give the man/woman in front of the computer the choice to say yes/no!?We all know how Mr and Mrs Ameica do..yes? ;)
I knew there was something fishy with a company with such an agressive marketing. They dont get my vote.Defensewall works great for me.

1) get rid of norton, 2) install NOD32 and "web of trust for your browser) 3) install superantispyware free for scanning just in case of other infections

whiplash984 2 years ago
what s nod32? and i already have wot, but somtimes its very deceiving, i found a website with a good rating, asoon as i clicked on it a bunch of pop ups opened that tried infecting my computer(norton stoped them), i went back and checked WOT there was atleast 3 red circles about malicious popups for the website, yet it was still marked as a green circle website..

BluePointSecurity 2 years ago
The second thing to be clear about is the reason ccleaner and other legitimate applications will not be blocked. The reason they will be allowed is that they have digital signatures proving they are a legitimate company. BluePoint checks for valid digital certificates when apps are executed, if they are valid it will allow the app. Also, it wasn't shown in the video but BluePoint also has a full AV engine built in meaning it will also scan and cleanup your computer if your were infected.
BluePointSecurity 2 years ago 2
thumbs down to your company, never ever attack another company this is why A) nobody has hear of you OR LIkes you!
pickyantivirus 2 years ago
mrizos,
Thank you for the review!
BluePointSecurity 2 years ago
i dont even know that shit!

Have you checked your settings in this software to see if it gives the user by default the choice to allow or Block? You might can set it to block all without displaying the user choice screen. Just a thought. Good vid though. Thanks for all your vids!!

So how would a general user know wether to allow or block? Going on the "Deny the unknown" ethos, it could label an important windows update installation as "unknown" meaning the typical user would just block it.
wanyal 2 years ago
Hey! I am 12 years old and I am very careful, and I watch all of your vids. Before I even download something I double check if it's ok, I use WOT and after I download something I always check it with Mbam and SAS before running.
NOD32 always seems to detect the viruses!
gamepro127onPSN 2 years ago 2
i read your comment that you got ESET any you upgraded to Windows 7. well i got Smart Security but i got Windows Vista Home Premium, which i hate becuz vista uses to much resources. anyways, i dont if i should upgrade and take that risk ?
MarcosFabianTv 2 years ago
UPGRADE!

Good review as always,
I also posted a comment following Bluepoints review of Geswall(they ran the Key-logger un-isolated).
This program is crap.
As you correctly pointed out, it's of no value if I have make the decision of allowing or disallowing almost every exe, as the program doesn't even let you know if that exe is or maybe malware.
The exe may be a legit program that's been compromised by malware.
IMHO stay clear of this Blue Point Security
