Using ArcMap 10 to join Excel data with a shapefile

It looks like when you joined the datatable all of the locations of airports dissappeared, and only the locations that had tabular data (passenger information) were visualized. Is this right? What if you didn't want to loose information but show the passenger data as additional information (rather then replacing all locations)???
