I think if he showed up in a tracksuit the 'removal of dignity' aspect of being gunged would make the whole sequence less amusing, and may have spoiled the surprise that a gunging was going to happen!

only the first 2 or 3 episodes I think were gunged like this the rest of the series onwards and all series 5 the main gunge comes from the fireplace which works much better.

this is when the super gunge was under the trap door in the other seasons of nhp the super gunge was in the fire place and to add on to that the super gunge was replaced by the white foam sprayers on the side of the walls during the ride.

I think what he meant is that he should have been gunged in the fireplace. This was only one of 2 times that the gunging didn't take place in the fireplace.
