Any modern smartphone should present itself as a viable desktop alternative. Any good desktop computer features multitasking. The iPhone can't run third party application in parallel, forcing users to run apps in series, with no background processing. The G1 is a viabl desktop replacement.. how can you compare it with the shitephone?

no, the iPhone has notification services, so you can effectively run many apps at the same time. you are talking about running apps at full bore at the same time, which isn't yet possible on smartphones, unless you want 1 or 2 hour battery life.

or you could just have a half decent windows mobile phone (the htc touch hd isnt bad, nor the touvh pro 2). Windows mobile was made for multitasking. As for battery life, my touch hd lasts 2 days before needing a charge and that includes internet browsing, video playback and some gaming for most of the time.

... i doubt it, like have you tested it for 24 hours, ive had a windows mobile phone before, it is clunky slow unfinished software plus with tmobile you have to do some hacking to get ALL the stuff you want, so far i have had no need to hack into my g1, i have tested an iphone heck i used to want one then i just wanted to keep my t-mobile dash instead since the iphone is so laggy plus im not a virtual keyboard person either, im glad i have a g1, it has some issues but hey it just came out :l

hmm, though my iphone had 16G when I bought it, and no capacity hassles and lag accessing it like my old v3x. BTW, the eye candy isn't eye candy, it makes the thing easily usable on a day to day basis. Even my 83 year old great aunty can easily use the iPhone photo browser.
