  • @frankieluvs Agreed. She was one of the greats. The Goddess. Much bigger than just her Art, which was boundless.

  • Wow ... I could close my eyes and picture myself at that concert (and I did). Excellent recording of an amazing woman. Perfect.

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • Phenominal!

  • Unapologetically African!!!

  • Try not to feel vulnerable after you hear Nina pour her heart out in each and EVERY performance. She'll make your legs all wobbly!

  • i always smoke in bed! i'll lose the bad habit.. i heard her husband was a doouche

  • oh.oh.oh. oh. heaven hell and in between all in one note.

  • Makes me shiver

  • 4:38 she looks soooo beautiful i wish black women wud wear their hair like that today nappy and happy.

  • love nina simone. got turned on to her by joe strummer of the clash years ago. she is a true diva of jazz.

  • @frankieluvs There are very few musical legends I've seen live (Bob Dylan being one). I was fortunate enough to see Nina Simone a few years before she passed away. It was a moving experience, for sure.

  • This song has nothing to do with a cigarette addiction. She is leaving, she loves him therein is the tragedy and saddness. As she leaves and knows she will no longer have him in her life it's her way of saying take care of yourself, don't smoke in bed.

  • Reading her autobiography, she explains the meaning behind this song and I have to say, for a difficult situation, she really puts it across with such beauty and tranquillity that her talent makes me weep for the current state of the music industry.

  • @grai and a beautiful "fuck you" it is

  • For Brian (Frosty) , who never smoked in bed, and brushed his teeth with soap, just for me, because I didn't like the taste of smoke. One evening he played Nina, how could I ever forget - this was the version, it's unmistakable. You must miss your ciggies up there, Brian?

  • @grai Yep!!

  • @frankieluvs I couldn't have said it better. It feels good to know that others feel the same.

  • I'm married...have told my hubb iets anger that i would take off one night, and hope he doesn't kill himself by falling asleep with a cigarette. This lady is definately saying "f u", as in "i can do bad all by myself...", as in "i don't need no man draggin me down."...this is what happens when a man gets an addiction that sucks up all his time and the family money, and puts everyone at risk of the house burning down.

  • @nidagichole

I don't think it's as base as to be about a cigarette addiction....

  • definitely not a "fuck you"! more like an "I will always love you"

  • shame we don't seem to have artists like that anymore.... so much pain in her voice, I love her.

  • beautiful Blackness. Love you Sista.

  • This music paralyses me...utterly amazing.

  • One of the best haunting tunes for the man who does not treat his wife right. Now a good song if you are that man. This is a great art song!

  • I like this video. Good work. Nina is very talented

  • @grai It's the kind of 'fuck you' I'd like to receive

  • @grai: it's the kind of 'fuck you' I'd like ti receive

  • @frankieluvs well said. Thank you. I could not have said it better.

  • goosebumps, this is REAL, like a good short story, like a well paced poignant novel, or a crushing poem, ... movement in well placed evening light...

  • she was an amazing and powerful woman, black african spirit of matriarchal love. awesome performance, a moving event, a happening.

  • nina nina.

  • So sad and lovely theme, great voice... makes you feel inside the song

  • i thought this song was from peggy lee... but i love nina too

  • @TheJazzStreet Peggy Lee did it originally. This was the first time I heard any other version. Peggy was amazing but Nina gives every song she sings a new level of emotion. I might like her version better.

  • Wheneever I sing along with this song, I can't keep myself from crying. The song makes the process so poignant. such a wonderfully sad song.

  • HAHAHA ..I love your comment GRAi!

  • Fantastic

  • Can't stop crying when I hear this song...A great Artist!!

  • i ran across this song and i cant stop listening to it simply beautiful...and its a shame so called artist dont sing like this anymore

  • why arent there any amazing souls like her now, no one has any gusto no soul no passion now. they copy the syle but with no love or feeling.

  • indeed, i agree, the jazz vocal scenes today are getting way too loungy..backgraound music to make your evening..

  • i'm trying! :)

i'm a performer, and nina's spirit has rubbed off on me.

i'm trying to bring back that TRUE art.

where what you sang about, and the emotions you emoted were REAL and not this fake, cookie-cutter stuff.

    i'm trying...

    ;)

  • @rakibrown There are, they're just not popular. Bland, flat and featureless music is in fashion now.

  • Sweet and oh so sad. Nina is a goddess!

  • very well sung, very intense and genuine.

  • such a tresure i think everyone should listen to such a great voice makes me sad in a way

  • nina forever!
