Listen, this is in no way censorship. Just because some find it (the piece of work) inappropriate to exhibit in a museum as prestiged as the Smithsonian, doesn't mean it can't be shown elsewhere. It has been exhibited many places, and therefore has not been censored. It is basically a statement made from a disturbed individual using media, being toted as art. Its not art, its a statement. There are more appropriate places this garbage can be showed.
@nascarandy10201 If you find it disturbing, you have every right to view it and voice your dissenting opinion. That's what a healthy critical environment thrives on. That's what writing is for. Write on! But you seem to suggest that the Smithsonian has to be a repository of middle-brow, unobjectionable kitsch. I think our great public institutions should be vibrant, challenging, democratic spaces. This wasn't, after all, an exhibition of vintage postage stamps.

How much money, and therefore *work*, has been destroyed by plague vectors like Wojnarowicz? Why are we taxed to help these biological terrorists die slower?
@ceecoursian yeah, unless your parents are rich like the majority of "art" students who attend art schools, who have daddy pay for it, then yeah, they don't need the government's money, but it goes far past that, art should not be censored. nothing should. children don't even censor themselves.
@drunkblackout27 The NEA money is given to people who know some one. Im not for censorship of any kind but if you sit at the Kings table you have to go by the Kings rules. Thats the way it works. If you want to be free to do what you want . Dont take government money for your art. Most of the NEA money is all given to people who know some one any ways. Its all about who you know in the end and not about if your art is any good.

if your art is worth anything then you dont need to have the government pay for it.
