the second fight isn't unwinnable you can win by casting influence on balio then sunder will hit balio but don't go into your dragon form i beat them at level 10 - 12 with that stratagy

Level up to 10 or so, get influence, use it on Balio, Sunder will start attacking Balio, heal until you have an opening, then attack Nina (waiting for her to wake up takes far too long, and turning into a dragon removes the influence effect), which will wake her up, and then heal and defend until everyone runs away to win, if you can call them running away winning.

nope its unwinnable i hade the kaiser dragon at this fight and the first i made around 2k dmg so...cheating is the best way to play a game :)

I'm surprised you didn't take the time to beat them - with the amount of damage you were taking from physical attacks, you ought to have been able to survive long enough to heal Nina and last the subsequent 5 or so rounds to "Victory."

if this is the balio and sunder fight that i remember, this fight is IMPOSSIBLE. i had a friend that once leveled up before this fight, got a shit load of cure itmes and such, fought these guys useing a auto controler, left it running over night and these guys were still alive!!! its impossible!

Win this battle is very easy:

1. Before the battle, remove his defenses, leave Ryu very fast, he must be fastest than Balio.

2. You don't need to hit Nina or even turn in a dragon, just use the skill Influence in Balio, making Sunder atacks Balio. The princess will wake up alone.

If you follow this steps, you will defeat them in level 10.

Influence is NOT required. It just makes this fight A LOT easier. Otherwise you would much higher level to defeat them both.

Also, don't turn into a dragon after using influence; it stops working if you do.

You apparently get a Broad Sword and Asbestos Armor from them (though I've never EVER EVER in my 9 years of playing the game EVER gotten the drops, so I dunno for sure myself.)

its real easy if you level up to 21 by using the bolt enemies. Then just cast protect four times and defend the rest of the match! when you win there is a 4% chance of them dropping a rare sword but i cant remember the name i think its a barborassa? oh yeah and cast influence on balio

i remember the first one, some guy did an experiment with magic ball and some other crap, pretty much he couldnt die against B+S but after leaving this process running they still didnt die. Ergo, it IS impossible to win the first fight.

Funny you should say that considering what happens in the story, of course it's possible to survive long enough to win in this particular encounter but only due to Balio and Sunder Fleeing after several turns after Nina wakes up and jets.

The stuff you can get here is basically only experience points and a low amount at that. I feel it's best to let the story take over for this encounter.

I managed to heal nina going first once and when she took off I got another turn without having either of the horse duo attack in the first turn, So I tried to survive as best I could.

yeah, nina is the key. the sooner you heal her the better. if you can heal her on the first turn and withstand their two hits, you got it made. just a balance of rejuvenate and whelp transformation.

Personally I think whelp tranformation isn't neccessary. Simply toss in an Influence to have Sunder attack Balio then heal every turn.

Not much of a reward for victory here, It's a darn shame it is, Personally, I would have made it to where if you made them run away, they'd 100% chance drop something for you, like two stat altering items. [example: Power Food]

You could fight them longer if you first cast on Balio 'influence'(learned from BossGoblin). It makes Sunder attack Balio ;)

I never actually "Defeated" balio and sunder at this fight, but you can easily survive long enough for them to run away.

Start off by casting influence on balio, so sunder attacks him like a moron. Then all you have to do is deal with balio's lightning attack. After a while, even if you don't give nine a healing herb, she'll wake up and run away.. A few more rounds later, and balio and sunder will run away.

Then nina will say "Wow did you beat them"?

And ryu will shake his head up and down.

So in a more recent game, I decided to use my gameshark to get all the dragon genes and level 99 for Ryu, I fought these guys in True kid Kaiser Form and they ran off after a bunch of turns like little pansies.

Geez there attacks sure do hurt a great deal, and If training under Bunyan and using the influence technique having level 20 to 25 or so you can survive long enough in this fight to win. but with such a lousy reward, who would want to do that. LOL, Rescue Nina Ryu, DO IT!

All you have to do is use a Healing Herb on Nina. Then she'll run away and then use Accession and use Flame Claw on Sunder. Keep on doing this until they chase after Nina.

Buy ~30 healing herbs before the fight. Then use Influence on Balio so that Sunder will attack him and keep healing yourself with healing herbs, simple ain't it?

beat them at level 13. Just use accession over and over again. Flameclaw Sunder all you want. It's not that hard really. (and you clearly studied under mygas there with that AP.. shame really)

i beat these guys plenty of times like lever 14-16

all you need to do is cast influence on balio round one. sunder will attack him now instead of you. next round heal nina, then yourself, and keep yourself healed until one of them says 'we don't have time for this' and then he escapes, then like a turn or so the other will escape to. this fight is very easy to win

One way to beat them is to first attack Nina, she'll wake up then she'll run away, eventually Balio & Sunder will run after her, but you need to be in a high level in order to survive long enough. I was at level 25 in this stage.

just after the 1st fight with these 2 when ryu is by him self is a great time to train. i was getting around 100xp a kill. i still didnt manage to beat them the second time.

For kill they, first attack Nina for she awoke, in the second turn, use influence on Balio for Sunder attack he and, during the battle, cure yourself and they escape, you win 110 experience xD

Sunder is gullible, Balio is not. Therefore only Sunder will be influenced to attack the specified target.

Actually its possible to win this battle. Well technically its not a win as they escape and you can't really defeat them yet. Have Ryu learn the skill the Boss Goblin's use and use it on Balio. Sunder will then start attacking him instead of you so you don't need to worry much about healing. Don't change into a Dragon though or else Sunder will start attacking you again.

Of course, It's basically a survival battle then and Ryu needs to influence and be strong enough to survive the onslaught of lightning. The influence comes in real handy back with the first encounter of the horse duo as if you survive, you can ammonia Rei to pilfer their items.
