The person who made this video obviously has no idea about what they're talking about.Horses don't become arthritic or lame a few years after being used for competition, horses are usually bred specifically for the jobs that people have them do. There is so much time, sweat and money put into barrel horses, that of course riders are gonna try to get as much speed out of their horses to win, other wise, the work would have all been for nothing, same goes for any competition horse.
I dont whip and hurt my horse in barrel racing he loves to run loves to get in ring and gallop is heart out so I dont know what the heck your talking about
I don't "whip and beat" my barrel horses, they love to go fast. They get excited at shows and love to compete, can't wait their turns to get in the ring. Don't talk about what you don't know about.
Are you kidding me? Where the hell are you getting your information from? Some rodeos do abuse their horses, I do agree. But "Horses don't go through fences because they fear the shock they will encounter. In the wild, they don't stand near coyotes because they fear being eaten." Really? How did you even connect those 2 things - If a horse didn't want to jump, it wouldn't. I ride a horse that goes out of his WAY to jump obstacles in the ring, without any encourangment from me or anyone else.
You do realize that horses systems work best when they are canstantly eating small amounts of food? You can't force a horse to eat if hes not hungry. Horses in the wild just stand around eating all day too.
I kinda barrel race my horse we only do it for fun tho i do want to go pro he is 16 and he was an english horse all his life when we go thro the pattern if i hit or kick him then i get slung it the dirt. i kiss and cluck araound the last barrel and i don't care what anyone says he LOVES to run he is 16 so people think he is like broken and can't run full out any more so he loves any chance to run. Do you think that is abuse? I know some barrel racers are harsh but not all of them.
@appaloosa720 you really don't know what you're talking about. seriously. most horses are not forced to jump or run barrels or poles. not all horses develop arthritis from working. are all horses supposed to just be pasture pets all their lives? making this video was a waste of your time. i jump AND game my horse, but she does it because its her job and she wants to please me. not because YOU say i whip and spur her. god horses are bred to do this. theyre a long ways off from being wild. :P
My aunt had a horse she barrel raced all its life did he was 32 years old he never had arthitic and he LOVED the barrels the horse i have now loves to run and he loves barrels poles jumping everything and i have yet to have any trouble with my horses and i have had a few and we keep all till their last day
;;are when they spin, stop, ect? It was because they were BUILT like that. Their muscles were made to be like that! They were made to do that! Like I said earlier, they just don't go around breed random horses together. They THINK. They PLAN OUT A IDEAL HORSE.
;;Reining, Barrel Racing, and Pole Bending are all Quarter Horses? Why do you ask? Because THEY WERE BRED FOR FARMING AND ATHLETICISM. Quarter Horses were bred for farming! Which means, THEY HAVE THE POWER AND SKILLS TO DO SLIDING STOPS, SPINS, SHARP TURNS, AND GO AT HIGH SPEEDS. If you don't know why they call the Quarter Horse the Quarter Horse one of the reasons is that they can SPRINT up to 55 mph in a Quarter Mile. They are BUILT TO DO THESE THINGS. Reining, you see how low their heads;;
@horsesLcool my horse barrel races and he isn't a QH... well... he has it in him but he is like 3/4 Arabain. and my mom has a finished reining horse that she uses for a trial and barrel horse(for fun just to play around and see how fast he is) and he is an American Paint Horse. and i know plenty of other people with horses that do that stuff with other breeds of horses
@1233Maya Oh yeah definitely any breed can do all those things! Especially Arabs and Paints. Sorry if I sounded like only QHs can do that stuff, any breed can do anything. :)
;;Sure you don't see these horses jumping in the wild 5-7 foot fences. But do you see pureblooded, bred to jump, perfectly muscled, WARMBLOODED horse out there do you? No. I can go on and on about it but I chose not to. And if you want to hear more then message me. Okay so now the Reining, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, ect. Western. Okay I do admit the barrel racers and pole benders DO get competitive and whip the shit out of their horses. Aside from that did you notice that the horses that do;;
;People just go randomly around the world and say 'oh lets put this horsie and this horsie together and make a baby!' Hell no! They say 'okay we need a horse that is athletic so we need a Thoroughbred, and we need something with power and so on.' And then they breed the horses. So you can have a Hanoverian which had the breeds of Holsteiner, Thoroughbred, Cleveland Bay, Neapolitan, Andalusian, and Mecklenburg. All different things to make an amazing jumping horse.;;
Your full of bullshit you know that right? Seriously. You don't know a thing about horses. Okay I do have to agree with you on the horse racing. But jumping and reining? Seriously? Okay I don't care how many comments I make but I'm going to get the point right to you. Okay for jumping...THE FUCKING HORSES YOU SEE IN THE OLYMPICS ARE BREED FOR JUMPING. They are built to jump high! They have the muscles and legs to do it! You don't see little ponies jumping 5ft fences do you? You don't think that;
lies not the truth? i barrel race a 25 year old qh mare she has no arthritis and is perfectly healthy. i take better care of her then i do myself. i like how u said it was abuse? cause it isn't the whip is used as a tool and if you really knew about horses then you would know this. horses are trained knowing that the whip is a tool and to not be afraid of it. and the same with spurs to.if you would have known this then you would know this isn't abuse. but i do agree with you on bronco riding.

I have done gymkhana for six years, (wich includes keyhole, barrel racing and pole bending). You only noted things that are sort of cruel such as whips and spurs. But the thing you forgot is how all the riders love their horses and spend thousands of dollars to keep them safe. My barrel horse loves his job, so is otreally cruelty to keep him from doing what he loves? But I dont use spurs or whips. I do howver agree that horses are raced to young and are forced to jump too high.
The thing is some types of events can be done individually using lightness and softness and considering the horse's physical capabilities and not pushing them so hard. This video demonstrates to us some of the worst horsemanship skills I have ever seen. There are people enjoying things such as gymkhana and jumping where there is no abuse. Horses don't have to be treated this way when doing these events, it all the human competitiveness that rules the abuse.
i have watched all you videos and i have to tell you your a idiot. you may want to go talk to people that actually own horses and stop pretending you do and you know what you are talking about.
A horse weighs 1000-1200lbs... if they truely didn't want to jump, they could easily throw your but to the ground. Everyone I know if their horse refused to jump they DO NOT whip them as punishment. A horse refuses a jump ONLY when the rider doesn something wrong.....
So as I do respect what you are trying to say and do agree some people are absolutely cruel to their horses, make sure you understand fully what you are saying. Because Not every rider is abusive
"jumping, horses are forced to jump obsticles beyond their limits" This is sooo untrue. My horse is limited to only jumping 3"0 do to an injury he sustained when he was little. And I would NEVER make him jump anything he couldn't jump. And the horses that are jumping 5-7ft are capable because they were BRED for it. If they weren't capable they wouldn't be clearing the jumps and or they would be refusing. "Horses jump because thei riders whip them if they don't obey"....... honestly???
I respect and agree with some of your opinions, but may I say a few things that I feel need to be corrected.
You said in barrel racing the horses are kicked non-stop and whipped over and over again... this is true in SOME cases, but not all. There are some barrel racers who do infact over spur their horse and whip constantly, but there are WAY more riders who don't. and take good care of their horses. Here is where I COMPLETELY disagree. -- continued
If horses need boots for protection of jumping and other events that riders put them through,than dont you think that the horse shouldnt be doing it to begin with?
you have your opinion and i have mine. i could see a problem with it if its a huge jump and a small horse especially if they have small hooves cuz that causes them to have joint problems from jumping. but if the horse is healthy and in shape to jump? its not like they are jumping the horse from sun up to sun down... when i jump mine for fun its like two jumps and they are like 1ft...
I'm sorry but then what are you supposed with a horse? There were several statements I did agree with. Race horses are raced way too young and too hard and some aspects of rodeos can be cruel but jumping being cruel? My thoroughbred loves to jump. I have never once whipped him.The minute we jump, he is happy again. My other horse we had since he was a baby is scared of anything but he still jumps so its not from fear... but yes some horses can be over jumped but not all of them are..
You had stated "I'm sorry but then what are you supposed to do with a horse?"
So what your basically saying is that horses only use is to be ridden and if they are unsound or unbroke,then they are useless?Your saying that if you cant use a horse,that its not worth keeping?
@appaloosa720 I guess I didn't mean it that way. We have 2 horses that can't be ridden but they we still keep them. But all my other horse are young and fit and they love to be ridden and some of them love to be jumped. If I don't ride my horses for a long period of time, they get really bored. So yes, some horses can't be ridden so they make great pets but some horses absolutely love to be ridden.
i hate western events. ;) always have hated rodeos and barrelracing. in your presentation though, you said something about how horses are forced to jump obstacles beyond their limits. well that is not all the time. i have jumped a tennesse walker 1ft, and at which she could with ease walk over it. lol anyway, my question is, is it ok to jump a horse if your not jumping at or beyond their limits? and i dont use a crop, and i dont use a crop for punishment if they dont jump. i do natural training
Well I respect your oppinion on what you had just said. What your doing is a good thing. I was reffering to people that jump their horses across jumps that are 5-7ft. Thats ridiculous.
@appaloosa720 thank you. :D i have an appendix, well a shared appendix, anyway, he is more thoughabred and with ease can jump 5 ft. i know you dont like those kind of jumps, but what if the horse is plenty capibal? i agree that like smaller horses and ponies should not jump that distance, but what about the big horses, like thoughabreds?
The person who made this video obviously has no idea about what they're talking about.Horses don't become arthritic or lame a few years after being used for competition, horses are usually bred specifically for the jobs that people have them do.
