Ex-San Onofre Rad Tech here. Your meter's audible is instant and intended to guide you to hot spots. Hot particle emissions are shielded by dust buildup on your filter so you should dislodge and isolate them. NO vacuum. For a sample of high volume like yours you should expect several times background and know that A and B emissions are not detectable by your meter. However, your meter can assist you in detecting any unusual G emission so that you can isolate that particle for further analysis.
@StratusBlue - My goodness, and folks wonder why so many people are worried about San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station which can withstand a 7 earthquake, just 1/100th of the size that destroyed Fukushima. Hot particles aren't shielded by dust, number one, and number two we certainly can pick up alpha and beta emissions. If dust could magically shield radiation, what would be the problem with living in a radioactive world covered in dust? Hey, just kidding - no way you worked at SONGS.
I have a question & concern about those spring waters that has been ship to Texas are from Paloma Mnt springs, Calif., are in cases load on palets, it's sold in food wharehouse. Are they possible it may be contaminted with radioactive from the air in Calif.? I don't have a geiger counter to detect any radioactivety.
@ACatal1 - I'm sorry we didn't get to your question sooner. I do not think that the air in California has contaminated Paloma Mountain Springs based on rainfall history and jet stream patterns.
@rpur441044 - At least less of it is in our lungs. Keeping your radiation load as low as possible is imperative, don't you think? We control our air, food and water and thanks to that, and the fact that less fallout has descended on Southern California than elsewhere where the Jet Stream is more prevalent, our rad load is much lower than most folks and certainly lower than yours. Good luck holding your breath if you don't have a HEPA filter air cleaner in your home and office.
@EnviroReporter Iam not saying its bad you have a filter.iam saying that since its measured by accumulation of said filter, that its in the air and into your lungs.Lower than mine? You dont know where iam...dont get snappy, iam on your side.
I know all about where it is and where it is not.

ok...made a new discovery today, turns out that Dutchsinse's video of 349 CPM may in fact be accurate!!...I'm not kidding
I just listened to Arnie Gundersen's interview w/ Helen Caldicott had he clearly says that Hot Particles AKA fuel flea's are attracted to charged surfaces!
that is exactly the type of filter used by Dutch in his video depicting the high count after ONLY ONE HOUR of being turned ON.

Nice video ER, keep up the good work.
CD-glad you pointed that out, i was wondering if that was a false testing by dutch due to it being incredibly high.
Very interesting, now i wonder if we can find any videos on older testing of these HEPA filters 'before' the 3/11/11 event so we can compare.

Great Work! Thanks again.
Maybe we need to start wearing HEPA Filter Helmets.
