Thanks for the compliment. If the wrist bands were meant to protect and pad the wrist I would agree, but as I don't chalk I actually wear them to keep the sweat from running off my arms and onto my hands during long sets. Sweaty hands make the bell hard to hold onto.
I recommend you watch Pavel's DVD; Enter the Kettlebell and practice proper form before using so much weight.

My best recommendation is to avoid setting the bell down if you can. Try to keep it up the whole five minutes.
