@torball13 You know, you should alert the authorities. They're currently saying that all the missing have been accounted for. They won't look for him/her unless they know he/she is missing. Good luck to you and your friend.
@chililine I did not. Thanks for asking. 9News bought it, but KMGH (7) did not. It might be a copyright violation, but news shows work under slightly different rules than other places. If they treated it as a news story -- say, a story on citizen journalism -- then they might be allowed to use it under "fair use" doctrine. I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd tell me more. I'm assuming you saw this on channel 7?
Went up to Flagstaff this evening, but you couldn't see anything :( ... I guess that's a good sign though that everything around there is all burnt out!
I'm really interested in getting some shots myself. I was wondering how you got there? I live in South Boulder, so I'm assuming you take Baseline to Flagstaff Rd... but then where is there a lookout point? I'm not sure if you know, but is the fire still even visible from Flagstaff? Thanks ahead of time!!
@Steffie2329 I'm guessing it's still visible. Yes, you go up Flagstaff on Baseline until you get to the right turn to the summit. Take that on up, then turn left at the point where you can turn right to go to Sunrise Theater. Go past the picnic shed. Follow nearly to the end and you'll see a sign for Artist's Point. Park and walk down the trail. You'll see the spot.
I've lived in boulder my whole life. Every summer, I see the side of the mountain on fire and I've been wondering why people continue to live up there. I wish the best for them.
3000 people evacuated, 92 structures burned, 7100 acres burned, slurry bombers overhead, fire 0 contained as of Wed morning...woke up to the smell of smoke this morning...hoping all the extra fire help today can contain this monster!
@helsvon They're car lights in the black foreground. They're moving up and down winding roads on the side of the mountain. Don't know if they're emergency vehicles or not.
THANK YOU! Where exactly did you shoot this from? I'm trying to match it with a google earth view. See also the incredible "fire miles" picture from very nearby in DLevin's photostream on flickr (can't seem to post a link - damn)
@nealmcb This was shot from the NW side of Flagstaff Mountain, which is west of Boulder. If you follow Baseline west on a map, you should see the top of Flagstaff Mountain. There's a road going to the summit, which is a right turn off Baseline.
@BoulderOSteens So, e.g. from Artist Point? I'm puzzled because of the lights coming at us during the video, which I figured were cars. Are those flashlights?

We who live in wildfire country or who love the mountains and canyons vulnerable to wildfires dread fire season every year, here in California. My heart goes out to those whose homes are endangered and to the animals, trees and shrubs that have no where to run.
Incredible video though. Fascinating to watch. Fire enchants in a primal way. Thanks for posting it.
