Wow!! You just bring out the essence of the song in all its beauty. I have no clue about western classical music but this is a beautiful reproduction. Ilayaraaja is my favourite Indian composer. Just a question, you seem to have an intricate understanding of the nuances of western classical music, so I ll ask you this. Where would you place Ilayaraaja as a composer?
well i don understand this major minor stuff, u & vicky talk abt. But i do understand the rise and fall of my soul for Raaja's compositions. Very few like this song. But i love this song and it had already part of the "forever" folder in my mobile.
The way he used piano and bass is literally great. I've never seen any composers (including contemporary western composers) using the bass guitar like him. Heard Anjali songs? What a composition? Especially bass guitar

Tempo was mildly higher than the original (may be about 10 BPM more.?). But this is surely a master piece from you by all means.. Recording and Sound quality is amazing.... Please do upload more videos of such quality tracks when you can ..
1. I missed the E in the E7th (and hence thought it as D+Ab+B )
2. I missed the G in the Gmin7th and hence thought it was A# all these days..
I just tried out your sequence and you are spot on. Thank you very much for the explanation.. I know what it takes to decipher such complex progression just by listening. So Stupendous stuff.. (If only these notations are published by our composers.. Sigh... ) Thanks again..
The key changes gives some kind of sinking and lifting effect. Hope you have listened to the E.T's flying theme. (youtube video id: ZZni1gomz8Y). Modulation occurs at several places. My favorite part is the music at the climax "take off" scene at 3:13. This scene has captured the hearts of millions of people around the world.
Yeah, It would be nice if the sheet music for classic Tamil film scores are published by our composers.
I was keenly watching you during all these.. You not only excelled beyond words here, you stamped your originality with your arrangement. This is commendable. Your selection of dynamics is super. one moment u r pressing full steam ahead with the forte and the next moment you are back to the whisper.. Wow ! Usage of pedal is phenomenal.. That F#7th in stanza (for "parandhu parandhu"), what perfection and dynamics man.. I was really flying. You have truly come of your own with such innovations
Indeed the first interlude is a maze. The route which Ilaiyaraaja takes here is very interesting. He anchors on note C (which happen to be a main note of D7th) and through this sub D7th he enters the domain of G (relative major). Wow! Further when he moves from G to Am to a chord of D+Ab+B (Which chord is it, Ab dim?), D min and then finishes at A#.
From here he goes into the domain of F major and returns to G.. During all these times the chromatic bass are a joy of its own.
D+E+G#+B is the 3rd inversion of the E7th chord. The chord progression is Am - E7 - Am - C7 then the F major key change (ie. modulating from G major to F major). I believe I played G minor 7th as the transition chord. Just noticed the strings C note sustained throughout the transition bar!
Absolutely wonderful.. I always used to wonder the opening few seconds of the song sounded like "These are my favorite things" from Sound of Music..Any advice on that..
Yeah, actually more than the tune, the theme (A musically inclined young lady dancing with the kids and advising them to have a carefree life!) reminds us of the songs from "The Sound of Music". Perhaps the director requested that Ilayaraja compose a song that is similar to "Rain drops on roses" , but it's good that he came up with an entirely different tune with rich harmonies and modulations. I wonder if someone like V.S. Narasimhan also contributed to the string orchestration?
great job naveen bhaiya!!!!!11

Wonderful work. Thanks for pleasing us with this piece.
You keep the flow going by playing the interludes in detail too.
You must have finished a lot of grades in the piano-learning curriculum.
Keep going!
