  • Why can't some people understand that we are all both individuals AND members of something or things larger than ourselves? Why can they not understand that giving of oneself is the highest expression of our individualism? Who as a child could not relate to a movie about an animal exhibiting altruistic behavior? Why then can adults go about saying the highest goal is selfishness? Would anyone care to answer?

  • Well done, but please give credit to Yann Tiersen for his excellent music.

  • Wow... that video was really beautiful... =) made my day

  • Great job! Enjoyed this thoroughly.

  • 1:33 WTF

  • RON PAUL NATION!

  • There are only two types of societies, one that uses law based suppression as an excuse to solve problems and one that is free without the need of higher power.

  • Amazing. Great Job! Just Great!

  • How does Laissez Faire Capitalism deal with greed and corruption?

  • @erasmusso It doesnt, because it promotes it.

  • @dave19941000 Then I want nothing to do with it.

  • @erasmusso So does most of the population of every country which has it. The biggest problem with laissez faire is that it intentionally makes it almost impossible to get rid of once you have it.

  • @dave19941000 Maybe a revolution will help, I hope that the protests that are currently going on will not just remain simple protests, I hope they'll develop into something bigger and start a transition to another system.

  • @erasmusso ron paul

  • @G0ttaBeFresh What can Ron Paul do? I believe he'd be a much better president than anyone else, but he won't change our system. The problems we face today are not just the product of greed and corruption, in fact the opposite is true, they are the products of capitalism, we need to eradicate the illness, not the symptoms. I stand for the Resource Based Economy (RBE).

  • I'm a guy that calls himself an electrician I don't have any rules or regulations to follow. I just hardwired your house to the city power supply with no breaker! I spent the money for the breaker on cocaine. Oops everyone in the house got fried. But there is no regulation so what I did was legal and there's no action the court can take against me I didn't want them to get fried...Well, off to another customer.

  • @THEINVENTABLETHREAT no, you're a retard.

  • @quantumG No, I'm the great savior. deregulation is where it's at. We don't need government regulations on nuclear plants. I'm going to make the first merger of a nuclear power plant with cancer treatment center because that's how much I care! We'll even give workers a 15% discount on all melanoma removal.

  • Yeah, that worked so well in the past. Child labor, pneumonia, black lung disease, Who'll regulate nuclear power plants dumping? I'm sick someone has just got in the way of my pursuit of happiness out of the 10,000 companies dumping which one do I sue? I'm a hunter and there is no wild life because of pollution someone impeded on my pursuit of happiness. Laissez-faire works great for Ponzi schemes. Want to buy a 6 bedroom house for 20,000!- it's made out of cardboard

  • God Bless Laissez-Faire capitalism.

  • a laissez faire market is a must but selfishness is just wrong and you know that well!

  • Capitalism is the moral social system because it protects the rights of the individual, qua man. If you google "Capitalism" you will find "The Capitalism Site" as the first search result. I recommend taking the tour. Finding it was the beginning of my transition from being a quasi-religious/quasi socialist to a man that lives by his reasoning mind.

  • I disagree that laissez faire capitalism is morally just. Morality is the compromise between an individual and the society. We are morally obligated to the society not because of any divine law or purpose but because of reciprocity. Individuals do not earn property because they are self-sufficient, they earn it because the society values their skills and labor. But arbitrary factors decide the exact value of these skills. For instance, would a mathematician (continued).......

  • @Achilles9924 .....(cont.) living in the 8th century be able to earn like a modern day mathematician ? Absolutely no because our society values these skills more than the society of the 8th century. Therefore, how can laissez faire capitalism be just if the factors that affect an individuals' ability to earn is beyond one's control ? Shouldn't there be a compromise between the individual and the society to compensate for the misfortune of others ?

  • If you believe in property rights, how could you not credit the music you used?!

For everyone who asked, the song is Comptine d'un autre été by Yann Tiersen

  • You did anarchy no justice.

    Watch stefbot's channel.

  • First Question Can you point at an Economy or Country where Laissez Faire has worked like you would want it to?

  • @N0CR3AT0R Ech. This is the same argument that the Christians make against evolution: "Its just a theory."

  • @cmbbroker how so? Evolution as we know is true based actual physical evidence. Laissez Faire "Free market" theory lacks evidence (I believe), If there is any please point to sources I am very much interested.

  • @N0CR3AT0R Ok. Let me think. Hmm. Well, you could watch this video.

  • @N0CR3AT0R

In America... Right after the American Revolution the U.S. was mainly Laissez Faire, and not only did the country thrive, but they continued to thrive for a long time. Granted the manner in which they acquired some of their profits are not moral at all. But, America was not the only one to use slaves, no I am not justifying it. When the new deal came out and progressives began to lead the way is when it became a thing of the past. It has worked, and has the ability to still work.

  • take out the background music

  • You ignore that Marxist view capitalism as depriving people of their freedom even for capitalists as capitalists cannibalize each other in response to the tendency of the rate of profit to fall as commodities devalue through labor value being spread across more units of a commodity. Basically Marxists point to the crisis in the economy as a proof capitalism makes humanity a slave to the market where there is homeless while there is a too many houses on the market

  • Awesome video and I really enjoyed the music that goes with it, but I wish you'd turn it down a little. It's difficult to understand the speaker over it.

  • forgot to say good vid

  • Yeah I agree with nauty, Laissez faire capitalism is a contradiction. The government needs to violate your property in order to protect your property. Government itself just seems illegitimate, as badly as I wish It wasnt, Laissez faire capitalism is a logical contraction.

  • @TranshumanCyborg:

The government is as crooked as industry themselves...Ever since corporations gained the same rights as citizens, their power has been abused to an extent never seen before!

  • Maybe once people realize that the government doesn't give two shits about its people anymore...then a Laissez Faire system may actually be attainable. Until then it seems far too idealistic to be put in practice. All around great job on the video boys, 5 Stars!

  • 1:49, EW I saw that statue recently. It's the one outside the FTC in Washington. Disgusting.

  • Bravo. Splendid essay. Who wrote it?

  • what music is it in this video?

  • It's from the movie Amelie

  • I personally felt this was the best video of all the entries... Cheers.

  • comptine d'un autre ete l'apres midi

  • can someone please tell me what`s the name of the song? thanks

  • The only moral purpose of government is to DEFEND INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS.

  • It's amazing how many ideas you could squeeze into less than 3 minutes! You four are amazing! The photos you attached to each point of your presentation were thought provoking, humorous and carefully selected! Well done! :)

  • the music is perfect, do not change anything

  • Personally I found the music and quality of the voice to add quite a dramatic effect that truly emphasizes the importance of the ideas being spoken. Absolutely fantastic video!

  • Very interesting ideas!

  • Very well done...but ease up on the music.

  • more of those!

  • Nicely done.

  • Good video if you loose the insipid music.

  • FYI the founders were agrarian economists not supporters of Smith

    great vid though

  • The visuals you make are good and the point you make is good, but the sound is atrocious. The voice and the music clash. Lower the music a tad to bring the voice to the forefront and then take away that horrible sound as if you're speaking into a coffee can. Make the voice warn and natural.

  • good message, however I must agree. The music overpowers the presentation.

  • Good video. 5 Stars.

  • This is a very impressive video!

    Good job!

  • This is a very good video...and it helps us think and understand about our government...i thank you guys for making this video and wish you the best

  • very impressive.

    good job, ty!

  • Adam Smith baby! Good job ty!

  • Wrong and both accounts. All capitalism is, is a social system based on the recognition and protection of individual rights. The recognition of individual rights entails the banishment of physical force from human relationships: basically, rights can be violated only by means of force. In a capitalist society, no man or group may initiate the use of physical force against others. The only proper function of the government, in such a society, is the task of protecting individual rights.

  • And you say my account of Hedonism is wrong too? How so?

  • Hedonism is an ethical term that means the good is whatever gives you pleasure and, therefore pleasure is the standard of morality. The pursuit of happiness could be hedonistic, however that's not necessarily true for everyone. I do not hold pleasure as the standard of good, so my pursuit of happiness would not be hedonistic.

  • @wjomlex "Pursuit of money" is a rude and simplistic definition. Are you suggesting there's something inherently flawed about the profit motive?

  • @Liberty4every1

Why do I sense a negative connotation in regard to "living selfishly"?

  • To love is to value. Of value to whom? To yourself. Thus love is inherently a selfish act. Which is a good thing. To have selfless love is a contradiction in terms. it means that one is indifferent to that which one values.

  • Love is selfish.

  • good video. I was very impressed. Everyone should watch this video. Especially our politicians.

  • Its a very good video and makes us all think of what we really want our government to really be, and of what we really think we need in it.

  • Great video. Thank you for making it.

  • The pursuit of happiness may be important, but at what cost? For one's desire for happiness will often trample on the pursuits of others. The unregulated pursuit of happiness seems too idealistic for me. It looks good on paper, but in reality, it will trample on 99.9% of the population. And unless you were fortunate enough to be that lucky 0.1%, you will likely object to capitalism the moment you become unfairly trampled on.

  • What we are arguing is that you are to pursue your own happiness so long as you do not violate the rights of others to pursue their happiness.

  • You are so close to right its just definitions that are wrong. We are not anarchists that was made pretty clear in the flick. Government does have a regulatory role and that is to protect life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness from other individuals or governments who want to violate that right. Laissez Faire does not mean let people murder each other it means let people be, unless they are not letting others be. Government and individual forced to leave everyone be.

  • sorry we couldnt go into that we only are allowed 3 minutes.

  • Oh okay I understand.

  • @LaissezFaireBoys _ @video description

Sorry, we can't give five stars anymore. will a green thumb do ?

    Well done

  • @Nauty03 You're a fool, that's why we have things called laws!

  • @LaissezFaireBoys "pursue your own happiness so long as you do not violate the rights of others to pursue their happiness."

That's actually not very easy to do. Why would a person necessarily stop pursuing their own happiness simply because it inhibits others from attaining happiness? Especially if said person has unchecked power. For that to work you have to assume that everyone who is to pursue happiness has some set of moral values that align with your own- which is an outlandish assumption.

  • thank you balian49, how can you possibly think that leaving things alone would have prevented the recession? the only reason the world went into a recession is because we depend so heavily on the US economy and they went into a recession. Canada wasn't hit nearly as hard as the Americans because we regulate our banking system and we dont give out 100 000 dollar loans to homeless people that they can't pay back. laissez faire is what failed the US in the 30's too

  • To continue with your argument archer912... the reason Canada was effected by the US recession is because about 36% if Canada's output is exported, and 77% of exports are shipped to the United states. This means that 28% of what Canada produces is shipped to the United States.

  • If we assume that incomes in Canada and the United states are relatively similar, this would mean a 30% decrease in Canada's economy. If (for the sake of argument) demand for Canadian exports is proportional to US income, then a Canadian recession would be about 30% as deep as the US recession that generated it. The economies of Canada and the United States directly depend upon each other. If one is effected, so is the other.

  • This is yet another reason for Canadians to open their eyes and start caring about what happens South of our boarders!

  • Nice! Although I don't necessarily agree completely with the moral argument you presented, I must say this was one of the most inspirational and well thought out submissions.

  • Simply incredible.

    Make more please.

  • SLOW DOWN stop being manic dude I can't understand you when you talk 1000 words per minute, learn to articulate

  • lmfao, i watched this to support a friend.. i have NO FUCKING CLUE what their talkin about, politics is like Chinese to me....

  • This video is far, FAR too idealistic. Laissez faire economics may work on paper and in slick youtube videos, but in the REAL WORLD they fail.

How can you suggest that the recession wasn't caused by the absence of regulation? Have you ever heard of the derivatives market? Did you stop to realize that the reason we here in Canada didn't so hard a hit was because we have a more regulated banking system?

I think you need to learn a little more about market economics...

  • What are you talking about? Fail at what? Did Hong Kong fail? Did the United States fail from 1865 to 1890 when it had Laissez Faire? Yet it failed in the 1930s after the imposition of the federal reserve, and it failed today thanks to the regulations shown. Yeah I actually have and to the extent that derivatives are not based on value they are at worst fraud, and at best lottery tickets. I have a very hard time seeing that caused the recession. You need to learn a bit more about reality.

  • How does the market from well over 100 years ago relate to what it is like today? The US failed in the 1930s because the federal reserve DIDNT act the way it did in 2008. Do you know what regulation was like in the 1920s? Virtually non-existent, and thats why it crashed. Look it up. The housing market failure was directly related to the derivative market. Didn't you see what happened to Bear Stearns? Seriously, look up any economist, and they will tell you that that was what caused the recession

  • The recession started first in the housing market idiot. The fundamental difference between Canada and the US in that market is that Canada does not have a Community Reinvestment Act.

And fuck that idea that idealism is bad. Its a contradiction in terms. Idealism means the best you can get out of reality. How can something be far too idealistic?

  • And no, that is not the fundamental difference between the Canadian and US banking systems. Canadian banks are regulated far more heavily on the groups of encouraging borrowers to take out money, where as the American system it was, for lack of a better term, a free for all.

Idealism does not take into account the human factor. Idealism says that communism is a perfect system, and like wise, that Laissez faire economics are sound. That is, as I said, REALITY. Not bitching from Ron Paul.

  • ...and by "groups" I meant "grounds"

  • damn, awesome video. Make more, please

  • Ty Mills, I enjoy your general existence.

  • Only if the "important" people in the world thought like this.. what a wonderful place the world would be

  • What a beautiful thing it would be to live in a world behaving perfectly according to economic models.

  • I like the hands-off approach. If a company has a bad business model, let it die so that new/better/efficient companies can take their place.

  • Ignorance is bliss

  • In agreement or not, this video has been very well put together.

The guys have done a good job generalizing the different forms of government and where they have fallen short.

  • thats a good video bro good stuff

  • Awesome
