Dude the first one is just a regular casino. I have the same thing. It's exactly the same as the sunburst. Lennon used the sunburst and then sanded the finish down to a natural wood color.
Number 1 sounds uncanilly authentic - like Lennon's - more than number 2 which is more 330. Wish the third had been the standard casino - sorely tempted to get the bigsby version. The Casino on paperback writer has the greatest tone in recording history - IMO.
scarborough fair- great- it seems sometimes the rickenbacker is easier to play? as far as the casino , it just makes sense john would play the rhythm to punch the elvis/mccartney song.-- but not the lead , that was george on a telecaster if i remember correctly.
i can't really understand how john had that sweet, sweet and continuous guitar sound in the Get Back solos and that deep and continuous tone in I've Got A Feeling....
My personal opinion is that compared to a strat, most guitars are harder to play. There is just something about the contours on a strat. My second favourite guitar is a tele with strat contours (purist tele owners probably won't agree with me there!!)
i understand what youre saying here. Id have to say that te JAzzmaster has the comfiest contours. But... i just love teles. They feel a bit more solid and rugged... you can bang em around and they will sound great.
Yeah I saw that haha. I know he liked his ric because the action was ridiculously low but I got a standard casino and it seems pretty easy to play and I'm not very good either haha. Maybe he put some heavier strings on it?
@ricplayer620 I'm sure it just needed a setup. He chose that as his main guitar for the few years of the beatles, so it had to feel good at some point.
@ricplayer620 He doesn't say that "the Casino" is a pain to play. He says that the particular one he had in his hands was a pain. Personally, I'll take any semi-hollow guitar over a solid-body anchor of a guitar. And, again personally, Strats are a pain to play sitting down without a strap irrespective of the weight. The slip around too much for my tastes... and again, they're brick-heavy... not as absurdly heavy as a Les Paul... but too heavy for me.
yeeeeaeaaaahhhhhh. but i mean lets face it... if you walk in a room with that beautiful silver/black case and then open it... peoples mouths will drop. even further after i bust out some licks from a 620 ric-o-sound. you cant beat a ric
i've got the elite casino and a 330 rick, i really prefer the Casino...no way...i like the rick,or better, i love the rick, but 65 Casino Elitist for me is the best...id like to try the lennon Casino....
The Natural maple Casino and Ricky sound best. "Scarborough Fair" sounds as if it were meant for that 330! BTW, I used to own a '63 Casino. Sold it for a 335, like a fool. Nice playing your doing.
For some styles, the Casinos sounded better. But the Ric sounds great on your Smiths' renditions (nice playing btw), and on Scarborough Fair, the Ric shimmers and gave me goose bumps. The Casino sounded like mud on that one.
i like the song you play at about 7:00 with the ricky, nice.I like the "vintage" pickups on your rickenbacker, why does the new models are equiped with other pickups?is it a kind of re issue model ?
Um no. I have played Squiers before and hands down, they are shit. You must be tone deaf my friend. You post a video of you playing a Squier and I'll post a video of me playing me Elitist Casino.
You must be an idiot who's been brainwashed by clever marketing. Listen, kid, you run a $100 guitar through the right amp, it'll sound like a $1,000 guitar. You pair that $100 guitar with some new pickups, it'll sound like a $2,000 guitar. If you rub off the Squier brand name from the head and apply a Fender sticker, it'll sound like a million bucks to trendy kids like you.
Trendy kids like me? You are a dumbass. Sure, a Squier will sound ALRIGHT if you upgrade the pickups and use it on a badass amp, but they suck in general. Thay are used with shitty tone woods.I'll admit, some cheaper guitars sound pretty damn good, just not a Squier. I have a $300 Gretsch, and it sounds pretty damn good, but it isn't a SQUIER.
I have 2 squires. A mid 80s japanese squire strat that I've had since new and a very recent indonesian squire custom tele with P90s that I bought second hand. IMO the pickups on the strat were really bad and eventually fell apart. It currently has custom shop 69 pickups on it and quality pots, switches and wiring and it sounds/plays really good. Build and finish aren't as good as a US strat but it's a guitar I'd never sell...
...The squire tele I only bought for the pickguard as I wanted to butcher a US tele and make it into a 72 custom with P90s but I'm that impressed with the squire that I've left it as it is. I did swap the stock pickups for Gibson P90s but it hasn't made that much difference so I may put the stock pickups back in. The switches, pots and wiring definately need replacing as the original is quite poor quality
Hey, amazing video! I'm thinking to get a Casino Elitist, the sound is fantastic! The only things I worry is feedback at high volumes and the access below the 12th fret... What do you think? Thanks!
in my opinion the build quality was excellent on both but the finish on the elitist was thicker and more durable. The nitro on the lennon marks easier. The neck and bridge pickups on the elitist are the same i.e. the neck is very loud. On the lennon, they are more even which suggests the bridge pickups is hotter. The lennon pickups are not wax potted and squeal when driven hard.
I'm sad to say that I no longer have either guitar as I needed the money to fund work on the house but from memory the necks were identical in feel but the finish on the lennon was nitro and the elitist was poly.
Thanks for the comment. The song is "back to the old house" by The Smiths. An acoustic version is on the album "Hatfull of Hollow" and an electric version is on the album "Louder than Bombs"
Thanks for the comparison, but which is the elitist. Is it the natural colored Casino? I have the George Harrison Casino with Bigsby and wonder if ir is worth the money to also get an elitist.
Thanks for the comment. Yes, the Elitist is in natural I've not played any other Casinos other than in a shop and it was a while ago. I think the Elitist range use better quality components. The catalogue at Epiphones web site has more details.
im glad that you play the smiths, johnny marr is one of the best guitar players out there

This isn't a complete comparison. You didn't overdrive the Ric.

It's called back to the old house by the smiths. The ric came with hi-gain pickups. I fitted the vintage pickups myself

ah ok,you bought the vitage pickups separately and put it on the Guitar,i think you had a good idea.i think i would do the same.

Actually, the G -> D chord was played by George Harisson. The song is called Get Back, and it is a Beatles "classic". Good job!

On the let it be vid I think Lennon played the rhythm riff at the 5th fret and I think GH played it open. I wasn't sure who did the G-D turnaround.
