Bozzio's incredible but he's lost in his drums---he needs to be in a band again, with a real leader to give him structure. The problem is he's trying to be the leader when he's not. He'll be a lot happier when he accepts that he can only be the animal he wants to be if there's a cage to break out of.
Terry Bozzio's my favorite drummer, he's just incredible, but he needs to get in a band again so all the dumb-shits out there can stop thinking they're better than he is. His solo multi-drum crusade has worn thin. It's time to put real meat and potatoes back on the plate so people can appreciate his talent. This guy is great but nobody can see it because he's chasing his own shadow.
Dear shaolinkungfu666 - there are about 60 - 70 notes on a piano; when do you ever hear even the best pianists using all of them? It's about the music and quality of the notes - not quantity.
totally true, bozzio seem more interested adding toms and cymbals rather than musically progress, he keeps on melodying with his beats, i mean its should be drumming not tambourine or something? There's no beat or tempo in what he does, its just soloing on top...
Guys don;t get me wrong, i fucking love the man, but Terry's becoming a real showboat. He hasn't really progressed at all in the last 10 years, other than his kit just getting ridiculously enormous. Wackerman and Minnemann make him look pretty, well, meager.
I do agree. Wackerman is better, and Minnemann is a fucking drum-god. i love Bozzio's set, but i think he does not really use enough of it. since I play metal and improvise most of my solos, I can honestly say that, given the chance, I could probably put more of the kit to use. I'm not saying I'm anywhere near his skill, far from it. i just want to say that he has this magnificent kit and he doesn't even fucking begin to use it to it's full potential.
Have you ever watched any Bozzio on his big kit besides this clip? He uses all of his kit - when musically called for. Dig around and watch some other clips.
Can Bozzio even reach those cyms? they look so damn high! Deng. that's insane. I would be intimidated to play something like that. just sitting there? Both of them are freakin monsters. I'm so jealous...

Wow, that's the most far-out iteration I've seen of Bozzio's kit. That cymbal mount contraption is something else, like sculpture!
