@NinJaman791 Try Them, if you like. This is my personal statement and I can tell you why I think so:
1. The composers haven't done anything special in my opinion. There is nothing extraordinary, nothing new in this music: It's just electronic music, some effectsa and a piano. (and I like normally elec. music).
2. I think the only reason, why they won is the hype around Facebook.
3. 2010 had been a very week year for filmmusic, so there weren't very competitive alternatives for this soundtrack.
@epfilmmusic I agree that there was weak competition this year but the music they used had such a modern feel and THATS what . The music IS esentially nothing new but the way it works with the narrative is extremely effective which makes the film dramatic in the way it forebodes and creates an uncomfortable and isolating setting.
@NinJaman791 I agree with that, it works, yes, but that's all. The problem is that the filmmusic has become more and more minimalistic the last years and I don't like that... even if it might work.
@epfilmmusic I agree with you but disagree on 1 thing. There were many good soundtracks this year but most of them were not nominated at all such as TRON: Legacy, The Last Airbender and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I. This won because it was a good movie according to critics.
@Winduct But look at the music if The last Airbender and Harry Potter and Tron (besides all three films had the same problem, good idea, but bad transcription). The Last Airbenders music is orchestral and had great themes, but the problem was it didn't stick with the film. The problem with filmmusic is in that case: When the film is not good, the music can't be either. Tron had indeed very interesting music, but it has the same problem. The movie does not give good room for the music, which make
@epfilmmusic s (missing s) it undetermined. With Harry Potter, well. Sorry, but the music of Harry Potter is from John Williams and not from Desplat. It sticked well with the film, but it was archetypical. That doesn't make it bad music, but not great either. That's the same problem with The social Network. It's minimalistic and archetypal. Yeah and for those who disagree with me, okay. I respect that. This is your opinion and I have mine. Ah yeah, maybe you see my point if you compare social
@epfilmmusic The problem is that the music is too good for the film. Does that mean the music shouldn't get awarded? I don't know weather to agree or not with your statement. Anyway it doesn't really matter. The Social Network won and that's that.
@epfilmmusic Nice grammar. This is why you're wrong: each track captures the overall brooding, dramatic theme of the film while adding a tasteful vibe to each scene. Hand Cover Bruise, for example, enhances the saddening tensions between Eduardo and Mark with simple piano keys and a dim, ambient tune in the background. The simplicity of the tracks make them brilliant as they can still give each scene their own dramatic sensation. Did that adequately refute your condescending statement?
@CeruleanTwist It's not brilliant in my opinion it's minimal. They have reduced their work to their minimum. Do you know that this music could be done in 2 hours with just a computer? That's why I don't like it. There is nothing special behind it. And if you have problems with my writing I don't mind. I'm not a native speaker.
There is no musician "better" than another. Music is art. There are those who claim to be musicians, or their marketers claim so, however these are not true artists, examples, Kesha, Gaga, etc. Then, there are music artists, regardless of their technical talent, who can make you feel things, like Hans Zimmer, Trent Reznor, several talented singer/songwriters, and many more. Hans Zimmer and Trevor jones know how to work things in to the music more, but all music is art, and is a family. No rivals
@clashingelements Gaga, Kesha, ect. are performers, not artists. I know you said they're not artists, but if you're looking for a describing word than there you go lol.
@clashingelements I definitely agree with you. As long as there are people (and if it might be just the composer) who like the music, the music is fine, but everyone can say if he likes it or not. That is what I did.
I was pretty surprised that this one for the oscar. But then it got me thinking. Hans Zimmer has always made outstanding, very grand orchestral compositions for films so he's always slated to win. But I found this soundtrack had the perfect amount of mystery and and an overall sinking feeling. Just like the situation in the movie.
@MahdiRanger When Eduardo goes to the bank to freeze the account while Mark and Sean are meeting with Peter Thiel who makes an angel investment of 500,000 dollars.
The only reason why they won was because it wasn't like an orchestrated song. this is completely different and definitely fits the tone of the story AND the film. Plus it's ORIGINAL. Sure they might've remixed a few classic songs, but this actually WORKED! get it in your heads.
The reason it wasn't nominated is that it's based on Tchaikovskys Swan Lake Ballet and was only enriched. It's a soundtrack worth hearing and it's far better than this here in my opinion, because there's so much melody and harmony and disharmony in it and so much subtle and obvious tension. It's perhaps too classic for someone who likes this, but please get to know it, it's worth it!
@calahoon22 Actually the reason it didn't get nominated was because it uses music from the ballet Black Swan, disqualifying it as an "Original" score, according to the Academy's rules.
Let's face it...this was trippy and cool But IT HAS NOTHING ON THE INCEPTION SOUNDTRACK!!! Typical Hollywood bullshit at the Globes again...quite a travesty of justice there...The only ST that comes close is the Tron Legacy soundtrack...
@MrSupastar83 I couldn't agree more. The Academy doesn't know much about music, so they made a naive decision. Also, anyone who thinks Inception's soundtrack is unoriginal clearly lacks a musical ear. The thing's Zimmer did are quite unique compared to most scores. If anything, this soundtrack is not that original. Most of it sounds repetitive and sounds no different than typical electronica music. Yes, it's a solid soundtrack worth listening to, but it doesn't compare to the Inception score.
@TheUnknown4111 You obviously don't understand what separates a movie soundtrack from regular music.
Movie soundtracks aren't about making songs that sell on itunes, the soundtrack is part of the movie, it adds emotion and atmosphere. When you watch the beginning of the movie, and they have a 4 minute scene of Mark running...that scene would be empty if it weren't for "Hand Covers Bruise" playing in the background, you can feel the situation, how the character is feeling...it's amazing.
@Markkoh94 Thanks for trying to help.... but im pretty sure thats not it :( Im talking about the scene when the guys are like "right or left" and it switches between the party scene and mark zuckenberg on his computer. After Edwardo gives him the algorithm and before the network crashes. Can anyone who knows PLEASE help?????
no its definity the music in that scene, its In Motion - Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross . If I'm not mistaken the music you are talking about has a electronic beat, and I have the movie with me and thats the music that was used.
@Markkoh94 Once Again, I appreciate your help and maybe I was a bit unclear but im talking about the scene when fasemash is actually made and was going viral. Its also the music playing when the girls are making out. Im pretty sure the song u told me was when mark is getting the pictures FOR fasemash (when he's hacking and the girls are coming out of the bus). Anyway, i found out that the song I was asking for is Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - A Familiar Taste. Anyway, thanks for the help!!!

Christy: When did you get back?
Eduardo Saverin: I got back this afternoon.
Christy: And when were you going to call me?
Eduardo Saverin: Chris, it was kind of a rough trip and I was tired and...
Christy: Or answer one of my 47 texts? Did you know I sent 47 texts?
Eduardo Saverin: I did, and I thought that was incredibly normal behavior.
