why not get hammer with sotgun?

two reasons:

1. the hammer has a tendency to set off grenades that are on the ground, and that could result in a useless death

2. the hammer is too overpowered against the flood. you want to keep the flood at long range from you, and when they are up close, you want to use the shotgun, so you can back away while you fire. the hammer's lunge can leave open to attack from behind
