  • look china airline in the water mustve been 100 billion

of them on the plane at the same time and the brakes went

out because they were made in china.

  • couldnt give a fuck about the airport the music is ACE

  • why they clised the kai tak???

    it was a beutiful airport!

  • This is a video site dummy.

  • I was on PAN AM 747 and landed there 27 yrs ago ....wohh.....

  • i remember flying from Australia to Hong kong about twenty yrs ago coming in at night i could see people in there apartments i couldn,t believe how close we were blew me away

  • I hated that airport. The landings were always bad.

  • 0:44 go around?

  • 1:10 a display stand for the 747!! lol.

  • 0:54 did that hit the runway to ?

  • Yes, the engine ducting hit the runway and caused some mild turbine damage. The plane landed safely, but it was put out of service for quite a while.

Accidents like this happen quite often elsewhere, but they're usually 'hidden' or kept silent from Western media.

  • what happened at 0:55? did the engine hit the runway? :o

  • yes

  • looks like it and gaain at 59!!

  • i can see why its closed

  • that chian air on 1:23 ran off the end off the runway on take off and the board of the airport said its far to dangerous so they closed it and made a new airport

  • it was landing during typhoon and went past 2/3 of runway even though the control people said to go around

  • The main-reason they closed the airport was the immense number of take offs und landings. They couldn´t handle any more planes, because of the small airport. The airport reached the maximum of capacity in the early 1990s. And a landing in Kai Tak was challenging, but not dangerous.

    I miss Kai Tak :)

  • Lol 1:10, You wouldnt think a house like that could support a 747 ... xD lol

  • lol that was what i was thinking!

  • what a nice roof-piece! I want one (except a 757 in TWA colors)!

  • Thats an Old Picture! They dont have Canadian Airlines anymore

  • At 0:33 ones just taken off as one is landing, theyre both 747s and the one taking off could have left a large wake and it could of interupted the 1 landing, in some ways its good they closed this airport.

  • Nice video...

Things just arn't the same when you land at the new airport in Hong Kong nowadays.

  • But they dont use this airport as the main anymore,, built a brand new one with double strips.

  • ain't never flying again. Never going to Hong Kong for sure.

  • dont worry, half of this runway has now been ripped up, theres are new airport there, with 2 runways and no scary approach!

  • I've just cancelled my honkers holiday

  • funny how there has been a minimal amount of crashes here compared to other airports

  • @haloavenger The airlines only send some of their best, most experienced pilot to fly this route! That's why there's rare an accident in Kai Tak!

  • @cooleyculchie nonsense

  • Wow, at 0:56 the right engine touches the ground!!!!

  • saw that too! messed eh lol

  • yeah...

you can see some of the smoke from the impact trailing behind it.

  • its the left one

  • China airlines put a brand new 747-400, less than a week in service, in the water at the end of this runway. The Vertical Stab was a hazard for departing aircraft, so airport operations went out in a boat, rigged the tail with explosives and blew it off. This airplane was less than a week old!!.

    The show must go on!!!

  • That's crazy.

  • i take it asians cant drive planes either?

  • lol

  • believe it or not but most old pilots love kaitak,,,,

  • Uh man this is crazy..........

  • tower control: hmm..what a great day..of the 60 landings..58 in the water, yesterday it was 59! must celebrate this with a beer

    ChEeRs!!

  • Do they recover any of those jets out of the water?

  • they take the seating, and let the aircraft sink! xD

  • that would suck going in to kai tak with a 25+ knot crosswind.

  • lol 1:18 get out the floaters boys!

  • 1:18 Damm i think we missed the runway

  • lol

  • The best airport ever!

  • 1:11. Landed on roof. lol

  • Ahh the good ol days of KaiTak.

  • Que me esperen por muchos años.

  • this is way to risky. why did they ever build this airport here? a train to HK is better.

  • wots so riscky abt wot the water the ocean next to it

  • wots so riscky abt wot the water the ocean next to it

  • ... Are you stupid?... This airport is now closed anyway and was one of the best airports in the world to land at and they built it in 1929 i think... due to some leader a long time ago and HOW THE FUCK, will you get a train from England to hong kong or US to hong kong... think about it :/

  • um, I was thinking that you can land somewhere in china where its more safer and then you take a train to hong kong. I dont think its safe if they need to fly so low over the buildings and then there are strong winds at the runway. its not a rocket science. and you can always take a ship, or go through russian or other asian railroads to reach china or hk. I'm going there with a ship, but return with trains. I dont like planes, they're so small, while on a cruise ship I could bungie jump.

  • The airport was there first before those buildings, it was a major centre point of hong kong and talking point.

  • Shipdocks, not everyone is an expert on everything, and sometimes people make comments which seem a bit stupid to you - but then I'm sure you've made the odd stupid comment in your life! Just ease off eh? Let's keep everything a bit friendlier...

  • england to hong kong is possible

    but not US to hk

  • US to HK not possible? United Airlines fly from O`Hare to Hong Kong Constantly in their 744`s

  • I love the end comment!! Fantastic compilaiton, with perfect song!

  • it may've just been me but i think all of the boeing 747's touched with engines number 1 and 4

  • this is the old airport of hong kong, very crazy location to build an airport

  • I remember the China Airline 747 crash landing into the sea I could see it from my home.

  • nice vidieo , nice choice of music 5*

  • really looks like they shoulda' built that runway about 20 more degrees clockwise.. oh well it's gone now..

  • Good ol' Kai Tak Airport. Only the better pilots who can handle it really love it. There used to be a joke about how the elites were trying to hook up some laundry being hung on residential rooftops on each descent :-)

  • Nice. I was the one trying to catch a ride lol

  • My opinion is that Kai Tek is the worse airport of all the airports I have been to!

  • wow, i was only 5 when i remember taking the ferry to go to the airport (i live in discovery bay)...so weird. but i dont remember being so close to the houses...

    haha

now its 25 minutes to the airport rather than 1 hour and a half..

  • Man, I miss that place ... way cooler than that Chek Lap Kok spaceport.

  • the new airport called chek lap kok that cost £20billion, was built on chek lap kok island by land reclamation.

  • anybody know why kai tak airport closed ?

  • do you still have to ask after this video??? it was way to dangerous to approach, and besides they have an new airport now, on an island, bout 15 miles south but i forgot the name of it...

  • thanx man,the new airport name is chek lap kok

  • The airport didnt close because it was dangerous. LoL. IT closed due to the fact that it couldnt expand due to the higher demand for a bigger airport. Alot of planes were diverted to other aiports. P1

  • because it lacks of availabe slots. And also due to the growing cargo coming into the HKG every month was growing, it had to leave the kowloon city and so they built a new airport, the CLK retaining Kai Tak's previous airport code VHHH. P2

  • But correct you are. The airport is surrounded by mountains about 240 degrees. Its like a ballet for the aircraft to follow the mount-ridge and finally set the gears on the runway. The aircrafts approached into Kowloon just over 230ft above the ground, you could as a passenger look into an aparment while flying by, see a television flicker. What a thrill !! P3

  • It's the coolest approaches I have ever tried. One of my last flights was about a month before they shut it down. I flew to Kai Tak from Manila onboard Philippine Airlines A3B4. Good memories. Those were the days ! P4

  • lol thanks for the briefing, afterall, all i am is a wannabe pro in my flight simulator... ive done the approaches there, but my pc was complaining over the traffic ;) so i reduced that a little :) ...

  • Oh FlightSim. I thought you were a real pilot. One of my last flights was on a jumpseat. . Now how cool is that.

  • is that last one real?

  • the singapore airline land is funny, lol!!!!^^

  • i used to live in shatin but was in kowloon city daliy. Those planes were insane and loud. im glad they closed the airport. Flowen out of kai tak about 20 times.

  • Did anyone die when that China Airlines 747 when into the water?

  • Can see my new building just left of the tip of the tail of the china flight in the water at 1:15 ;-)

  • My apartment window used to be so close to the flight path i could tell you if the pilot had a moustache or not, so sad when it closed.

But after it closed, the good news is i can fly my rc planes there now.....!

  • great slideshow videos.the images were superb

  • i loled at the last image

  • Pilots who regularly fly into Kai Tak hate it.

It is the home of the extreme crosswind shuffle.

There will be a serious mishap there sooner or later..and it will be a big one...large planes flying with full seats = 350 deaths.

There have already been plenty of "Incidents".

  • u stupid!! Kai Tak Airport has long been replaced by a new airport in lantau Island, 30km from Hong Kong city.

  • Kai Tak is closed man...

  • Kai Tak closed in 1998 !

    good vid!

  • Good choice of music with Bad Moon Rising.

  • stupid airport... my granma(i'm a child)was in a 747 in kai tak. she says "i'm gonna never do that again"

  • Not stupid airport, Great airport!

  • Music Cred? Still good movie, 747 landed on a building XD
