Every few months, no matter what is happening in my life, I return here to watch this video. I come to marvel at the virtuosity and sheer brilliance. I have been watching this video for over 4 years and still I am moved by his performance. Bravo!
wonderfull cover of barrios, but barrios recorded on 78 against the clock and despite a few fluffs and a crummy recording ,its passion and pace hasnt been surpassed
One of the most amazing performances ever, at the speed Barrios tried to play it himself, technically perfect, and still with so much feeling... There are no words for this...
Still the finest version of this piece I've ever heard in the last 20 years or so. Yamashita does some parts of it better, but as a whole, Fukuda's performance is superior.
I actually wrote this for saxophone and then went back in time and gave the sheet music to Bach who told me it sucked so I went forward a bit and gave it to this guy named Barrios. He told me it needed to be polyphonic instead of one note at a time and after some consideration, I agreed. I told him I wouldn't tell anyone in my time about it but I guess I lied. HEHE
Only Williams matches a performance of THIS ALTITUDE! For all those who say it's not good enough - I think you've never played classicl guitar before, otherwise you should know this piece is extremely exhausting for the left hand. I bet noone can match this video. Wonder why... :D
Youtube should allow user tagging and fix spellchecking using google's technology (it's been a while since google acquired them), I was search ing for "Fukuda Catedral" and couldn't find it due to the misspelling in the title.
For an equally (probably more) impressive performance see Denis Azabagic's more dramatic interpretation.
Am I wrong, or is this the only clip of the full La Catedral by anyone on YouTube. Sure it has it's flaws but I haven't seen anything that is played better; only cynical comments. Where are the brave posters that can put this version to rest? Are they too busy posting?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If I don't like the interpretation of the piece, this doesn't mean that I'm cynical. I tell my opinion and I don't care what other people (usually not musicians) think about it.
There are so many people, filled with admiration, but I don't like much the interpretation of the piece, not enough phrasing, the whole piece needs much more difference between forte and piano ( needs more dynamic nuances ), because it is a romantic piece. Romantic music has more dynamic nuances even from the music of the classical period. Also the first and the second parts are too fast I don't know why so many guitarists don't play it enough slow.
Usually, I just see comments like yours as just an opinion. However, I cannot see your point on this post. I challenge you to show me ANYONE who has this command of this exceptionally difficult piece and interprets it in such convincing fashion.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I think my point is very clear - the first and the second parts are too fast (they're slowlier). If you play a part faster than it is, this is not because of the difficulty, but because of the interpretation...
I wouldn't exactly call this easy though. In Canada it is level 8 RCM exam material. So may be you've done your ARCT teacher cert but still I wouldn't call this easy myself though even I can play all 3 movements without looking at any music sheets anymore... ;)
My teacher mentioned that to me couple years ago when I said I wanna learn the whole thing. But I guess you're right. I am not even close to level 8 yet but since I love this so much I just force myself to learn it.... just the notes so far.
Dumb asses like yourself always get me. La Catedral is one of the most complex compositions to play. It's the overal harmony of the piece and the difficulty to make it sound right and whole is what matters. THe fact that you can make sounds of the notes written on the sheet..maybe..means nothing. Go play Carcassi!
damn thats nice. i used to play this piece when i was in college and that beginnin arpegio part is a bitch to nail so that it sounds good and resonant with all of the mixed high notes/open strings combos. he did a beautiful job though. respect mi bredda.
I'm missing something here. The recording is a little bad. Takes away from what I should be appreciating. Look up Pepe Romero, he is a good player. And no offense, but Barrios is the real genius for composing the music, we are merely interpreters.
Barrios is one of the greatest guitar composers of all time. This Guy has nailed it! This is fantastic. He should be right up there with John Williams, C. Parkening, and Sharon Isbn. Wow! I have been playing classical guitar for over twenty years. This type of playing takes some of the most concentrated and dedicated practice.
i play this music....i´m from brazil and this chinese plays very well...it is a very dificult piece and he´s done a very good job....congrats, it is impossible to be completly calm playing this song.

If inspired, go with it! Play 8 hours a day. I wasted a gift. This has been told to me by experts, family (worse) and watching all you here. Sigh. Peace

they re dieatary suppliments you can get from any GNC store (most come in capsules). gelatin helps you grow stronger nails (and hair too apperantly). if you take them regularly, your nails won't break as much--at least mine didn't. it might actually help your tone since you re not messing with your nails that much and can strike strings with a lot more confidence.
