It's too bad it's not big in the UK. I think the british could have A LOT of wicked fun with the holiday (perhaps even more so than Americans if they gave it more of a chance) But maybe the brits are slightly too reserved for such silly things.
$2.5 billion dollars on halloween? waste of money in my opinion. Halloween has never been my favourite holiday. funny you should mention razor blades in the candy. a woman got arrested back in the 90s because they somehow tracked the candy back to her house. My guess would be they had her fingerprints on file. that costume is actually brilliant, the high heels i could live without.
Halloween is a pagan harvest day called Samhain Where everyone use to kill their cows for winter. It's also when the barrier between life and death is lifted and dead people came home to their families. They used to put food outside of their house to help them find their way .And because "fairies" use to be around scaring people, people use to wear disguises to trick them. Lol Aren't I just full of knowledge :P
@LiteratiMuffin All Hallows eve was introduced later on when Christians moved to Ireland and other Celtic areas as a way of suppressing Celtic/pagan tradition. Aspects of the modern Halloween holiday may come from the christian holiday. But the foundation and roots come from Samhain :) Just google it if you don't believer me ;)
Supposedly Great Britain had the whole door-to-door ask for food thing before America did, it started as a late medieval practice that took place on November 1, and Scotland started the whole dress as the dead thing and on the actual Halloween night starting in 1895. North America didn't start until 1911.

Halloween evolved from a Catholic holiday called All Hallows Eve, which occurs a day before All Saints Day.
