While the British stocked up on the latest weaponry, our soldiers started the war with 9 rounds a piece. While their military was made up of professional killers, ours were comprised of 13,14 year old kids, old men and on occasion a lady whos husband had fallen. In the winter Brits worry was what pub to drink at.Our men were worried about dysentary and if their rag covered bloody feet would allow the to walk the next day.Yet, they defeated the worlds greatest army. They make me proud to be American
People like John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Ben Franklin wanted to impliment a clause into the U.S. Declaration of Independence that outlawed slavery but they knew that they never could if they ever wanted the document to pass in the slave-owning Southern Colonies. It was and is a complicated issue because nobody really knows how the Founding Fathers really felt about slavery.
What we can learn from the illegal British oppression in North America is that a colonial power can never occupy a land whereby the peoples resist and do not want that unlawful occupation. Were the American Colonials on the right side of history? Since they were taxed without representation in Parliament, then yes, they were right to declare independence. The Founding Fathers didnt wish for confrontation with uncooperative England. They simply wanted rights which were repeatedly denied to them.
all of you anti american idiot can say what you want but the fact is at the time we had a bunch of untrained soldiers and we defeated the greatest army in the world that proves we are the greatest country ever
Americans were the first to throw off the shackles of British oppression and teach these impudent royalty worshipping imperialists a painful lesson in manners. : < )
@1969captainron No it was predominantly English soldiers. Americans fought on both sides during the war and many deserted the American camp at Valley Forge to jon up with the Brits.
If it wasn't for the British there would be no United States anyway, so all you americans out there that are saying British we beat you, if you're family is from american blood from the beggining, you have English blood, and you're saying that You beat yourself in a civil war. Anyway, why's everyone arguing if America or Britain is better, we're allies! We've fought together in both world wars and we're fighting together in Afghanistan/Iraq!
The American Revolution was Britain Vietnam, they like America during Vietnam were actually winning the war, until poor domestic and global relations which harmed the British economy, made them withdraw and lose the war. Like most wars, even today, its all about money and wealth.
The truth is America, speaking as an American, we only won this war because Britain gave up, the British public were totally against this war from the start, after all, many of the people fighting the British were relatives, like today. And finally Britain was actually winning the war, apart of a few battles lost until France, Spain, Holland and other powerful countries went to war against the British because the war was hurting their interests and that's the truth.
This account of the American Revolution is utter nonsense.
Punishing taxes? All but the Tea tax was removed before 1775. The taxes were imposed to pay for cost of defending the American states against the indians.
Boston was taken by the British for almost a year before they sailed away in the night. Bunker Hill was a British victory, although a costly victory.
George Washington...a former commander in the British Army.
@iceRich U.S.A RULES THE WORLD WERE THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD THE AMERCIAN DREAM!! AND ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE HAS NEVER BEEN TO THE U.S.A AND WISHES THEY WERE US
It was a funny old war that's for sure. The main British Army spent more than 2 years sitting in Philadelphia and New York getting friendly with the ladies, going to the theatre and drinking:) 15,000 of the British/Hessein troops decided to stay in America at the end of the war to raise families and start a business.
Bollucks. Damn that King George III. Damn those high taxes, after all the work we had done in America, pathetic decisions in taxation and representation, easily solved, led to the lose of British America, had we not lost America, we may have actually managed to Conquer the entire planet, after all, even after the loss of our precious Colonies, we still managed to Conquer a quarter of Planet Earth, dominated its Oceans, and controlled a third of the Human population.
@IceRich05 Arguable..Britain was broke after the seven years war an even if the taxation wasnt resisted the empire would have struggled to recover untill it took controll of India.
Nothing in history is forever so i think the empire was destined to fall apart one way or annother.
What's arguable? The Seven Years War was before the American Revolution? What are you talking about? The British Empire at its height was around 1901, well over 100 years after the loss of our American Colonies. So I don't know what you're talking about.
@IceRich05 Ok cant find your last comment so il reply on this one. =D
I was saying that it was arguable that Britain could have conquerd the entire planet, allthough you probably meant that semi seriously.
When i said that Britian was "broke" after the seven years war i meant that it was in severe deubt which was only ressolved after it controlled all of india. We could not have afforded to keep the colonies without high taxation.
That is such bullshit, we could have equally rasied taxes across the Empire and Britain itself so everyone could pay equal tax rate. Much of India was under our control during the American Revolution, and look at how powerful America is today, it is a hyper power, Britain too has been a Hyper Power in its time, few peoples infact have achieved Hyper Power Status, since it is the higher level than Super Power, The Roman Empire being another Hyper power.
If we had not lost America, done best by avoiding the American Revolution in the first place, that would no doubt have helped Britain greatly, and I absolutley think that with America not lost we could well have ruled the entire planet uniting it. Or at the very least had an excellent shot at it. How can anyone dispute that, just look at America today and its hyper power status.
The American Revolution was Britain Vietnam, they like America during Vietnam were actually winning the war, until poor domestic and global relations which harmed the British economy, made them withdraw and lose the war. Like most wars, even today, its all about money and wealth.
@BonnieSumo100 From the start the heavy taxation without represtation was in response to the seven years war debut, practically couldent afford to keep american colonies in the empire otherwise.
And like people have said, the Americans were settlers not a subjagated native community, they had the rights of Englishman. So the public wasnt happy with it.
@rangers11000 Well not really, the rights of englishmen is a term people use relateing to the magna carta, how subjects of an english monarch have a moral right to renounce the crown if the monarch invades their basic freedoms.
These were in place before britain was unified and the name didn't change. There was also many who wrongly viewed it as an english empire at the time because of power being centralised in london which could explain why.
@BonnieSumo100 You won this war because of France, plain and simple. Not to mention the loans secured to you by the dutch. Without those loans and without the Armies and fleet of the French, the revolution would have collapsed.
@BonnieSumo100, And we only surrendered because of the French re-inforcements, if they didn't have that, we might of won, 5,000 British troops 6,700 American troops and 11,000 French troops.
Go Britsh Grenadiers! Go Loyalists! Go Taxtation on tea, stamps, paper, etc. Check out my rendition of the British Grenadiers March on piano and harpsichord!
@PrunyOldToe They would've done much better if they used the "cover system" too. The Brits were still using the "stand out in open field and shoot" strategy while the colonists were taking cover and shooting. But the Founding Fathers knew England was already at war in Europe so hey it was the perfect time to revolt!
what about vietnam? the viet cong had a much better strategy. Maybe you could say the americans were idiots for not knowing how to fight guerilla warfare. But maybe calling a nation idiots makes you a twat
Tactically the US won all the battles, NVA an VC got their ass kicked. South Vietnam lost, because firstly their army sucked and second their people started attacking us (VC)
Only with propaganda, media, and loss of public support was it lost, not because of military.
exactly. The british gave up because they didnt want to fight the war (lack of public support being a major issue) its exactly the same thing. The revolution was a bigger deal in the us than in britain.
And you say how tactically the us won most fights in vietnam its the same with the revolution, only when the french intervened did you have a chance of winning
@4films15 the British in America at the time were against the excessive taxation by the British parliament and the fact they had no representation in Britain meant the seeds of revolution were sown. If you illtreat a section of a population your bound to stir up a struggle for equality.
@4films15 Not all were, many were loyal to the crown. The leader of the loyalist colonists was Benjamin Franklin's own brother. It was the Stamp Act and the Boston massacre that set many Americans against the crown. The Tea Tax was just one of half a dozen taxes imposed, all but one of which were withdrawn because hardly anybody paid them.
The Boston Tea Party took place because East India tea sitting in warehouses in India had no market, so the ships were told to sail for Boston but were exempt from the tax. It was the local Bostonians who insisted that the tax be paid.
This is an excellent display of American revolutionary battles. However I noticed they didn't mention original control of Florida as British then after the treaty in Paris it was sold to the Spanish. They didn't mention Franklin/Jay/Adams as being the negotiators of the treaty either. Hootie Hoo!
I love this part of history, i am french history student and all the conflict between france and england passionate me. 1000 years of war , amazing :)
But history is strange. Louis XVI was in love for the english culture, 20% of in personnal library was composed by british autors, and he was fluent in english. incredible for a french king!
so the war declaration was a surprise. maybe a revange for the British victory in french canada.
Louis XVI was more fluent in English than many English kings. George 1 never got around to learning english. Victoria spoke German to Albert by choice.
George III was an idiot, as was Lord George Germain, Secretary of State for America during the revolution, who should never had any sort of power after what he did at the Battle of Minden. But I think the real, hidden reason for the Americans revolting was the land issue, there were many ambitious colonials who wanted to expand against the Crown's wishes. Pity for the Native Americans that they won. But good for the British Empire in the long run. I doubt The 13 colonies would beat Nazi Germany.
But mostly the french they attacked our navy well we were owning the americans and we still kicked there french kissing asses after they attacked our navy its a joke really they would of attacked us for any reason there basically like the japs bombing palharber think thats how you spell it well whos cares.
British fleet withdrew to save the sugar plantations in the West Indies at the time were the richest in the world. France envied them. Interesting to know that half the garrison that took the British troops at Bulker Hill surrender was French Troops, not colonial irregulars. If the British fleet had have sailed to their aid.? London decided to re-inforce the West Indies from the tiny standing British Army instead of the American Colonies. Love the English speaking people love this stuff....
The British focused on Australia as its new colony - America needed the new area land aquired from France in the 1750- 60s French anf Indian war. King George didn't want Americans to settle the old American French / Indian area it was aquired from that conflict - so they rebelled.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@dizzo95 the americans rebelled cuz they wer a bunch of greedy assholes who didnt wana pay taxes to the country who created them... it would be the equilivilant of the hawaiian islands today, gettin a bunch of russian made rifles and shooting the americans in the name of freedom and liberty... such bullshit... america was founded on theft, slavery and genocide.... and somehow they have become the police of the world
@101andrewj As a Canadian loyalist once wrote : It was better to live with one tyrant 1000 miles away than to live with 1000 tyrants 1 mile away - I still wouldn't give up my US Constitution or Bill of Rights
@dizzo95 u already have... the american government has many differnt loopholes in there law that would allow them to wave your rights if they come up with the right reason.... america will continue to use sucurity scares to force people to give up there rights... the american government is a joke and one of the worst problems in the world right now.... i dont know how a country founded on slavery, theft and genocide became the world police
@dizzo95 fuck the bill of rights. "all are equal" supposedly but the Yanks only allowed native Americans to be full US citizens in 1922. that is a disgrace. African Americans slaves were only freed in 1865. they only gained civil rights in 1965. that is disgusting from a country that call's itself the most free nation in the world
@cloughers The problem with your argument that "slavery was not abolished in the U.S. until 1865" is this. Who was it that introduced slavery to the American Colonies into what would later become the United States. It was the BRITISH in the 17th century who shipped the slaves from Africa to North America. In essence, the UK is to be balemd entirely on racial segregation, the U.S. Civil War, and the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s/1960s. I'm sure you would deny it though since youre British.
@TortoiseWayfarers actually the Portuguese started the slave trade but all European colonies did it, but it was Britain who abolished the slave trade in 1807 and then the slavery abolition act in 1833. we even intercepted ships that transported slaves. ever heard of William Wilberforce. it was the yanks who invented the jim crow laws, not the brits.
@cloughers Well at least we are in agreement that slavery is a European institution. I want you to consider something though. The 18th and early 19th century, the Antebellum Period in the USA, was a different time when people of African descent were not seen as humans. They were seen as property. Many of the Founding Fathers were slave owners, but when writing the Constitution in 1787, they assumed slavery would eventually die out, which it didnt. Hence, a violent civil war was fought 1861-1865.
@TortoiseWayfarers if your a white dude, then don't be looking down on Europe since u would be of European decent. thats presuming you are white. However, many US leaders did not go against slavery. they may have had personal objections but made no attempt to stop it. even Lincoln would of tolerated slavery in the south if the union wasn't broken. however he only freed the slaves when he found it to be politically convenient .
@cloughers They wanted to but they couldn't. Outlawing slavery and writing it into the Constitutition wouldn't have ever passed a vote in the Southern Colonies/States. Plantation owners in the South used the stance that a Federal banning of slavery violated the States rights even though in reality, what they really feared was that by banning slavery, it would end their profits in the cash crop of cotton.
@TortoiseWayfarers well that says alot about a united country doesn't it. The people declared independence against effectively their own people (the British) and hence are traitors. I find it ironic that yanks are supposed to be anti-colonial but yet Hawaii, an independent nation it once was, the US annexed it and made it part of the USA without the consent of the natives. or the fact that you annexed the whole of the west.
@cloughers Like I said, you have to consider that it was a different time period. Only white, Christian people of European descent were seen as humans. Africans were property. Hawaii is a complicated. story. But Hawaii was not immediately annexed. After the overthrow of the monarchy, a provisional government run by native Hawaiians filled that power vacumn. It took a couple of years until the U.S. annexed Hawaii as a territory in the late 1890s. Statehood was not achieved until 1959.
@TortoiseWayfarers however this attempt to extend influence didn't stop there, the war in Vietnam was all about the US trying to increase it's influence at the expense of the Vietnamese people who all they ever wanted was an independent unified free country of their own country.
@cloughers I never claimed that the U.S. did not have imperial ambitions. Here is the difference between the the British Empire and the USA. Up until 1945, the UK was never willing to give its colonies around the world self-determination of becoming independent. The U.S. has always freely allowed its overseas colonies and territories their self-determination. Cuba in 1902, the Philippines in 1946, Marshall Islands in 1986, and Palau in 1994. Britain... that is another story as you proved in 1776
@TortoiseWayfarers Britain was a country that became great because it had a union of people's in harmony working together. it is true, colonialism/self determination was only looked at in 1945 but just like the UK itself we felt that different cultures could thrive together equally under one banner.
Uncle Joe? Is that some Americanism that I am not familiar with? To my knowledge Britain is John Bull, and America is Uncle Sam. But if you hadn't of helped us you would have had to face a Nazi Europe from the East and the Japanese Empire from the West... do you really think you could have done that without the aid of the British Empire?
Oh right that clears things up then, I'm not familiar with that. Still, the British Empire, Russian Army and USA Economy was all important in the allied victory.
I'd say the War of 1812 was either a draw or a decisive British victory really. Our aim was not to conquer America, but to stop her from supplying France (the enemy). Which we succeded in doing, we also captured Washington and burnt the Whitehouse down and we captured thousands of your slaves and later sold them back to you. You never beat us, we simply stopped once we beat France. Interestingly though, this war united the USA and the UK and relations have been good ever since.
Whoa whats with all the brits in here? You guys got slaughtered when you were had the strongest army in the world even if the french DID help us if you guys were SO fierce then you couldve taken on both right? we pwned you get over it :]
Not just the French, but the Spanish, the Dutch and to some extent the Russians. This left Britian without an ally in Europe, so she had to leave the majority of her army there to protect herself. Yes we do have the strongest army in the world, but we also have one of the smallest. I wouldn't call our defeat a slaughter, since even with all the odds against us it took 7 years and a world war to defeat us. This war was a tragic english civil war, and it was british incompetence that made it!
I wouldn't say that's true, our defeat at Saratoga by the Continental army (that sounds so awesome) was motivation for France (who's government was wrecked by war) to join in when they believed this was a battle Britain really could lose. All the other Bourbon powers joined in too. What's ironic is after rejecting Congress' offer for peace after the battle we offered to secced everything to America except independence. By this point though a new nation was born and the tide was against us.
And I'm proud of it. You're proud of the USA, and that's just fine. I never said you shouldn't be. I just said that my country rocks. And it does. End of story.
@canadarox14 im not proud of the usa,im british you douche, you ddont have a country, your country is full of british men that were traitors and did independence thats your country your originaly from The great british empire faggot. just like americans australians south africans and all the crap.Got it douche?
Whoa, somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I'm sorry you have so little respect for your country, but I have a lot of respect for mine. Canadian sovereignty was not the work of traitors, but was encouraged by the British government because trying to defend colonies in North America was too costly. It was all done democratically and with full approval from England. Now, if you don't mind, I'm getting tired of replying to your pointless accusations. Bug someone else. Thanks.
@pieman97405 and who would give u weapons? the indians that had only knifes? lol stupid.viva britain the god of america and the creator of america.we are your god we are superior
you wouldn't have won we were winning most of the battles in the later part of the war with a string of victories if the french didn't hep then they wouldn't have stopped us escaping by sea and also the spanish wouldn't have joined so we could have focused all our man power on the war
The place still under British rule. I would say that is more an English victory than Canada. If it was a true Canadian victory then you would have gotten the queen of your money long ago.
You know what bothers me. The US and France should be the best of friends in the world. We saved each others ass time and time again and yet we still don't get along.
You mean the farm lands? The fields and farm houses that can easily be rebuilt or grown? You would rather be under Nazi occupation than have a farm blown up? Are you retarded?
.....liberating France really didnt do much to end the war, even if the allies hadnt pushed Normandy Russians would have toppled Berlin and France would have been surrendered, so you guys really only ended the war a few months earlier, also Candians did better then Americans at Normandy :D
At Normandy Canada landed only 2 armies where the US landed 7. You did nothing but fill up reserves or supply lines. You were American and British Cannon fodder. Tell me some famous battles were the Canadians alone crushed the Nazis? Had the germans never split their forces to the west the Germans would have had the manpower needed to stop the Soviets in the East. Btw don't call them Russians they were Soviets at the time. Your nations is a joke and you are delusional.
You know what. You claim that Canada did better at Normandy than the US, well how? Show me some proof of this. Show me that you actually know something about history and are not just a blithering idiot.
Something from Wiki is proof of nothing. Did you come to think that maybe they advanced further inland because they were in the far less defended areas? From what I understand 3/4ths of Canadas military never left North America. Your military contribution was nothing compared to the United States.
....thats y i also brought in CBC cause wiki can sometimes be false, also that 3/4ths thing is bogus, lastly unlike America we had been fighting the war since it started, u only joined after they bombed Pearl Harbor. Canada fought to help its allies, America fought to help it self, same thing happened in WW1
That is false about the Americans not fighting in the war in Europe till Pearl harbor. Ever heard of the Eagle Squadron? Plenty of Americans did fighting in ww2 before December 7th. Besides England snaps it's finger and Canada falls in line ;) You still had the Union Jack on your flag. You seem to think Normandy invasion lasted one day, it went from june to july if Canada got bogged down early then you contributed very little in the over all.
yeah but their contribution was pretty minuscule, but i guess your right. Also England and Canada are pretty tight so we back each other up. Lastly of course our contribution was very little, we have a tiny army as oppose to Americas large army, im just saying pound for pound we are superior
Lol speaking of Wiki, as silly as it is, you frogot to add this quote "though counter-attacks by elements of two German armoured divisions would stop any further movement for several weeks."
Read some detailed books about the Normandy battles, the brits and canadians went on the offensive to the east and drew all the panzer divisions into punishing battles, til eventually the yanks in the west could steamroll through the unreinforced infantry divisions and encircle the german army at falaise. All the allies did their part, but the canadians took some hard knocks to make it easier for patton to kick ass.
The map shown is inaccurate in several ways. It shows definitive western borders of several of the 13 colonies, which, in fact, did not exist. In many instance, the western boundaries simply extended westward under the colonies' royal charters. Diito, Georgia's southern boundaries. What is shown are tboundaries of the modern states. Moreover, Vermont did not exist as a legal entity in 1775.
united states social security order 1997 - at her majesty's pleasure agreed at buckingham palace under crown copyright subject to parliamentary law. Hmmmmm..........interesting reading.
the americans turned into corrupt bastards who are the most hated peopel of the world. they're twin towers can go fuck themselves they lost to third world vietneese in the 60s. fatties lol
we are most hated? so? how does that effect us? why should we care?
Yea we lost the twin towers, we have 300,000 more people.
We lost veitnam? so your saying Americans winning 99% of all battles and had a 10:1 killing ration in veitnam and we lost? how? Could Britain have won in vietnam with your small 20 man army?
and fatties? you can only say hat if All americans are fat. But only 45% are. Now go brush your teeth and drive your 1 cylender car around poor British boy.
yea, we have 300,000,000 people. Of cource we are going to have a bigger country with more food and propganda. We have all this money and nothing for it to go to. But still 65% of Americans ARENT fat. And those are the guys who run the country. The other 45% just sits at home and pays taxes. And if they don't..they go to jail.

When i said that Britian was "broke" after the seven years war i meant that it was in severe deubt which was only ressolved after it controlled all of india. We could not have afforded to keep the colonies without high taxation.
EbsNhexz 1 year ago
That is such bullshit, we could have equally rasied taxes across the Empire and Britain itself so everyone could pay equal tax rate. Much of India was under our control during the American Revolution, and look at how powerful America is today, it is a hyper power, Britain too has been a Hyper Power in its time, few peoples infact have achieved Hyper Power Status, since it is the higher level than Super Power, The Roman Empire being another Hyper power.
IceRich05 1 year ago
If we had not lost America, done best by avoiding the American Revolution in the first place, that would no doubt have helped Britain greatly, and I absolutley think that with America not lost we could well have ruled the entire planet uniting it. Or at the very least had an excellent shot at it. How can anyone dispute that, just look at America today and its hyper power status.

The American Revolution was Britain Vietnam, they like America during Vietnam were actually winning the war, until poor domestic and global relations which harmed the British economy, made them withdraw and lose the war. Like most wars, even today, its all about money and wealth.
BonnieSumo100 2 years ago 3
@BonnieSumo100 From the start the heavy taxation without represtation was in response to the seven years war debut, practically couldent afford to keep american colonies in the empire otherwise.
And like people have said, the Americans were settlers not a subjagated native community, they had the rights of Englishman. So the public wasnt happy with it.
EbsNhexz 2 years ago
@EbsNhexz
dont you mean britishman you idiot
rangers11000 1 year ago
@rangers11000 Well not really, the rights of englishmen is a term people use relateing to the magna carta, how subjects of an english monarch have a moral right to renounce the crown if the monarch invades their basic freedoms.
These were in place before britain was unified and the name didn't change. There was also many who wrongly viewed it as an english empire at the time because of power being centralised in london which could explain why.
EbsNhexz 1 year ago
The truth is America, speaking as an American, we only won this war because Britain gave up, the British public were totally against this war from the start, after all, many of the people fighting the British were relatives, like today. And finally Britain was actually winning the war, apart of a few battles lost until France, Spain, Holland and other powerful countries went to war against the British because the war was hurting their interests and that's the truth.
BonnieSumo100 2 years ago 31
@BonnieSumo100 You won this war because of France, plain and simple. Not to mention the loans secured to you by the dutch. Without those loans and without the Armies and fleet of the French, the revolution would have collapsed.
AegeanKing 1 year ago
@BonnieSumo100, And we only surrendered because of the French re-inforcements, if they didn't have that, we might of won, 5,000 British troops 6,700 American troops and 11,000 French troops.

Clearly you know nothing about Vietnam.
Tactically the US won all the battles, NVA an VC got their ass kicked. South Vietnam lost, because firstly their army sucked and second their people started attacking us (VC)
Only with propaganda, media, and loss of public support was it lost, not because of military.
blackrob2002 2 years ago
exactly. The british gave up because they didnt want to fight the war (lack of public support being a major issue) its exactly the same thing. The revolution was a bigger deal in the us than in britain.
And you say how tactically the us won most fights in vietnam its the same with the revolution, only when the french intervened did you have a chance of winning

why was america so against britain ruling considering great britain founded america and most of there population are of british decent
4films15 2 years ago
@4films15 the British in America at the time were against the excessive taxation by the British parliament and the fact they had no representation in Britain meant the seeds of revolution were sown. If you illtreat a section of a population your bound to stir up a struggle for equality.
arnotkaling 2 years ago
@4films15 Not all were, many were loyal to the crown. The leader of the loyalist colonists was Benjamin Franklin's own brother. It was the Stamp Act and the Boston massacre that set many Americans against the crown. The Tea Tax was just one of half a dozen taxes imposed, all but one of which were withdrawn because hardly anybody paid them.
stevo728822 1 year ago
@stevo728822
The Boston Tea Party took place because East India tea sitting in warehouses in India had no market, so the ships were told to sail for Boston but were exempt from the tax. It was the local Bostonians who insisted that the tax be paid.

MrOrizon 2 years ago 2
Louis XVI was more fluent in English than many English kings. George 1 never got around to learning english. Victoria spoke German to Albert by choice.
DonMeaker 2 years ago
George III was an idiot, as was Lord George Germain, Secretary of State for America during the revolution, who should never had any sort of power after what he did at the Battle of Minden. But I think the real, hidden reason for the Americans revolting was the land issue, there were many ambitious colonials who wanted to expand against the Crown's wishes. Pity for the Native Americans that they won. But good for the British Empire in the long run. I doubt The 13 colonies would beat Nazi Germany.

101andrewj 1 year ago
@dizzo95 Bill of rights, takes alot of idea's from the Magna Carta which was put together my english barons, US has Alot in common with Britain.
ckflange 1 year ago
@dizzo95 fuck the bill of rights. "all are equal" supposedly but the Yanks only allowed native Americans to be full US citizens in 1922. that is a disgrace. African Americans slaves were only freed in 1865. they only gained civil rights in 1965. that is disgusting from a country that call's itself the most free nation in the world
cloughers 1 year ago
@cloughers The problem with your argument that "slavery was not abolished in the U.S. until 1865" is this. Who was it that introduced slavery to the American Colonies into what would later become the United States. It was the BRITISH in the 17th century who shipped the slaves from Africa to North America. In essence, the UK is to be balemd entirely on racial segregation, the U.S. Civil War, and the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s/1960s. I'm sure you would deny it though since youre British.
TortoiseWayfarers 1 year ago
@TortoiseWayfarers actually the Portuguese started the slave trade but all European colonies did it, but it was Britain who abolished the slave trade in 1807 and then the slavery abolition act in 1833. we even intercepted ships that transported slaves. ever heard of William Wilberforce. it was the yanks who invented the jim crow laws, not the brits.
cloughers 1 year ago
@cloughers Well at least we are in agreement that slavery is a European institution. I want you to consider something though. The 18th and early 19th century, the Antebellum Period in the USA, was a different time when people of African descent were not seen as humans. They were seen as property. Many of the Founding Fathers were slave owners, but when writing the Constitution in 1787, they assumed slavery would eventually die out, which it didnt. Hence, a violent civil war was fought 1861-1865.
TortoiseWayfarers 1 year ago
@TortoiseWayfarers if your a white dude, then don't be looking down on Europe since u would be of European decent. thats presuming you are white. However, many US leaders did not go against slavery. they may have had personal objections but made no attempt to stop it. even Lincoln would of tolerated slavery in the south if the union wasn't broken. however he only freed the slaves when he found it to be politically convenient .
cloughers 1 year ago
@cloughers They wanted to but they couldn't. Outlawing slavery and writing it into the Constitutition wouldn't have ever passed a vote in the Southern Colonies/States. Plantation owners in the South used the stance that a Federal banning of slavery violated the States rights even though in reality, what they really feared was that by banning slavery, it would end their profits in the cash crop of cotton.
TortoiseWayfarers 1 year ago
@TortoiseWayfarers well that says alot about a united country doesn't it. The people declared independence against effectively their own people (the British) and hence are traitors. I find it ironic that yanks are supposed to be anti-colonial but yet Hawaii, an independent nation it once was, the US annexed it and made it part of the USA without the consent of the natives. or the fact that you annexed the whole of the west.
cloughers 1 year ago
@cloughers Like I said, you have to consider that it was a different time period. Only white, Christian people of European descent were seen as humans. Africans were property. Hawaii is a complicated. story. But Hawaii was not immediately annexed. After the overthrow of the monarchy, a provisional government run by native Hawaiians filled that power vacumn. It took a couple of years until the U.S. annexed Hawaii as a territory in the late 1890s. Statehood was not achieved until 1959.
TortoiseWayfarers 1 year ago
@TortoiseWayfarers however this attempt to extend influence didn't stop there, the war in Vietnam was all about the US trying to increase it's influence at the expense of the Vietnamese people who all they ever wanted was an independent unified free country of their own country.
cloughers 1 year ago
@cloughers I never claimed that the U.S. did not have imperial ambitions. Here is the difference between the the British Empire and the USA. Up until 1945, the UK was never willing to give its colonies around the world self-determination of becoming independent. The U.S. has always freely allowed its overseas colonies and territories their self-determination. Cuba in 1902, the Philippines in 1946, Marshall Islands in 1986, and Palau in 1994. Britain... that is another story as you proved in 1776
TortoiseWayfarers 1 year ago
@TortoiseWayfarers Britain was a country that became great because it had a union of people's in harmony working together. it is true, colonialism/self determination was only looked at in 1945 but just like the UK itself we felt that different cultures could thrive together equally under one banner.

101Hamish 2 years ago
I'd say the War of 1812 was either a draw or a decisive British victory really. Our aim was not to conquer America, but to stop her from supplying France (the enemy). Which we succeded in doing, we also captured Washington and burnt the Whitehouse down and we captured thousands of your slaves and later sold them back to you. You never beat us, we simply stopped once we beat France. Interestingly though, this war united the USA and the UK and relations have been good ever since.
Compy01 2 years ago

101Hamish 2 years ago
Not just the French, but the Spanish, the Dutch and to some extent the Russians. This left Britian without an ally in Europe, so she had to leave the majority of her army there to protect herself. Yes we do have the strongest army in the world, but we also have one of the smallest. I wouldn't call our defeat a slaughter, since even with all the odds against us it took 7 years and a world war to defeat us. This war was a tragic english civil war, and it was british incompetence that made it!
Compy01 2 years ago
Fucking french you americans were getting raped god dam french they just get in the way we raped napolean adleast :).
GameCenter2009 2 years ago
I wouldn't say that's true, our defeat at Saratoga by the Continental army (that sounds so awesome) was motivation for France (who's government was wrecked by war) to join in when they believed this was a battle Britain really could lose. All the other Bourbon powers joined in too. What's ironic is after rejecting Congress' offer for peace after the battle we offered to secced everything to America except independence. By this point though a new nation was born and the tide was against us.

At Normandy Canada landed only 2 armies where the US landed 7. You did nothing but fill up reserves or supply lines. You were American and British Cannon fodder. By the end of D-Day the 3rd Canadian Division had penetrated farther into France than any other Allied force.. thats from wiki.
By nightfall of June 6, the Canadian troops had advanced farther inland than any other Allied force. CBC theres your proof
Deathwing200 2 years ago
Something from Wiki is proof of nothing. Did you come to think that maybe they advanced further inland because they were in the far less defended areas? From what I understand 3/4ths of Canadas military never left North America. Your military contribution was nothing compared to the United States.
Gneisenau 2 years ago 2
....thats y i also brought in CBC cause wiki can sometimes be false, also that 3/4ths thing is bogus, lastly unlike America we had been fighting the war since it started, u only joined after they bombed Pearl Harbor. Canada fought to help its allies, America fought to help it self, same thing happened in WW1
Deathwing200 2 years ago
That is false about the Americans not fighting in the war in Europe till Pearl harbor. Ever heard of the Eagle Squadron? Plenty of Americans did fighting in ww2 before December 7th. Besides England snaps it's finger and Canada falls in line ;) You still had the Union Jack on your flag. You seem to think Normandy invasion lasted one day, it went from june to july if Canada got bogged down early then you contributed very little in the over all.
Gneisenau 2 years ago
yeah but their contribution was pretty minuscule, but i guess your right. Also England and Canada are pretty tight so we back each other up. Lastly of course our contribution was very little, we have a tiny army as oppose to Americas large army, im just saying pound for pound we are superior
Deathwing200 2 years ago
You have a lot of history to learn my friend. Peace be with you.

Deathwing200 2 years ago
