  • My God this is powerful!!

    allen

  • @carvetop01 Wow, I guess there are a few libertarians out there who have a heart after all. (wink wink)

  • Very well done. I've been there. Couldn't save her. You capture the desperation so well.

    pax,

    ron

  • @RonIrelandmusic Thanks taking the time to visit this Ron. If you have a particular piece of yours you'd like me to listen to let me know.

  • your words hit deep into my inner being, my core, the love lost of one that is loved due to addictions, the sorrow, the deep forboding aloneless that spills over and engulfs everything around the infected, such sorrow. such sorrow. . it would be wrong of me to say anything more than what I already have.

  • @AcousticPhases I'm glad it connected so strongly. Writing it was cathartic for me. Got it out front in a tangible form so I could deal with it. Thanks for giving it the time.

  • Very deep & touching..is it uncool to say it rocked under the circumstances??? From: Rockin Robin Rox..nice harpin too!

  • @4fulsealteam Yea... "rocked" is good. Thanks for the visit and kind words.

  • A lot a cool things happening here. Aside from a great song and performance. The harmonica is a nice touch (it weeps and whimpers). The video looks real good. Nice work. Did you edit it? Love it.

  • @mfambro Thanks Miche. Yep, I did the audio recording and video editing. I love your multi camera stuff on your videos. Nicely edited and produced.

  • A great original Lance, very sad but great song,I'm sure my exwife is going down this road.

  • Sorry to hear that... I guess we all have some connection to tragic people if we live long enough. Thanks for visiting so many of my vids Davie.

  • No probs Lance, I must make an effort to view more of your vids, cheers buddy!

  • Lance my dear friend,I am listening,I hear you too.currently have a friend who is dripping away as opposed to slipping away, nothing can be done,he just aint' not listening,as there are none as deaf as them that have no desire to hear, and few as blind as an alcoholic,as they are the last to see for they are too busy hitting the bottle to see the floor coming. Thanks for your help on the share,I adore you for that. David.Nice to meet another genuine guy occasionally LOL (8=))

  • Thanks for the thoughtful, heartfelt comment David. Much appreciated.

  • ***** VERY GOOD LANCE *****

  • Many thanks.

  • Excellent song, lyrics and performance Lance! We all know someone like this. They stretch the ying, and then the yang bites you back. Everyone can see it, excpept them. Great song Sir!

  • Thanks Ed. I guess we all have experience in this way. Glad it connected with you.

  • the "legal" drug causes more death, and grief, and crime, and injury,...I've lost 3 directly, (and a horrible death it is) and know others who fight an ongoing battle...........this is a wonderful original,..very touching, and real. you are a true word/song/smith

    Laurie

  • Thank you Laurie - We laugh, we dance and sing, but I don't have to tell you about the other side to that coin. Thanks for the comment.

  • i think this is one of your best songs ..and for sure the deepest one.good luck!

  • Been a while since anyone has taken a look at this one. Thanks. Yes, this is a very personal song of sadness. Glad yu picked up on it.

  • "Everything we had is broken, gone without a trace, now I can't bear to see you with that look upon your face"....sad to say that I can relate to this song in so many ways... Good writing though!

  • Sorry if it was a bit painful for you.. It was for me as well. Songwriting gets it out front though.. where one can deal with it. Thanks for the heartfelt comment.

  • Very deep felt song. 5 Stars...

  • Thanks my friend. :o)

  • Just stopped in to see Mark's channel because he has just the BEST faves and there you were in there.

As you already know, I'm a huge fan - - if distance wasn't an issue and if you were a 'house' band ... I'd be a hardcore groupie.

But since if's just ain't ... let me just compliment yet another of your bluesy crafty tunes.

[leaves ...snapping fingers ... bebopping head]

  • Thanks for seeking this out Carol and being so supportive. You're a peach. :o)

  • Hat to mention again Lance...This song is absolutely without a doubt one of the best originals I've heard in quite sometime. Yes kindred spirits flock together!

  • You have a way with a lyric Mark and as a fellow songwriter another very important trait in my book and that is that when you perform your songs you can understand the words. I don't see the point in putting one's poetry together and then stylizing the delivery so much that that same poetry gets lost. Thanks for sharing and the in depth comments.

  • I agree my friend our paths and styles are very similar, I'd love to jam with you guys. Where you located? Don't give up on your friend!!!! You might be the only hope he has, you might be the only hope others have! Great stuff mate. It's an honor for you to consider my music in the same vein as your great music. Look forward to sharing with you! Mark

  • Very moving, lovely song. What a talent.

  • Thanks so much :o)

  • A high point on the road of life.

  • can totally relate..really like your style

  • Yes, this is a heartbreaker but has to be said. I appreciate your comment. Thanks.

  • Really good song. Loved the way you played and sang it, too. Five stars and favourited.

  • Thanks so much. It is one of those that is truly heart felt. Glad you liked it.

  • Powerful song and video, Lance! Just beautifully done! Thanks so much for sending...I was touched. I have been on both sides of this fence...so I know of what you speak.

5stars, FAVED, and put this in my Best Acoustic Guitarists Playlist. This should be FEATURED!

    Cheers,

    Joy

  • Thanks Joy. I think tapping an experience that is common to many different people is the mark of a good song writer. We are the chroniclers of our age. It is both a joy and a responsibility. You have a great show. Keep up the good work. Be Happy - Fear Nothing.

  • This song is so true to life!

We lose people around us to

    substances that steal them from

us with eyes wide opened. It is

so very sad. In despair and desolate,

they remain in our sights but lost.

My heart aches. Thanks for sharing.

    Your friend - Lance

  • Lance, I have to tell you that this song made me tear up. This is always a difficult thing to watch someone you care about go through especially when we know of a persons Great potential going to waste. I guess I have to say thanks for making me cry. -Charlie

  • You're in good company Charlie. It looks like I'm making a lot of people cry. Glad it's for the right reasons. Many people just cry automatically when they have to listen to my music 'o) I'm just going to have to start practicing more. Thanks for the comment. I'm really glad you liked it.

  • I've definitely faced this same problem, and I can't think of a better way to sum it up than you have.

  • We do what we can and move forward. Thanks for listening Keith. Stay in touch.

  • Uncle Lance,

Fade Away is now one of my favorites. You did an excellent job with the video fades. Fade Away hits a cord in my heart. This song gives me a sense of peace due to the depth of understanding in it. It applies to situations beyond addiction. I wish for you a blessed and peaceful Thanksgiving.

  • Dear Niece Shirley - Thanks so much. Yes, we all know what this is about in one degree or another. I hope yours and Don's Thanksgiving was wonderful. Love - Lance

  • Dear Uncle Lance,

Thanksgiving was good, thank you. It has been a long while since a song gripped my soul like this one does. You and Brad hit this piece dead on. Congratulations to both of you. Love, Shirl

  • A very good tune Lance, and those lyrics that really mean something, not a situation you'd wish to be in but I bet a lot of people are. Good that you pinpoint these problems Lance because too much times we only hear the bright side of the game.I like lyrics in which people put down their real thoughts, good comping on the guitar, greets Victor.

  • Thank you Victor. I'm glad it connects with so many people. I wanted to tell you that today while I was working on putting food on the table I just let your jazz playlist play from beginning to end. Oh man, it is so, so fine. I'm going to write you a private note and pick your brain a bit. Thanks for the comment. Always here for you when it comes to lyrical content. - Lance.

  • Real nice song man. The harmonica licks really give it a haunting edge. I also liked your strumming technique. I'll remember this one.

  • Thanks Paddy. Brad always plays just enough. Not too much. I have always felt that art is an expression - not a demonstration. That's why I like playing with Brad.

  • Great song. I grew up around drugs and alcohol, like I'm sure a lot of others have, and saw many friends and family members mess up thier lifes. I survived that time and I thank God for it! Now I try my best to help those who are struggling today. It's not easy but it's worth the effort. I will definitely keep your friend in my prayers.

Thank you for touching on this subject,

    Steve

  • Thanks for your thoughtful response Steve. All the best to you. Keep up the good work both in music and life.

  • Well Lance, Just stricktly Deep soulful heartfelt blues!! My respect to your awsome harmonica player, and to you too of course! Love the video editing, the freeze frames and fade outs, and the four tile painting fit perfectly! Beautiful man!! Natural 5 and fav!

  • Thanks Jerry. By the way, that painting you're using as wallpaper? I put it in a show and it won a hundred bucks. Taking that money and spendin' it on a good time with Debra. 26th anniversary next Wednesday. We gonna party!!!

  • Oh maiiin thats COOL! Money and you get to keep the WORK! Prizes are always best! Happy anniversary! Hi To the Lovely Debra from the redneck overseas!

  • Art is what we hope for and Art is what we need.

Art reminds us of our Glory and our degradation, too. Art calls to us to Rise above our darkness and step into the Light. Without Art we would all be Monsters and Childhood would surely die.

Thank You, Archtop, for sharing another Artistic work with us.

  • David - What an eloquent statement. Is it yours or from someone else? Regardless, it nails it doesn't it. Maintaining our humanity is a full-time job. It's all about staying awake. We fall asleep so easily. Thanks for your great comment.

    Lance

  • Lance - the words are my own. I believe that Art is what makes us Human. Other creatures communicate and build and even use tools and wage war, but only Man makes Art. Without Artists, I fear Truth would "Fade Away".

  • Really Nice...!!! I can relate to it in some ways..!! Keep posting!!

    RockOn!

    Nishant

  • Thanks Nishant - Hey I like the looper stuff you're doing. Keep it up. Best wishes.

  • Some of the worst drugs are legal, tobacco, alchohol, and perscription, and we know who coins it from these! The cost of status quo is greater than well planned, thoughtful solutions! Thank You Lance...Reg

  • You bet Reg. There are so many things that could be treated with common sense but we declare war on them instead. Once war is declared people get invested in the money they are making out of it and there is no reasoned solution after that. Follow the money path my friend... it explains many things. Thanks for the thoughtful post.

  • The real tragedy are the the people, locked into this world of confusion, trampled underfoot, incarcerated, for their illness! The subculture "created" by our misguided policies, and Lance as you said, the system, that really profits from the misfortune of others, and holds no vested interest in solutions...Reg

  • We've got to figure out a way to make kindness and compassion profitable..... Oh well, hey, it's a beautiful world none-the-less. Thanks TC.

  • Lance this is astounding, rarely have I been moved by a song, as much as this song moves me, honestly! We all have that friend, many have that "friend" within us! Collectively,we must change our approach to the awful scourge that is addiction, and find the right balance of treatments education and cures, and stop exacerbating the problem with filling prisons, phoney "wars", and antiquated thinking and laws! Continued...

  • wow right to my favs wow great song wow im just in awe man great great tune wow lance wow!!!!!!!

    wow

  • Thanks my man. And say, that's a nice portrait of you that Atomic did. You have an interesting face. Great subject. Great songwriter too. Your endorsement means a lot. Have a good Turkey Day!

  • Lance, when you first sent this,I thought it was exceptionally good...it every way.I thought it was album material...I still do.Lyrically, this is earth-moving,musically,it is stunning it it's multi-layered simplicity.I only regret that 5* is all I can give! Now I can share, and hope HE sees the light. tom

  • Tom - You've got the talent to make your endorsement really valuable to me. Thanks. I'm lucky in my life. I write like writing as an observer of other people's troubles. I hope I never have to write autobiographically... that is being homeless, addicted, without love in my life. Hope I continue to be as lucky as I have been so far. Thanks again.

  • Ok,Here's the thingy, I don't give a fiddler's hoot iffin you watch my vids or not. Love Your Songs!

    Happy Thanksgiving my friend.

    BillyRay

  • Hey Billyray - Glad it works for you. You're the genuine article. Down to earth guy. Thanks for liking my stuff. Happy turkey day to you as well.

    Lance

  • Good tune. Saying good-bye is sometimes the best way. Addictions are just one long, public suicide thats apparent to everyone but the one dying. Best line I heard was a family member said "I love you but not what you do" and then walked away from he alley I lived in. We can't fix anyone...which is why they call it a miracle when the monkey leaves. Thanks for this :)

  • As always Brad, a thoughtful response. Thank you. I am fortunate that I have a happy life and much of my writing comes through projection into others lives... empathy if you will. 63 years have certainly taught me the lesson that you can't fix anyone. You're right on the money there. Thanks again.

  • Wow, Lance. Seriously. This hits close. In this deplorable deadend sinkhole I live in, it seems like so many people end up like that. Keep 'em coming. Live long and prosper. Peace. All that good shit.

    -Jimmy

  • I'm glad this hit a chord with you. Keep the faith as they say... and keep writing your good stuff.

    Lance
