Information, which is full of facts and meanings, has no inherent meaning, so it could be interpretated to mean that meaning has no meaning. However, the "what you do with it is what matters" makes sense, because information cannot mean or do anything unless it is dealt with physically. ex) The Odyssey is a wonderful book, but if you skim through it, the book (information) has done nothing to you

the desert scene explanation is WRONG! It doesn't have anything to do with your brain. The real reason is that when you stare at a color for a long time, the chemicals on your cone cells which react to the light of this color are used up, which results in you "seeing" the opposite color afterwards.

Similarly, when you stare into a bright light, you are blinded because your cone cells run out of chemicals for a short time, and not because of a brain adaption.

The left side is supposed to look Red and the right green, because when you looked at the top squares, the left is green and the right is red, as a result your brain tries to compensate by making the left visual field see red(red is the complimentary aka opposite color to green), and the right visual field see green(complimentary/opposite to red), therefore when you look at the desert scenes, the left side will be reddish and the right will be greenish.

Apparently I'm a complete realist because i got it.

The bear one was kind of strange because without colour the bear blends into the background. Hence there is no point.

His talk about information and context seems like mere logic. Small aspects of a picture may not tell anything about it as a whole and may look exactly like something from a picture totally unrelated.

And if I stare at the dot in between the green square on the left and the red square on the right and then close my eyes I see a red square on the left and a green square on the right. They flip around. And I've noticed this recently: If I stare at a window then close my eyes, at first I see a bright square surrounded by the darkness of the walls, but if I keep my eyes shut, at some point the colours inverse. The square that was the window becomes dark, and the walls light?

@Lisawsome I don't know what's happening but it must have something to do with why some of the illusions work. Have you seen the Castle illusion, where the sky becomes blue? Well, now we know how that works don't we - it has something to do with the castle being blue and then the colours flip around, so the sky becomes blue. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that we actually see things upside down and our brains reverse them? Weird whatever it is!

@1simonmatthews it has to do with complimentary (i'm german, no idea if that's right, otherwise translate komplimentaer to english) colors. While staring at the red and green screen, the receptors in your eyes are kind of overstressed with that particular color, which leads for you not to see white when looking at white (or other colors) for a short period of time. I believe if you stare at red an then look at a white sheet of paper, you see the complimentary color green
