I want to turbo my vg30de n/a because of the higher compression.. I can put the turbos under the car with piping right? I seen some new setups that would allow me to turbo without the tt front clip. Thoughts?
Iron block SOHC v6 Nissan. 80's stuff. Very sturdy, very compact (fits in everything) VERY CHEAP(junkyards are FULL of them). Best bang for the buck bar none.
Ignore the stock output of 205HP. Stock had no intercooler and a tiny turbo, shitty exhaust manifolds and a super restrictive cam (232 deg. IIRC). The heads have a lot of work that can be done with them as does EVERYTHING...but it is so cheap to double the HP... lots of potential in this engine.
years ago a friend of mine and I built a VG30e and added the turbo computer, injectors etc to it. The N/A has 9:1 compression so it has a bit more pop to it than the turbo engine (7.8:1) at low boost. Also you can really do serious headwork to these as well. Lots of points to improve in these engines.
@Tekvicious Stock exhaust manifolds aren't very shitty honestly, they're good for 700ish hp with some mild porting. Stock duration was 252, or 248 on later cars (262/264 euro cars) all with .393" lift. Stock on 84-87 was a T3 turbo @ 6.8psi producing 200hp, 88-89 a T25 @ 4.5psi (bottom end changes, such as higher compression ratio) with 205hp. A T3-car @ 10psi of boost makes around 250whp, which is a 90whp gain over stock 160whp.
they used a vg30 in the Electramotive GTP ZXT race car that won IMSA in the late 80s...
and you don't need 1000 foot pounds of torque to wheelstand a z31...you might need that much for a 2.5 ton 70s muscle car, but you don't need it for a 3300 pound z
