Really easy to follow just got an ESS which I hope to use for shooting has Chris made a full training programme or are there just the short ones on u/t
Any suggestions on how to make my golden retriever a little "birdier" or how to train her nose a little better? Or is this something that is mostly just bred into them?
thanks, sorry no HPR ones planned as yet but follow the basics and you wont go far wrong. its only the last bit ie pointing which will be different for you! good luck
i inherited a 9month old lab, good retriever, even in very deep water but he won't look up to see where the bird falls. i have to throw a rock beside to bird and he'll retrieve then. any ideas how to get him to get his head up?
try to sit him away from you then fire a starting pistol/gun and throw a retrieve so he gets used to associating a retrieve with a gun going off. you can also do more with getting him on 'blinds' ie practise sending for something he has not seen fall.

I got my sprocker using his nose firstly in the house by getting him to sit and stay and then hiding treats in various places around the living room.
Letting him hunt for them was like listening to a steam train puffing as he used his nose to hunt around.
The dog loved it and it also stimulated his hunting instinct, this idea was gradually moved outside etc.
