  • He was overt here....

  • "do you take drugs?"

    no

"what do you spend the money on?"

    drugs

  • "yeah. no. no. I don't know. yeah. what? no. huh? yeah. right. no"

    -----great interview.

  • Haha Lou obviously took a page from Andy Warhol's book.

  • @LukeHasGamez It doesn't matter whether he can "sing" or not. Technical proficiency is for those without vision. Revolver is an incredible album, and the Velvet Underground *is* what is left of indie rock. The rest is just noise.

  • I guess by the comments by other people here on youtube many people don't seem to understand art. It's not about how good "technically speaking" you are at singing. Art comes from the heart, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not art.

  • Lou Reed is like honeybadger. He doesn't give a shit!

  • This kunt cant sing for shit

  • @LukeHasGamez Nor can James Hetfield

  • @MetalMachineManiac This guys voice is all over the place? James Hetfield isnt.

  • lou reed berlin tour 1974 australia...

  • lou is one of the most original rock & roll characters of all time, beyond average, so cool..

  • Lol he's trolling the shit out of them

  • Lou Reed+Metallica=(N)

    Metallica Isolated=(Y)

  • sometimes

  • Hahaha trolling the media 101.

  • lolz that was epic

  • you can see the effect Warhol had on him :P

  • he sounds so fucked up lol

  • This was from his "shooting meth and drinking nectar" period. Anything he says to the media in this (and almost every other) period can be taken with a grain of salt. One of the most honest interviews I've seen from this guy was in a martial arts magazine from the early 00's.

  • everyone who says this interview made lou look stupid can suck a fat one. this guy was obviously having fun at the medias expense. cool in my book.

  • Lou Reed looked like a time traveler from 1984 in 1974. He was a bit ahead of his time.

  • i'm high on life hahahahahahahahahaha!

  • He looks like Duke Nukem.

  • LMFAO! This is great.

  • He should have just said "I don't want to be here" in response to every question.

  • And a man who knows he doesn't have to answer to anyone.

  • Deadpan comedy at its best. AllyWheels you haven't a clue. HAHAHA

  • He should have invented the troll face

  • Hilarious. How else would one deal with a bunch of stupid questions from a bunch of absolute squares.

  • this isnt foolish, hes just obligated to talk, so he's just taking a piss for his own entertainment.

  • This is right out of the Andy Warhol school of being interviewed. Very funny.

  • Bahahahahahahah '' I don't do drugs''....... 'what do u spend your money on'? 'drugs'!

  • @LukyPhilo if you were paying attention, the follow up question is "buying drugs for other people?" and he says yeah. But your first mistake was taking any of it seriously.

  • Ha..ha..yes, he is doing "Andy" here..I don't blame him, their questions are inane.

  • Comment removed

  • he is doing a good job doing warhol too!

  • He was stoned as fuck.

  • @ 1:04...it's Tyrell from the Tyrell Corporation-Blade Runner

  • Lou Reed hates you.

  • No one will ever be as cool as Lou Reed.

  • that was a great fuck you attitude

  • SHit is hilarious

  • do you take any drugs, "no"

what do you spend your money on, "drugs"

  • @ShreddGamer14 "For other people?" "Right."

  • @TheGenYgirl haha

  • this interviewer is a prick

  • lou reed is the definition of "punk". "i dont give a fuck" is written on his forehead

  • Hilariously droll dead pan humour from a time when respect was spelt r e s p e c t .

  • This is one of my favorite Lou interviews. Lou's a hell of a nice guy, or at least he was when I met him a few years back after a show. 2008. He was tired as hell, but still obliged my friend and I by giving us a hug, signing our stuff, taking a pic with me and chatting it up for a few mins. One of the best nights of my life. I'm sure he can be a dick, I've read all the stories...but maybe he's mellowed a bit in his old age. Anyway, great musician. One of my favorites, for sure.

  • Lou Reed's too cool for you.

  • Why can't more "celebrities" act like him? XD

  • I have a hunch Lou might be high.

  • "The government is against me."

"I don't take drugs...I want people to take drugs."

    I LOVE THIS GUY!!!!!

  • What an idiot this guy is.

  • @MyAccount4TrollingU so he's an idiot? may I ask why? is it because some douchebag English journalists asked him ridiculous questions that he didn't seem to have any patience for? if so, well then sure anyone can come off like an 'idiot' at any given time

  • @81thirtytwo He's a poser faggot. If he doesn't like answering questions he shouldn't make himself available for them.

  • @MyAccount4TrollingU how in the fuck is he a poser? he was singing rock music when you were swimmin' around in your dad. What are you a journalist or something? You empathize with these idiots asking him ridiculous shit, He probably made himself available thinking they just might ask him something worthwhile. All these fuckin clowns did was pry into shit about his personal life that wasn't any of their business in the first place. I'm glad he came off like such a prick

  • @81thirtytwo I see you are 23, so I will take that into consideration. I am the same age as this poser , and heard his music then as I have heard it now. He has always been a tool and a knob, and his "talent" is ridiculously overrated.

  • @MyAccount4TrollingU You're 69? Then you should be mature enough to appreciate him. You also should be mature enough not to be calling people "tools."

  • "Are you a transvestite or homosexual?"

    "Sometimes."

    "Which one?"

    "I don't know. What's the difference?"

    I LOVE THIS MAN.

  • This is fucking awesome. He was trolling so hard.

  • Ultimate trolling :')

  • this is too funny

  • this is to funny

  • Even though he looks so cool and I love "heroin" and even sing it with passion yeah I would never do it. :P

  • Morrissey played this as part of a montage of footage from the 70s during the build up to his performance on tour:)

  • @hiellieee YES!

  • this is so fucking great

  • Multi-millionaire rebel Lou Reed sounded a little foolish here in my opinion.

  • @AllyWheels Such a prominent man.

  • @lusidghost you should have just let such an oblivious comment die in fucker hell where it belongs

  • @AllyWheels Did you not understand that he was deliberately responding to stupid questions with equally stupid answers?

  • @82rondo I do realise that, yes, but i still think he sounds foolish and not very witty. I think the sycophants love his crazy attitude in this interview though. Like it or not, the mainstream media made him what he is. Music is nothing without an audience.

  • @AllyWheels Seriously. he''s always come off to be as a fucking poseur.

  • @AllyWheels I appreciate his standoffish answers to what are mostly asinine questions. Music journalism is stupid on the whole and Lou Reed is right to be critical of it.

  • @djmuaddib Contrary to that, i think he milked this media opportunity to the extreme, appealing to his more easily impressed fans. He is sooo cool and funny etc. I just think he sounded foolish and hypocritical.

  • @AllyWheels Just because you don't care for the humor, does it make it necessarily foolish.

  • @AllyWheels

Very, very foolish indeed. He'd have been much better not doing such an interview. He gained nothing from this farce.

  • @AllyWheels

Actually he played them perfectly, everything he said was a contradiction. Journalists are all looking for one thing that they can screw people with, he gave that to them and then take it away seconds later. His music, lifestyle lyrics and everything about him was about paradox, that's how he got attention and that's how he made people listen. the subject matter was questionable, he stayed neutral on everything and let the Journalists answer the questions on his behalf.

  • @AllyWheels He's mimicking andy warhol

  • you are mr. jones. look it up

  • @AllyWheels That's the point sir, he's messing with them.

  • @magnusalpha yup, i know. He's also glorifying drug use and being a hypocrite by exploiting the media when it suits him.

  • @AllyWheels you twat. he's playing the idiot media - just like dylan in the san-fran conference

  • lmao he's such a dick here I love it

  • Lou doing his best Bob Dylan.

  • How can you help but love this guy. Even if he put out bad music which he does NOT you still couldn't help but love his attitude. Mind you he put out some of the most amazing music of all time. The best pycedellic rocker of all time. I love how he acts all aloof in this interview and constantly contradicts himself.

  • He looks like Steve-O here

  • "im high on life" hahaha this dude is insaine hes another good songwriter : )

  • Did anyone else see the thumbnail and think this was a long-last Late Night with Conan interview clip before they got here?

  • He majored in journalism so gtfo

  • Cuz it's better than Monopoly...

  • I'm tired of seeing phoney interviews & my heart leapt watching an icon like Lou breaking away from giving a typical know-nothing interview with wasted words to be forgotten as soon as they escape your lips. Also he look great, love the hair. The tradgedy of growing old.

  • does anyone know what sunglass' he's wearing?

  • in soviet russia, you lie to the media

  • Work it Lou!!

  • this man is awsome

  • do you take drugs? no. what do you spend your money on? drugs.

  • Whats the song playing at the beginning?

  • LOU YOUR MY FUCKING HERO!

  • lou completely rips their fucking asses off in this

  • lou reed= god

  • God, I Love Lou !!! Idiotic questions deserve snarky, sarcastic answers ! He looked a bit like a blonde Richard Belzer when he looks straight at the camera . The reporters are all serious, scribbling down what he says like they got a scoop and Lou fell into their trap----fuckin' fools !

  • He's only expecting questions that are incriminating that is why he constantly checks the reporter's presumptions because that's when most artists reveal themselves is when they assume a part of a question that make it incriminating. it's the reporter's fault but as an artist you also have to be aware of how you play the game, and this man played it correctly, whether if his morals were right or wrong

  • its better than monopoly haha didnt expect that

  • he's sooo Andy Warhol in this interview

  • Best Interview Ever!!!

  • Interviewer: "Were you searched for drugs?"

Lou: "No, because I don't take any"

    [Later in same interview]

Interviewer: "Where do you spend your money?"

    Lou : "On drugs"

  • @CBamProductions

    Interviewer: "For other people?"

    Lou: "Right"

  • they ask some dumb questions ...

  • Fuck ya Lou, Fuck it Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how his sarcasm is taken so seriously by ppl. They'd be shocked to know his IQ and education level. HAHAHa "I didn't say that, the press did" -- "are you a transvestite or a homosexual?" LOU - Whats the difference?" lmfao.. ohhhh how awesome to wake up to Lou Reed!

  • This is funny. Even the guy interviewing him laughed. I would have too.

  • heroin hero!

  • he looks like duke nukem in this

  • @bucksausage He's got the attitude too. "come get some"

  • Literally the best interview I have ever seen.

  • Tha grin when he said he doesn't take drugs is a grin only a junkie would get. Unfortunately, I am one of them. I have also listened to many a Lou Reed tunes after fixing. The grin he's giving is such a cultural statement of the time, the "drug culture" vs "them"

  • @KeepRockin55 Lou is simply saying what he wants them to say-- he's very sarcastic lol

  • lou is cool as fuck

sucking his drink with two straws

    please marry me

  • spends his money on drugs....for other people.

  • ALPHA AS FUCK

  • damn that guy at 0:28 was fast

  • i love this man

  • I love his dead pan blunt expressionless answers to stupid questions. A great musician...but not a real 'people person'.

  • He's kind of a dick

  • @michigangirl1994 Yeah he's known for it, that being said I'd be a dick to this interviewer too. Dumb questions.

  • He would have been even more awesome without taking drugs.

Right now I think that the person we saw in the interview is not the real Reed but just another junky.

  • @red33m23 it would have been impossible for him to be as famous as he is without taking drugs, have you even heard to lou's music? ignorant

  • @Masto12321 So are you assuming that his final goal is to become famous? I thought it was to make good music..

  • @red33m23 ARE YOU KIDDING ME? of course making good music is the most important thing. im just saying that LOU REED IS AS AWSEOME AS HE IS BECAUSE OF EVERY LITTLE THING HE DID (that includes taking drugs), every action he made led to right now, the moment where you and i both listen to his music. apart from that im also saying that there's a great deal of his songs that talk about drugs and it would have been impossible for him to write them without taking them.

    conclusion: fuck you, you phony

  • @Masto12321 I for no reason support taking drugs so I really like his songs as far as they don't promote the use of drugs.

I have a deep faith that every person is better in character without them. Maybe Lou has covered his weak personality by using chemical substances like these.

Conclusion: I really love his music but I really don't care to bear in mind his fake personality.

  • @red33m23 yea reed needed drugs to write half of his music epsicially the vr shit i don't think it would be the same if he wasn't popping smack in the 60's

  • It's ok giving weird answers if they're funny or witty. His are neither. He's just saying simple, obvious, non-committal things because he can't think quickly. It's like a comedian dying before your eyes - cringeworthy and embarrassing! And to think I used to be the 3rd-joined member of the Lou Reed UK Fan Club back in the 70s!

  • Awesome. I love standoffish interviews with out of touch journalists. I mean, who in the position of Lou Reed circa 1974 would actually have given these people a proper interview? That wouldn't make sense.

  • I think Reed, Dylan and other prophets knew that whatever got published about them would be hugely inaccurate and gross distortions of who they were. So they felt no problem in confusing these reporters with strange responses and self-contradicting statements. They recognized the idiocy of these grown men and women frantically scribbling down their mumbled musings to be read by the waiting room crowd in Time magazine.

  • What. the. hell. did. I. just. watch.

  • Does anyone know the name or where one can find a pair of those sunglasses????

  • should have had him on the parkinson show.

  • does he take drugs ???

  • @88voodooray lol yes

  • @88voodooray dunno mate, a total mystery

  • i've said it before and i'll say it again lou reed is my hero

  • as ever he is trying to be LOU REED

  • This interview is hilarious. At the end even the interviewer is smiling. Reed was one cheeky fucker.

  • Comment removed

  • This is why I hate mainstream artists nowadays, They are all about public relations and having a really cliche chat to the reporters about how much of a great time theyre having in whichever city theyre in, then mentioning one or two songs as well as future intents.... its so boring, so cowardly. they stick almost to an unwritten template for interviews so that they cant look bad. but lets face it, a real rock n roller shouldnt really give a shit what he/she says....

  • @jimmerding hipster faggot

  • LOL....what a character......XD

  • he is so trying to be warhol

  • I don't even listen to Lou Reed but he is just so fucking cool

  • owned

  • @ilove60s1 what's the difference?

  • @lusidghost its the fact that we listen to their songs because we enjoy them and it doesnt matters why or what it means or who is lou reed ishe gay or if he uses drugs what does matters is that he made great songs.

  • nothing is better than monopoly

  • reporter got mind fucked!

  • hes so cooooooooo

  • @BunnyMan456 He's not trying to be anyone - He's BEING Lou Reed

  • Such a lousy interview, maybe its symtomatic of the situation in the 70ties. The whole situation makes it shallow and Lou is just like a blank screen for the interviewer.

  • I really like Lou Reed but I fucking hate the way he twists everything to make him seem almost unlike himself, or sort of hidden in a way. He wants to contradict everything his audience may assume... Like when the reporter is asking questions his answers are brief and the opposite of what might be expected to say.. I don't really know, but he seems like a dick.

  • i dont even understand why lou reed didnt punch him

  • blonde hair, black hair, it doens't matter. He's a badass.

  • Hes high

  • Lou is just providing a feedback loop into the septic-tank that is celebrity-driven journalism. At least he has a sense of humor, unlike some who actually seem to believe their own hype, ugh. I wonder if "The INsider" would air this if it happened today, i'm guessing not many would get the joke.

  • EVERYONE...if you like lou reed PLEASE add person called Marko Matorić on facebook...he looks exactly like him...hahahaha im fucking serious this is no joke :D

  • HATE WHAT YOU LIKE IF YOU LIKE IT SAVE IT THUMBS DOWN BECOUSE I LOVE YOU

  • Interviewer: Do you take any drugs?

    Lou: No.

Interviewer: What do you spend your money on?

    Lou: Drugs.

  • WHAT DO U SPEND UR MONEY ON?...DRUGS...YES LOL DRUGS

  • weirdo

  • This is like a horror movie I know I've seen but can't remember the name of.

  • he learnt a lot from andy giving short answers to stupid questions..............

  • david bowie lou reed bob dylan andy warhol they all sound the same during interviews cause they are all off there heads

  • You thought he was an Arsehole to the Ozzie's? He was more an Arsehole to the Kiwi's. He trashed his Hotel room. Walked out of interviews and even stubbed out a cigeretteb etween the thighs of one pretty female Interviewer. Walked around with Head phones on constantly, so no-body couold talk to him.... only time a Journo caught up with him was at a Chemist on Ponsonby road. He was after Prozac.

  • Drugs?

Get to rehab, get clean, and get addicted to pharmaceuticals

prescribed by the legit drug dealers: physicians!

  • I can't tell if he's being genuine, putting on an act two be funny, or being a douche, but if it's one of the first two he is soo much cooler than I thought he was before watching this!
