This song has always reminded me of my Uncle. He was a Vietnam Veteran who came home with drug addiction; his choice; and mental illness which was mostly not. I most remember him for teaching me it was o.k. to be silly, teaching me to LOVE music and to play the harmonica, instillling in me a respect for all things natural, and for always treating me with love and lots of compassion. He committed suicide in 2007. I miss him and I still scream the final verse/chorus of this amazing song.
"The Spring high desert wind rushed down on us all the way back home"
This is my favorite line of the album. It represents pure life and the feeling of freedom. It it the perfect contradiction to the dead friend who will never experience those things again. I always loved this song before I knew its meaning, but once I knew what he was writing about... chills... absolute chills.
This guy's son, or friend, is the Gypsy Biker who didn't come home. Does a theme or tie-in need to be spelled out for you. Try and think a little more abstractly, creatively, and with more of an open mind.
westy1958: Incredibly done. I am speechless, really. Is there a story behind this? If there is, would you care to share? Beautiful work. You should enter this in a contest. Peace. :)
doofusmoo: Many of the Soldiers leave from a base near me, some of them come back to a Cemetery that is down the road from me. I have gone and stood back, paying my respects. Feeling my heart ripped open each time, even though I did not know them. I have watched the Patriot Guard Riders keep the Fundie protesters from disrupting the services. It is all very difficult. God Speed to all the families who lose loved ones and to all who have served and who serve now. Peace :)
This is one of my favorite songs off of Magic. So glad you made a great video out of it! Thanks so much!

But most of all, write with less cruelty.
