Not one of them has any idea what "Corporations are People" actually means. It reduces their votes to utter waste, and that the US is headed toward a country run entirely by, not corporations (I've got one of those) but, *huge* corporations who's profits are the only Moral Good they are permitted (by law) to adhere to. The American school system clearly has produced a room full of moms with heads that are empty of useful knowledge. No wonder America is failing -- these are the voters.
They don't have to like/get his jokes or agree with him politically, but at the beginning, when he took a moment to appreciate his own mother they didn't even clap or give him an "awwww" or something? That's bullshit!

Colbert and his writers are brilliant. He is informative in a way that keeps people watching. He points out through satire all that is wrong in the world. Recently he and Stewart pointed out that it is crazy how this candidate-corporation relationship is, and anyone with an education can realize that if this continues, then politicians will represent the biggest corporations, not the people. The people only choose a candidate that is running, who soon must be supported by corporations.

Our political system is already a complete joke. Colbert is just making it more obvious by exposing the devious things that "serious" politicians already do. Kudos to him for doing it in a way that makes people laugh.
Good GOD! Corporations are NOT people! Last time I checked from my Biology 101 textbook; corporations wasn't in the binomial nomenclature. O wait! Found it... Psuedovitam corpus my bad.
there is a big difference between your small business and a corporation
if your business fails and falls into debt those dedts can be taken from your own personnel finances and property
If a corporation fails, shareholders may lose their investment, and employees may lose their jobs, but neither will be liable for debts to the corporation's creditors
@jmamesful I think you greatly underestimate the number of small businesses that are corporations. Could be one reason so many liberals can't understand why "common" people vote against what you think their self interest is.
@cheeseburger12 I think we have a different opinion of what constituents a small business
I think a small business has a low profit margin and less then 25 employes
I just cant see I business like that paying for a Lawyer to handle the legal aspects of incorporation
also it doesn't blow my mind that some one might have a different idea of whats good for them or even that some one would vote (knowingly or not) agents there own self interest
@jmamesful And you don't think many of those small business aren't also corporations. They may not have full time lawyers on retainer, but guess what...they are corporations also.
@deadfacewv Which wasn't the point. Jmam talked to her as if she didn't know the difference between a corp and a sole proprietorship. She probably did know the difference and was incorporated, wouldn't you say Mr. Uncommon commoner? And having a small biz corp does still offer her more protection then not having it? And in fact, would you not agree that many small businesses are corporations?
I basically already said said things, Mr Burger Meister Meister Burger, including that I know several corps with 3 employees and that it's easy to do. Big business (aka large corps) get away with so much more and are protected better than small corporations. Same in any case of wealthy versus any lower class, and middle class gets better treatment than lower class. Just the way it usually is. Which was my point.
@deadfacewv "better protected" in some ways but not all. A lot of lawsuits get filed against people with money, a large number are baseless. Progressive wealth transfers is just a fancy way of taking someone else's money - I hardly call that better treatment. My step father decided not to work and live off of taxpayers - he may have made less money then Gates, but I wouldn't say the govt treated him worse then Gates just because he had less money.
Luntz is another fake tough guy from the right. When did he ever fight in these wars he loves? He's the first to run and he has the nerve to call Colbert a woman?! Luntz, YOU HAVE TITS! AND THEY'RE NASTY!
Good to see all those Normal Mom who nailed Corbert for what he is right from the get go. A Liberal Left Leaning "Comedian" ! The liberals can't stand that the SCOTUS has put Corporations on par with Unions. SO much for the advantage of Democrats !
So? My mom would have the same reaction if I tried to show her 'Anchorman'. We'll see who's really laughing when Stephen (aka Herman Cain) Colbert garners some votes this week!
Kuddos to the lady 26:29 for being in favor of free thinking and against censorship! It does not seem that there are a lot of people in SC that agree with her.
I think there's a disconnect between what people think the phrase "Corporations are people" means. Many seem to explain it as corporations are built upon the shoulders of all the people in it, especially with smaller local corporations. I mean, heck, even I agree with that romantic notion. The problem, and disconnect, is when we then literally give corporations the same rights as people. The people in the larger corporations don't give a rats ass about romantic notions, they can now buy votes.
@Zsinjeh Unlike the democrats that clearly don't buy votes when they promise to take money for the wealthy and give it to the poor/middle class. Oh look, social security, medicare, and medicaid are almost 50% of total federal spending and we have runaway deficits. Imagine that.
There is no deficit (STILL) in Social Security. And who is the US government most in debt to? Europe? China? Nope. They've raided Social Security funds for nearly 2,5 trillion, and it is STILL solvent.
@deadfacewv Are you serious? Social security is solvent? This year it paid out more then it took in. With demographics that won;t change but accelerate. To call that solvent is insane. It is as solvent as Maddoff's schemes except the govt can keep it going longer because it can tax and print money. But even the govt can't do that at increasing amounts forever.
Um - it's paid out more than it's taken in 13 previous times on a YEARLY basis before in history. It is solvent through 2036 WITHOUT any adjustments made to it. I'd say it looks good, but can be better. It's much more solvent than any of Maddoff's schemes, but you wanna regurgitate what you see or hear on some "news editorial" programs, go right ahead. I prefer cold, hard facts. Social Security was NOT intended to be a part of the budget, but dipping fixed that.
@deadfacewv Execpt SS is part of the budget. The money you think is there until 2036 is essentially US savings bonds. Which means the govt spent that money and promised to pay it back. Which means that money isn't there. It is debt that will have to be paid out of other taxes or from other services. .And since the federal govt is already running huge deficits without paying back those bonds...that doesn't seem solvent to me.
Solvent without changes... not that money is full blown in the coffers. the 2.6 trillion owed wouldn't last but 3.5 years as payout.
Believe me, I'm PISSED at both parties, beginning with Reagan and the Dem house at the time, for raiding social security. I'm sick of when the GOP is out of power, then they want a balanced budget, but when in power, they run up huge deficits. I was gonna go rip a little into Obama as well, but the character limit here sucks. I'm alsosick of mult
@deadfacewv The raiding hardly started there, it was how it was set up in the beginning. The demographics aren't stable. And when you add in medicare & medicaid and look how they have been rising as a percentage of GDP, then look at tax revenue as a percentage of GDP....we are screwed. I don;t care what tax rates you set, without massive cuts....game over. And politicians, they have too much faith in the govt's ability to come up with unlimited revenue.
@deadfacewv The entire purpose of SS was to raid. That is why retirement was set at the average age of life expectancy. The average person was supposed to pay in their entire life and die and not get any.
@Zsinjeh Corporations are partnerships of people. If corporations aren't "people" and shouldn't have any influence in the electoral process (they still can;t vote as a corp) then why should they pay taxes? No taxation without representation! Oh...another "romantic notion".
You look at the mess in Washington and ask yourself "how the hell did this happen?" Then you look at typical Americans and see the problem; it's not only the politicians' fault, its also the fault of dumbass ill informed ignorant Americans who elected them in the first place. Someone needs to make the fact that Americans are dumb and ill informed. Our leaders can't say this because its become politically incorrect to label Americans as dumb and uneducated.
At first I wondered why he was speaking to this crowd like they are all 5 year olds.....then I heard them speak. Question answered. Thanks heinous crowd of women in SC!
This is very bizarre. Ummm…you guys Do know that “Stephen Colbert” is just a character right?? And not Actually suppose to be taken seriously….right???
His whole point of “running for president” is to have fun and to help expose how corrupt our process is getting
@izaccy I admit, their attitudes are hard to defend. My own father (who is significantly more conservative than I) watched this video and found the women's stance upsetting.
But the whole event was kind of all over the place. Frank Luntz is a Republican speaker, and it was hard to tell whether he was being supportive or dismissive of Colbert at times. And the event itself was meant as a meet-and-greet for Santorum, so the crowd was certain an evangelical one. But yeah...no laughter at all.
"He pushes us over the cliff" -- "He takes things too lightly" -- Some of these women are the reason why when femininity takes a step forward and then 5 steps back. Absolute idiots. The only smart ones were the ones who said they needed more information and to hear more of what he had to say before making a decision. Most of these women are making decisions based off of an "idea" of what Stephen is about. They need to educate themselves, watch his show and any other video segments of him.
@MelgMike53: Right, because if we all saw Colbert and his snarky videos we would understand that he's really not just he's patronizing conservatives; he's wasting their time, too. This is neither the time nor the place for satire. You're just a fan who is upset that the people he's making fun of don't admire him like you do.
@TruthForLiberals Yes I am a huge Stephen Colbert fan. I disagree with you that this is in fact the perfect time and place for satire. This isn't about him patronizing conservatives, it's about him patronizing and mocking the way our government is being run.. and that itself IS a mockery. Case and point, the whole superpac debacle. Get off of your high horse and quit trying to analyze everyone's comments. You're not that smart.
i agree to him to where corporations are people because our business is to where I have an entrepreneurship so yes, i think the guy saying the thing about corporations is right because small businesses are like people and Iraq, and South Africa such as maps...and such as...
S.C.'s mos def the most conservatarded state in the union.
Thanks to all for creating and posting this. I'm from South Carolina/Oklahoma and live in NYC. I try so hard to explain to my friends in NYC how insulated/isolated we are from the rest of America's thinking.
this video speaks volumes to the way the American audience thinks and sees things. Satire is completely over so many of these people's heads that it is scary. It is scary that these people and millions more just like them will be voting for the person who will be the most powerful man in the world. This is scary, really, really scary. Sorry for all the Republican's who don't agree with me but he is trying to tell you that your electoral system is a mess, it is flawed and needs to be fixed.
First, It's not the "Republican's electoral system" - it's ours.
Second, this isn't satire. This is a Leftist joker thinking he can make a mockery of our electoral system in order to disrupt the Republican's primary process. Not only isn't what he's doing welcome, it most certainly isn't satire, and that was hardly the place and time for satire anyway.
@princetonbc I find it scary how so many liberals like yourself can feel so intelligent and self important and yet know so little. And they allow you to vote also.
i really wonder if those girls realize, that Colbert DOESN'T think of corporations as people and considers SuperPACs a perversion of the democratic process.
Building a platform on satire doesn't seem to promise much success.
@Aroddo I am sure that many of those women not only realized that Colbert doesn't think corporations are people, they probably also realize what Colbert really thinks of them.
@Aroddo Maybe you got taken in by democrat lies. Of course not, because you are so much smarter then everyone else. How about these, "no taxation without representation". Your smart enough to remember where that came from. If corporations shouldn't have any electoral voice and they aren't "people" why are they taxed?
@Aroddo: Corporations ARE people. They are created by people, they are inspired by people, they are staffed by people. And for legal and taxing purposes, they are literally considered individuals. What's really funny is all this nonsense about how they AREN'T people - the only reason anyone would believe such a bizarre piece of fiction and something that is so obviously untrue is because they are trying to de-humanize corporations so they can destroy them and not worry about the "little people".
@TruthForLiberals sweet, so when they outsourced my job i should thank them for taking it to a place like China or India, and for paying those people less than they did me. also, lets face it, outsourcing happened when i was just a little middle schooler, pre-millenium. my teacher warned us, and we all thought he was a nutty person. now i look back and realize: the same shit is happening. people are warning us and we're just eating the fodder the media and pundits give us.
@TruthForLiberals Corporations are not people/individuals, corporations are collective organizations formed by groups of people. "legal and taxing purposes they are literally considered individuals." My ass, if corporations are individuals they'd be paying a FULL 35% income tax rate, not a 5% effective tax rate. If they get the same legal treatment how come corporations are never jailed, tortured, or executed? Drop the corporate dick and wake up.
I think the problem is none of these women watch him normally. Yes he is a comedian but I think would trust him a hell of a lot more than the other guys.
What a diverse group of South Carolina moms. Old white repugs and young white repugs.
Go ahead and vote against your own best interests.
Corporation's only allegiance is profits. Please don't surrender our democracy to the highest bidders: Chinese cleptocrats, Romneybots and Saudi princes.
@luv4vrv:How do you know Colbert isn't just mocking Leftists who think they're clever when they talk about "repugs" and lecture us on what capitalism is and isn't? It's what I see whenever I watch him; it's so cute how you all think you're so clever! Besides, Obama sold our souls to the Chinese already.
I'm sorry but,I watched about 10 minutes of this and just couldn't make myself watch anymore. I will admit I never really heard of, let alone watched him before and now I know I haven't missed anything.

TruthForLiberals 1 month ago
@TruthForLiberals Yes I am a huge Stephen Colbert fan. I disagree with you that this is in fact the perfect time and place for satire. This isn't about him patronizing conservatives, it's about him patronizing and mocking the way our government is being run.. and that itself IS a mockery. Case and point, the whole superpac debacle. Get off of your high horse and quit trying to analyze everyone's comments. You're not that smart.

@TruthForLiberals Right I'm pretty sure the god fearing folks at Fox News are more serious about current issues than Colbert.

i agree to him to where corporations are people because our business is to where I have an entrepreneurship so yes, i think the guy saying the thing about corporations is right because small businesses are like people and Iraq, and South Africa such as maps...and such as...

Sorry for all the Republican's who don't agree with me but he is trying to tell you that your electoral system is a mess, it is flawed and needs to be fixed.
princetonbc 1 month ago 28
@princetonbc:

@TruthForLiberals
you already turned your electoral system into a joke.
you are free game.

@TruthForLiberals it is a joke dumbass.

Aroddo 1 month ago
@Aroddo I am sure that many of those women not only realized that Colbert doesn't think corporations are people, they probably also realize what Colbert really thinks of them.
cheeseburger12 1 month ago
@cheeseburger12
but at the same time they get Colbert's sarcasm they get taken in by the republican lies?
nah, they are either as shallow as they appear or they merely spotted Colbert's insincerity (which isn't really that hard to spot).
Aroddo 1 month ago
@Aroddo Maybe you got taken in by democrat lies. Of course not, because you are so much smarter then everyone else. How about these, "no taxation without representation". Your smart enough to remember where that came from. If corporations shouldn't have any electoral voice and they aren't "people" why are they taxed?
cheeseburger12 1 month ago
looks like those people for the first time had a serious discussion about the coorporations-are-people nonsense.
Aroddo 1 month ago
@Aroddo: Corporations ARE people. They are created by people, they are inspired by people, they are staffed by people. And for legal and taxing purposes, they are literally considered individuals. What's really funny is all this nonsense about how they AREN'T people - the only reason anyone would believe such a bizarre piece of fiction and something that is so obviously untrue is because they are trying to de-humanize corporations so they can destroy them and not worry about the "little people".
TruthForLiberals 1 month ago
@TruthForLiberals sweet, so when they outsourced my job i should thank them for taking it to a place like China or India, and for paying those people less than they did me. also, lets face it, outsourcing happened when i was just a little middle schooler, pre-millenium. my teacher warned us, and we all thought he was a nutty person. now i look back and realize: the same shit is happening. people are warning us and we're just eating the fodder the media and pundits give us.

@TruthForLiberals They are literally not considered individuals when it comes to legal and taxing purposes.

@TruthForLiberals
No. The people inside a corporation are people.
I know, you get good money for writing your bullshit, but don't expect your nonsense to catch on.
Aroddo 1 month ago
@TruthForLiberals Corporations are not people/individuals, corporations are collective organizations formed by groups of people. "legal and taxing purposes they are literally considered individuals." My ass, if corporations are individuals they'd be paying a FULL 35% income tax rate, not a 5% effective tax rate. If they get the same legal treatment how come corporations are never jailed, tortured, or executed? Drop the corporate dick and wake up.

I think the problem is none of these women watch him normally. Yes he is a comedian but I think would trust him a hell of a lot more than the other guys.

THis is hilarious...
There is nothing to trust in Frank Luntz once he's ripped a new one by Colbert. This stunt only adds fuel to his comedy.

THAT is what Colbert is mocking.
luv4vrv 1 month ago
@luv4vrv:How do you know Colbert isn't just mocking Leftists who think they're clever when they talk about "repugs" and lecture us on what capitalism is and isn't? It's what I see whenever I watch him; it's so cute how you all think you're so clever! Besides, Obama sold our souls to the Chinese already.
