I did both preschool and kindergarten in Germany when my family was stationed there. Preschool is basically just day care or a place to drop the kid off while you're at work ;-p. Kindergarten involves a bit more "learning".

If nursery school is the same in the Uk as it is in the US, nursery school is basically a mass babysitter where they attempt to teach you things. I went to nursery school in someone's house as well, but they lived upstairs and had a seperate kitchen and pagings and fingerpainting and blocks area in the downstairs. It's where my mother sent me because she had to work, it was fun, and they tried to teach the kids preschool things but if you didn't learn it, you didn't have to repeat the grade!
