I grew up in Alabama, and my Dad took me to see this movie when I was about 6. I remember it pissed him off pretty badly how terrible it was. The director paid great attention to some details, then completely blew it everywhere else. There's a scene on a porch in the 1960s where a 1983 Buick drives by. At 1957 Texas A&M it shows Bear walking astroturf sidelines and coaching 1983 players. I have a video copy I bought in Tuscaloosa, and I've watched it recently. It's a decent attempt, but bad
It was a good idea not to try to physically duplicate the bear completely and go for the character and the personality instead. I'd nominate, (with lots of make up and the hat on, and crash training Alabama culture): Dennis Quaid, Harrison Ford, Nick Nolte and maybe Russel Crowe, but an unknown would probably be best.
There definantly needs to be a Bear Bryant movie, the story was fine, it could stand some lighthearted moments, cooler soundtrack, better editing and better actors, but the story was fine. I hope a new movie will be made soon.
I thought about Robert Pattinson to play him when he was young and wrestled the bear, but that was a while ago, based on seeing him in the Harry Potter movie.
Now everyone would just say, look its Edward Cullen.
This movie was a decent attempt. But the production quality is terrible. The sound is especially bad. There should definitely be a high budget movie made about the Bear with high profile actors, state of the art production techniques, and quality editing.
An interesting story told pretty well, but poor quality.
I did not like this movie much. There should definantly be a Bryant movie (and the its title should be "The Bear" cause nothings cooler than that) but there needs to be a...
-an A list cast for people like Shia LeBeouf as Kenny Stabler or something.
-A non-80's crap soundtrack. Listen to the shoundtracks to Remember the Titans or the Greatest Game Ever Played.
-more emphasis on his football games (not just the illinois one)
i've never seen the movie..but this trailer is pretty laughable.. Bryant kicks a bucket of water... Bryant yells at someone.. Bryant yells at someone else. Doesn't really capture Bryant's gravita much at all.

Far as i'm concerned the original has already been made, cut, put to script and starred Paul W. Bryant, they'll never be another one like him!!

But if they did, who would play Coach Bryant?

I always thought that Tommy Lee Jones could pull off a decent "older Coach Bryant", but I don't know who would be a good fit for his younger years.
