I don't use an air brush but checked out the video anyway. 1) You're really handy with that air brush 2) the techniques are radically different 3) The end result looks really nice.
It has a very natural look to it which is something I've always like about air brushing. Thanks for the vid.
Excellent video, very thorough. I like the pre-shading and I learn more from watching people like you than I ever have from any book or article. Thanks for the tips!
Hi, this is an amazing affect, but I have a question, I collect a soviet themed IG army and have a showcase project on a vehicle, how would you adjust this technique for a camoflage scheme (2 colour and a light underbelly of a flier)
You really inspired me with your video tutorials and I think you are doing a great job! Thank you so much! Since I got back into Miniature gaming and since I saw your videos I just had to get an Airbrush and I think one can achive amazing effects with it! I'm loving it!
Anyway, I have a simple Question: When you say you thin your paint 1:20 does it mean 1 drop paint + 20 drops thinner medium (cleaner+thinner)? I did it the other way around and I can barely see the preshading...THANKS!
@SMConsortium I guess that explains why it was so hard to get an even AND thin layer of my basecolor over the preshading work...i did roughly 20parts paint and 5 parts thinner....Thanks for the quick reply and thank you again for the amazing work you're doing!
peace from germany and i keep recommending your videos :)
Wow man I You've got a lot of talent, I've been playing 40k for a while now and I'm just getting a airbrush soon and I really like the pre and post shading techniques you used.
I would not suggest using windex. It is silicone based (if I am not mistaken) silicone will cause fish eyes (painting term). Long story short all bad for paint and airbrush.
@DustinTL09 Still in post. I'm tying to figure if I want to show it again with another model using just the base coat and post shading technique. Showing ya how to do it another way. Might as well. I have 2 more rhino's to paint lol
@kushairi Pffft... I am a master of no one, just a master of myself... Makes for really odd conversations with myself though. I can never figure out if the student have surpassed the master or if the master is still the master.
I just picked up my first airbrush last week. I haven't had a chance to start using it yet though. This video is a huge point in the right direction. Thanks for the upload!
Somehow I always thought that when painting with an airbrush one would paint stuff faster. Now that I've looked into it more it seems that it also can take as long as with a regular brush. Great work and good tips if I'll ever end up grabbing an airbrush.
@LordDestruction Yes and no. Depends on the technique. Same as the brush. Some technique take longer, some you can just do in mere minutes. It would be faster if you skipped the pre-shading part and just base coat and then shade in the dark color then the light color. I switch often between an airbrush and a regular brush. There's just some things you can and can't do with either or. At least for me.
Great video thanks . Nice to see you putting into action all the previous vids on airbrushing to use . It brings all you taught us into focus . Thanks my friend . All the best seasons greatings .
@Catachan1brainleaf Yeh totally, especially if you weather heavy like I do, it starts covering most of it but it's those spots that shows through that adds to the model as a whole.
@WGConsortium awesome thanks. I am gonna hit you with one right away then...LOL.
I have heard people talk about screening paint prior to putting it in the airbrush cup. I was wondering what does one use to screen the paint, and do you find this to be a necessary and useful technique. Thanks for offering your wisdom.
@Shiznaft1 I never found the need to with tamiya or vallejo's paints. You'd use one of those fine cloth mesh dealies. I don't know where you'd get them though since I never had to get one. O.o lol
Wow I really liked how that pre-shading technique worked. Just got all my airbrush stuff finally so time to start playing and practicing. Will certainly be trying out that technique!
intressting tutorial... when i used airbrush i never did shading an highlighting like this
i usually did a two layer thing with primeing it in green and then sprinkeling it (if thats the right way to say it) with lighter green so some area would not be hit (so i was spraying on for the side angel. Also i used masking a lot.
have you tryed doing the pre-shading with ink-washes instead? or does the airbrush paint not hold well on it?
@RetributionAngel LOL! You're welcome! :) I've never tried to shade with ink washes before though I should give it a try and see what I can do with it.
wow the effect the preshading does is amazing, have to try this out sometime! It's almost the same effect as a wash, but with absolute control over the transition.
what airbrush do you use? I just cant get thin panel lines with my Talon...
