  • what airbrush do you use? I just cant get thin panel lines with my Talon...

  • I don't use an air brush but checked out the video anyway. 1) You're really handy with that air brush 2) the techniques are radically different 3) The end result looks really nice.

It has a very natural look to it which is something I've always like about air brushing. Thanks for the vid.

  • nice vid. You need to get some dry pastel weathering on that...looks good though.

  • nice video im only a beginner in that kind of hobby,i see it advance hehe nice vid I see more inspiration on it

  • Excellent video, very thorough. I like the pre-shading and I learn more from watching people like you than I ever have from any book or article. Thanks for the tips!

  • hi, can u give me advice on what type of airbrush to buy for a novice and what sort of models to start off with, thanks

  • Thank you for this video. I have only heard about the pre/post shading technique but I had not seen it. I was very impressed. Keep up the great work.

  • Hi, this is an amazing affect, but I have a question, I collect a soviet themed IG army and have a showcase project on a vehicle, how would you adjust this technique for a camoflage scheme (2 colour and a light underbelly of a flier)

  • What kind of ventilation do you have going on? And do you wear a mask?

  • What do you use for measuring out 'parts' when mixing stuff?

  • Ugh, I hate Model Colour I can never get it to spray right. Have to tried model air? I was thinking of picking those up instead.

  • epic!!! totally pro, good work sir.

  • Hey Dude!

You really inspired me with your video tutorials and I think you are doing a great job! Thank you so much! Since I got back into Miniature gaming and since I saw your videos I just had to get an Airbrush and I think one can achive amazing effects with it! I'm loving it!

Anyway, I have a simple Question: When you say you thin your paint 1:20 does it mean 1 drop paint + 20 drops thinner medium (cleaner+thinner)? I did it the other way around and I can barely see the preshading...THANKS!

  • @flipor Thank you so much, all the best from Germany and keep doing your great Tutorials! Cheers, phil

  • @flipor 1:20 is 1 part paint, 20 parts thinner :)

  • @SMConsortium I guess that explains why it was so hard to get an even AND thin layer of my basecolor over the preshading work...i did roughly 20parts paint and 5 parts thinner....Thanks for the quick reply and thank you again for the amazing work you're doing!

peace from germany and i keep recommending your videos :)

  • I'm pretty sure this is the 5th time I've watched this.

  • haha ace im subscribed as just about to start a wolf army myself thanks for these vids man!

  • amazing video, im gonna test on a shitty gundam model from 1991 before doin theis to my burning gundam HGFC.

  • Great vid there =O)

  • what does psi stand for ?

  • @Callis57 Pound Per Square Inch

  • Wow man I You've got a lot of talent, I've been playing 40k for a while now and I'm just getting a airbrush soon and I really like the pre and post shading techniques you used.

  • Fantastic!

With some chipping and some oil washes this will look ace!

I'm practising pre-shading myself right now and it's damn tricky, mostly because I'm a novice when it comes to airbrushing.

    Experiencing a lot of tipdry.

    Your videos help a lot!

  • Truly good work.

  • wow i think you paint great. ;),

Also i got an airbrush today because it's my bday.

and i noticed it's the same one as you'rs. :P

  • I would not suggest using windex. It is silicone based (if I am not mistaken) silicone will cause fish eyes (painting term). Long story short all bad for paint and airbrush.

  • ur fucking weird but in a badass way i like your vids you do and i subscibe to u! im trying to buy some warhammer 40k armys so i can play!

  • @keeko301 Haha thanks!

  • You made me buy airbrush.

  • I have a question, as I can't afford an Air Brush i'm forced to paint with a Regular Brush which leaves terrible streak lines, any tips for this ?

  • @Slixer Dilute the paint more and do more layers.

  • Great video! where is part 2??

  • @DustinTL09 Still in post. I'm tying to figure if I want to show it again with another model using just the base coat and post shading technique. Showing ya how to do it another way. Might as well. I have 2 more rhino's to paint lol

  • Got here through Lester's channel...

Very cool stuff man, the pre-shading was something I've heard of but never looked into....Gonna try that on some of my props.

    Cool vids...consider me subscribed.

  • I wonder if this technique would work in reverse...Like pre-highlight with white and paint your darker color lightly over that....? I must try.

  • @Darthburn Dunno, I never tried! :) Try it and film it dood!

  • fantastic!!!

  • WOW, great video!!! This makes me wanna get my own air brush even more, when i got one... u will be my master.... muahahaha...

  • @kushairi Pffft... I am a master of no one, just a master of myself... Makes for really odd conversations with myself though. I can never figure out if the student have surpassed the master or if the master is still the master.

  • @WGConsortium

Then maybe the term Sensei, fit better?

I personally love this kind of 'tutorial', great tips, and excellent advise.

Thank you for being one of many teachers, and students of the WG hobby.

    *bows to Sensei DK

  • @coldridge4665 OH! How about Master DK? Check it out on my other channel SMConsortium. Check out the vid called "Zen Modeling: The Clacked Canopy"

  • Really cool demo, thanks.

  • @Eesoteric43 You are very welcome! :)

  • I just picked up my first airbrush last week. I haven't had a chance to start using it yet though. This video is a huge point in the right direction. Thanks for the upload!

  • @TheBustinchops Great! I hope it really helps you out!

  • Really good vid buddy!

  • @Generalsplatton Thanks!

  • Outstanding video, The shout out cracked me up...I already subsribe to RA so I am safe.

  • @MechSpaceWolf Good! You're one of the lucky ones... the others... not so lucky.

  • It always freeks me out how good you, Les and a few other can get that much detail with the air brush. awsome job dude! You have some mad skills!!!!!

  • @Natakue Thanks but really, it's all about just practicing and getting used to using it. :)

  • Somehow I always thought that when painting with an airbrush one would paint stuff faster. Now that I've looked into it more it seems that it also can take as long as with a regular brush. Great work and good tips if I'll ever end up grabbing an airbrush.

  • @LordDestruction Yes and no. Depends on the technique. Same as the brush. Some technique take longer, some you can just do in mere minutes. It would be faster if you skipped the pre-shading part and just base coat and then shade in the dark color then the light color. I switch often between an airbrush and a regular brush. There's just some things you can and can't do with either or. At least for me.

  • Great video thanks . Nice to see you putting into action all the previous vids on airbrushing to use . It brings all you taught us into focus . Thanks my friend . All the best seasons greatings .

  • @TheSeasonman1 Thanks and happy holidays!

  • great tut. the outro was ace also

  • @OrcPainterNerd Thanks!

  • Cool work, I cant wait for the next episode of Free Willy. Oops sorry the next episode of how to paint a spacewolf rhino!

  • @Catachan1brainleaf Yeh totally, especially if you weather heavy like I do, it starts covering most of it but it's those spots that shows through that adds to the model as a whole.

  • Love your humour dude.

  • @timothemad haha thanks

  • Very well done. Because of you and Les I just bought a new airbrush. Thanks for the awesome tips. I can see your channel is going to blow up.

  • @Shiznaft1 Glad to hear that! :) I hope it helps ya out and let me know if you gots any questions!

  • @WGConsortium awesome thanks. I am gonna hit you with one right away then...LOL.

I have heard people talk about screening paint prior to putting it in the airbrush cup. I was wondering what does one use to screen the paint, and do you find this to be a necessary and useful technique. Thanks for offering your wisdom.

  • @Shiznaft1 I never found the need to with tamiya or vallejo's paints. You'd use one of those fine cloth mesh dealies. I don't know where you'd get them though since I never had to get one. O.o lol

  • nice tutorial

  • @GirlPainting Thank you.

  • Dats Purdy.

  • @Darthburn No man, you're purdy! Who love ya baby?

  • This was very helpful. thanks a ton! I am actually anxious to start trying to use an airbrush now.

  • @NavyRadman Right on! Let me know if you'd need help!

  • I have always wanted to airbrush but this vid makes me really itch to try out. Awesome techniques dude. Cool shoutout at the end too.

  • @minitzonthesun It's Very Very fun to say the least :) It's a new world of painting when you get into it. It worth it if not just for that. :)

  • Hey. I just got back from the bathroom. I made many noises just like that while I was making poopies.

  • @PaintwithTrash Did you use King Kong to help with that?

  • That is freakin awesome man

  • @BALD8BIL Thanks!

  • Wow I really liked how that pre-shading technique worked. Just got all my airbrush stuff finally so time to start playing and practicing. Will certainly be trying out that technique!

  • @VividAdventures2010 It save some times and you can play with it to get various effects.

  • You're a silly, silly man.. and you make awesome videos. I'm glad i have somewhere to go to get info on how to airbrush better. Thanks man!

  • @beanofdoom42 NP! :) I'm a goofball by nature. lol

  • looks good but honestly i dont think that the pre shadeing that you do comes out that well

  • @Warpetrie Sorry about that but thanks for watching never the less. I'll try and do better next time. :)

  • The last few seconds of the video will scar me for life.

  • @1337DrGonzo I'm sorry :(

  • @WGConsortium I've had therapy and I should recover in the next few years, I guess I can forgive you. :)

  • @1337DrGonzo LOL! Well good. I hope the therapist was cute at least!

  • Wow great tutorial! When did you get so hilarious! :D

  • @asjarra I was born funny! All the doctor laughed when I popped out... however, I don't think it's the good laughter. ;)

  • This makes me wish I had a airbrush and knew had touse it.

  • @countdomar Get one and learn! :)

  • Great vid! Man I need an airbrush!

Have a great time on the run up to New Year!

    Take care man!

  • @YeahMF Thanks and you too bro!

  • LOL :D thx for that crazy shoutout ^^

intressting tutorial... when i used airbrush i never did shading an highlighting like this

i usually did a two layer thing with primeing it in green and then sprinkeling it (if thats the right way to say it) with lighter green so some area would not be hit (so i was spraying on for the side angel. Also i used masking a lot.

have you tryed doing the pre-shading with ink-washes instead? or does the airbrush paint not hold well on it?

  • @RetributionAngel LOL! You're welcome! :) I've never tried to shade with ink washes before though I should give it a try and see what I can do with it.

  • Yo! Awesome tutorial, so glad I found your channel via APJ-Les. Keep those videos coming!

  • @XV800 Thank you for watching! :)

  • Thanks for doing this video. I'm glad to see scale modeling techniques being used

more and more by the wargaming community. Painting at the minature scale with

an airbrush is becoming popular, I for one really enjoy using an airbrush to paint

    minis.

  • @texastony1946 Thanks! coming from scale modeling, it's fun to try new stuff.

  • wow the effect the preshading does is amazing, have to try this out sometime! It's almost the same effect as a wash, but with absolute control over the transition.

  • @WLPKalenov Glad you enjoyed! :)

  • Awesome stuff man.

  • @gameking500 Thanks!

  • Very Nice!

  • @awesomepaintjob Danke!
