your video actually helped me all the way. I kept thinking and think hard. then i realize emo follows me. There's this kid in my class who labeled me " emo" It freaking hurts o-o just beacuse i wear black and i have sidebangs doesn't mean I'm emo. I mean there's even this kid you said " Hey.. you're not wearing black..." I'm fricken cold! Plus I dont have any undershirts to wear under a white shirt.
i see exactly what you mean in this video... but my family always restrict me from buying the things i want for example if i pick out a boys shirt they go " your a young girl you can't where that" and in my opinion gender doesn't matter. what should i do if the people around me don't let me be me?
Different labels are just made by ppl who can't live with the fact there are things you can't lable in this world. I would call myself tomboy but I like to have a mix of styles, and some people just can't live with the fact that I want to be myself, and that makes me feel insecure. Thanx for making video's. They make me believe in myself again.
I really agree to everything you say in this vid.. To some ppl, labels are everything and I hate the way they just look at someone once and go like '' oh, yeah she's defienetely emo etc " and after that' it's really hard to get rid of that label. It can really make you think like "Oh, maybe I am, if they say so" even tho it shouldn't be that way. T___T Then they lose their personality and really become what ppl label 'em to be .. Maybe one day ppl dare to be just theirselves ...
@xlauraisonfire Very well said. I know many people in the world stick on a label and use that to justify the lack of need to actually get to know that person, simply due to "oh they're gay" or "oh they're goth" or whatever, which are labels they dislike, they throw out the possibility of actually getting to know them as a person. It's sad.
Most teens are too afraid to be themselves because they want to be part of their group of friends, which results in conformity. Something I think you should have touched on was people cognitively being themselves as well. Many people hide behind plastic smiles and allow others around them to tell them how to think. This again comes back to conformity which makes them act how their friends act. I'm finding more people aren't who they are and just let others influence them. Loving the hair btw. :P
@TheBramblestar I shall cover that in a future video actually...which I also planned on singing in...and a lot of video editing. THE THINGS I DO FOR YOU PEOPLE.
AND OVER 9000! And then I lowered it to 6000. AND YOU GUYS STILL DIDN'T GET THERE D:<
@pokeeuge We did get it, I'm gonna ask Mac for the screenshot as proof and rub it in your face! You'll see, you'll all see! Also you singing=Me with a very happy face. :D
I really like this video. It speaks the truth. However, I have to point out that it conflicts with one of your videos from long ago. I think it's called "What are tomboys?" You basically describe what a "real" tomboy is, and how a person can actually fit into that label and who isn't an actual tomboy. You seem to have really matured since then. Awesome video. ^-^
@xRupusx Lol yeah it's been a long time...as far as I remember, I made that to tell people what tomboys are instead of having people say "boy" lol. Ah well. Thanks for remembering :]
i think a lot of teenagers understand that being yourself is important and they want to be themselves, but they're too scared to get hurt from the society's reaction to being themselves so by being someone else, i think they shield themselves from being hurt.
@PandyPuff A lot of people do that, but that's the fault in the thought. It's a cycle that will continue unto them and the future people who feel like them. That's why people stand up and fight, and some people sacrifice.
Alike the years of segregation, the fact that Caucasian people dated Colored people was completely blasphemous and highly discriminated against. Marriage and their children alike. We have to learn to fight. It's not going to be easy, but no one is ever alone.
“Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.” -Oscar Wilde
This was the first thing that came to my mind after a few seconds into your video. I had some troubles as well finding my comfort in my physical appearance. I went through some stages and I'm happy now. I'm comfortable with short hair, in woman and unisex clothing. :)
I guess me being a tomboy doesn't come as natural as you, yeah, I love pants and hate dresses, but growing up in HK made wearing a dress necessary(school uniform lol), plus with my mum wants me to be a 'girl', since young she loves playing with my crazy long hair, and she suggested girly stuffs right when I reach puberty, I went into a panic with the hormones, now it became confusing :S I only think "in what do I feel more confident?" with an attitude to try everything before I settle down now.
i love tomboys. in general, i think they've more integrity, uniqueness & humility than their "girly" counter-parts. they think more freely, are more articulate & have a stronger social conscience. they seem more comfortable with the idea of "natural" beauty (which so many non-TB's errantly think they don't possess). i hope hetero-female-kind evolves to a more tomboy-like model. speaking for the guys, we could use more stimulation to the brain... not just the penis.
@vxqqqq Some tomboys have NO humility lol. It really just depends on the person.
I'm guessing what I'm hoping for isn't so much that hetero-female-kind evolve in to a more tomboy-like model, more so that HFK can grow to feel better about themselves, more so than how to feel better by how society feels about them.
Thank you! Finally someone says it. Yes I am a 'tomboy' always have been but i've had people question me in that way aswell and even some who assumed I was in a 'phase' Its bloody annoying trying to be who you are because its what makes you most comfortable and have people say its 'Not right' and stuff. I'm happy you made a be yourself video because to many people follow fashion trends like sheep. So once again, thank you!
@pokeeuge I know! x.x Usually when people tell me stuff like its just a phase, thate just fires me up and makes me go further. Admittedly I didn't cut my hair until the 'phase' was used. (I had hated my long hair before though, so it wasn't just to prove them wrong.) xD It was sorta a 'What now, bitch?' moment. Mhmm..Only to parents so less..Gangsta sounding.
some people dress in what's 'in' just because it's 'in' and I'd like to tell them, "don't give a shit about what other people dress like, just do what you think is comfortable for yourself"
i hate how t.v., magazines, and other crap say that 'this' is what is 'in' right now and it's what people are wearing right now. sure, there may be a cool fad that you like, but don't give a shit about it if it doesn't suit you
@TearsofOak i agree with you :) i could be wrong, but i think the less TV (aka the "boob tube") that we watch and the fewer magazines that we read, the better off our human race will be.
@vxqqqq lol boob-tube? you are right, the less media there is, the less we would care about useless things. humans could then focus more on the important things of life
@TearsofOak You have to consider the internet being a very heavy impact on the "in" phase stuff.
I believe media is also a double-ended-blade. On one hand, you have the useless bullshit that there is all around, and on the other, there are actually very useful things. You just gotta take em and decipher what's of use to you and what isn't.
Behaviorally I fit into the term tomboy and what I like etc. I look how I want and I always look different. I've had people ask me if I'm goth. I wear different clothes all the time, but I don't mind standing out. I'm out to show that people don't have to hide in the shadows or try to stand out, just be who they are. I'm glad that someone else understands.
@KaeFive what does my comment have anything to do with that? i find it very fitting for this video. perhaps you are the one who's misunderstanding the video. the criteria part describes how euge sees herself and what identifies a 'her'. my comment describes how you need to be comfortable with yourself and not make yourself fit the criteria of the majority. keep idiotic comments to yourself
@TearsofOak Are you retarded? She said something along the lines that each person fits into their own critiera, that does't mean that every tomboy in the world is a clone who wears boy clothes and short hair, nor does it mean that your fail of a judgement that all tomgirls in the world wear dresses. Maybe YOU should keep YOUR idiotic comments to YOURself.
@KaeFive Calm down you two, you two are repeating the same concept, just applying it differently lol.
I guess the best way to resolve this is to just describe yourself better, if possible, instead of simply saying "tomgirl" and "tomboy", and not to simply put out on criteria for said statement.
P.S. Tomgirls are girls who dress unisex like, instead of very straight on guyish. Their style is a mix of both guy/girl-like clothing. :P
@KaeFive Did I say anything about what was included in your comment? No.
I have said this, everyone should be comfortable with what they wear, and not fit society's criteria. There are criterias for yourselves ,and there are criterias that society makes. You should pa attention to what I'm saying. It's like you're oblivious to the things I am trying to point out, and you are only open to the things you find favorable to yourself. Now, shut the fuck up, I'm not going to reply to retarded idiots
I think to some people this is not so obvious because they don't know who they want to be. There was probably a time for all of us where we tried out different styles but they just didn't feel right.
@1aaronaaron1 Agreed. Which was why I said that, sometimes, you just gotta stop chasing what you think/what other people think is right, and just sit down and think to yourself, "Where am I running to" instead of simply constantly running.
