@moleboythedrummer100 ok...bob marley's album "Legend" is one of my favorites...If you like motown try the Isley Brothers album "Go For Your Guns"...if you want to check them out on Youtube try their singles "Footsteps in the Dark" and "Voyage to Atlantis"
@moleboythedrummer100 You'd be surprised how older music is picking up steam in popularity. When I was a teen in the 90s, it was COMPLETELY uncool to like oldies, but I liked old music (20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, some 70s) anyway, so I know where you're coming from.
I have heard a version of this song which is very similar but is even more funky and even better. It was on a french radiochannel in 1987 so it is older than that. I would really appreciate if you could send me the link if you know what I mean. Thank you sooo much:)
People think that rap artists only copy other peoples work. And that's true. But as with this song, they have managed to put the finger on what it is that makes the Clapton cover so great, and sampled only that small part. So there is also talent involved.
From what I've learned, Bob Marley got his breakthrough thanks to Eric Clapton doing a cover of this song. Also the rap group EPMD had their break through hit with a tune based on samples from Eric Claptons cover.
@EZIOTHEMASTER I dunno, I don't find EC's version boring, but I would agree it wasn't one of his best works. It's always shocked me that this is EC's only number 1 hit according to Billboard Magazine's HOT 100 charts (but of course some artist haven't had one of those such as the Kinks, the Yardbirds {w/out EC}, Led Zeppelin, etc.) -- I would have either picked one of the songs of Cream or "Layla" as EC's only number 1.
Believe in the unbelievable. Go to my website link on my YouTube channel and log on to hear my stuff. EC's band then were Albert Lee, Gary Brooker, Dave Markee, Chris Stainton and Henry Spinetti. All first class stuff. After my spot I used to watch EC play from the side of the stage. Awesome.
My name's Fran Raya and I'm a female singer/songwriter from the UK. I was invited to support Eric Clapton on one of his Scandinavian tours performing my own songs. It was an amazing experience. This song brings it all back and I'm so proud to have toured with him.
What a pleasant memory jolt. Clapton's version of this song always reminds me of one of my absolute favorite summers (1974). I spent it at the beach, with the radio always on.
wtf u on drugs lol fine watever man ur entitled to opinion theres lots a covers i say are better than the original so i guess its only fair if u think so still
well this is technically superior (clarity, every little detail counts w/ significance) - clapton's a revered muso for good reason. marley's version is haunting because he placed life/"message" above music: he makes instant connection with even people very different from the guy in the story, about the pathos of despair, the "grit" of reality and point of vu -- from a man's daily life conditions that used to be (!) less publicized in media. less EI of a fugitive here, but high artistry of craft.
@jdw1066 Mmm, not sure. Different from, yeah, better than, maybe not. For Bob Marley, this song was not just some cowboy fantasy. Jamaica in the 60s and 70s and 80s was riddled with gang warfare and gun crime and indeed Marley himself got shot; Peter Tosh, his old bandmate, was shot dead. For Clapton, this is just a rich white rock star dabbling in reggae. I like this, but it's more throwaway than the Wailers' version. But then I don't much like Clapton's output between 1968 and 2003 or so.

@divineonenl Well Bob Marley is better at reggae but Eric Clapton puts a bit of a rock blues spin on it with his guitar playing.
