  • the old market was a lot nicer and it was for lebanese residents .The new one has no life solidair and hariri stole our old markets.who needs this dead market .

  • Too bad now everything is triple priced there because of solidere (thiefs)...back then it was full of lebanese of all classes.. now only the very priviledged and the khalijis with their backward mindset shop there

  • its actually very incredible .... since they rebuilt it in a new stylish way ... and i say to the people who don't admire the builder of beirut souks to set aside and don't say a foolish words .... and thanks to solidere ... and who said tha beirut for us is wrong beirut for all good and lovely lebanese people who helped in rebuilding beirut souks .. and god bless them ..

  • Ok, let me put it even more...if I was shopping to lease a place...I just saw traffic. Wouldn't pay for it. souk area is dead. I go where traffic is.

  • Today, Souk area looks DEAD! More life back then. sorry to say that, but I wouldn't shop there.

  • actually I felt that some body stole our dreams to restore our beirut and destroyed our hope in repairing not rebuilding old beirut>because Beirute is for us and we did not ask any body -any body-to rebuild a new beirute .No thanks for the new theaft of beirut.

  • I don't like it. Why does the whole world have to look like an American mall?

  • old and new its not compairable look at the faces of your people there ,old time reach people lived with poor ,muslims also with the christians in peace .ther is no turning back lebanon never will find her old fame an proudness take a look at 0:43 ...by from an old lebaneese lover thank you.

  • @chiefjian The Lebanese are the same, geopolitics forced our country to change. We wish we have Denmark and Sweden as neighbours instead...

  • Solidere killed Beirut

  • samen ken a7laa :-(

  • now i am starting to hate to look at videos about lebanon or beirut, because of the irrelevant comments on them ... GET OVER IT!!

  • I thought Dubai was THE mid east city

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa Lebanon is considered more Mediterranean rather than middle eastern

  • @mima1234561

It has Arabs and Islam and no guidos so That (in my mind at least) makes it middle eastern

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa its not what in your mind ,its what the country about ,Lebanon in past was mainly a christian ,now its multicultural society , were more than 19 different religious sects . its not a muslim country.

  • @mima1234561 It never was mostly christian. Maybe for 1500 years ago. In modern history, The dominating christian belief ( maronites) came from Syria, and close to the independence of Lebanon in the 40s a lot of "syrian" christians got the offer to get Lebanese citizenship, which they accepted of course. Thats how it suddenly became more christians than muslims.

I love all sects, but please dont try to turn it in somebodies favour..

  • @wlekeee yes Lebanon was mainly Christian ( more than 85 % ), Christiansen were the real face of advanced Lebanon ,in the health field ,education ,art and music .............. AND THAT IS A FACT .

  • @mima1234561 There is no such fact. Religion belonging does not tell us who is more educated or not.The area called "bigger Syria" has always been more advanced than its surroundings. It does not have anything to do with religion.

I mean, can you answer me why the christians in Lebanon are more educated than the christians in for example Romania?

Can you answer me why the "muslims" in Lebanon are more educated than the muslims in for example Morocco?

I withold to my previous comment:-)

  • Thanks for your polite reply...Dont worry, be happy! Future is hopeful and bright for the humankind i hope..

  • Wasnt Lebanon a muslim country!?

  • @muhacir08 it was 70% christian - 30% muslim before the civil war... now it's 80% muslim - 20% christian und das ist nicht sehr gut.

  • @peteykh hvorfur er det ikke godt?how can you be confident about the goodness?your idea of `good` may not be the real good.or your idea of bad may be the good.who knows!!islam is a religion which can be accepted just volunteerly.look at history.you cannot find any example of making people muslim by oppressing them.remember Istanbul and Bosnia H.and Anatolia..if they accepted being muslim volunteerly, knowingly, its their choice and its their idea of good which might be your idea of bad, dear friend

  • @peteykh and my reply wasnt for discuss or quarrel. i just wanted to inform you friendly...if you have sth good to say you can reply me, but if you have sth negative, please dont reply me dear christian brother or sister....have a nice day

  • @muhacir08 you're right, and my comment was purely a personal opinion. all i know is it's hard to see what's good in many middle east countries these days. i just don't want to see Lebanon crowning a "king" anytime soon.

  • @peteykh Before the war it was 55% Christian and 45% Muslim now it’s (according to ministry figures) its 40% Christian and 59% Muslim 1% mixed

  • @cogitoergosumish thanx 4 kind info.

  • @peteykh Before the war it was 55% Christian and 45% Muslim now it’s (according to ministry figures) its 40% Christian and 59% Muslim 1% mixed (just relaying some facts people its not for argumet)

  • @cogitoergosumish That's a very generous split. Every source online says something different. Maybe the Christian population is making a comeback... inshallah.

  • @peteykh

    Ehh

It may have a large christian population (which is good) it's culture is mostly decended from the caliphate

  • you don't feel like you're in the outdoors, looks like another mall. It could have been designed differently with more open space

  • i cant wait to visit these souks they're amazing

  • the days that i was young,exelente!!!!

  • For the people that say beirut is losing it's spirit...

or it is build for the rich, this might be so, but for now it is new, few years from now it well also gett old and a spirit. every thing new hasn't any spirit, it has to grow to gain spirit. besides people get inspired by these good looking buildings. be positive and get inspired instead of being negative

  • this is not beirut any more maybe paris or london , this not 4 our people this not souks this not real beirut we like just place 4 rich to be honset nothing sp in this cos our real beirut has gone

  • @ you people should stop moaning ,is it only rich people go to a new mall ?? ,Beirut always been the city for the new ,and the trend to the newest fashionable exciting ideas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! be positive

  • @1977zizo Some information for the uninformed! The old Beirut Souks were destroyed in 1975 during the civil war (not by Solidere) most of the life fabric of Beirut was destroyed. This is the new Beirut its here to stay & nothing can be done about it. Just remember it fondly (for those who can) and im sure the new Souks will make a new sprit for generations to come.

  • gameel moot...greatings from egypt ^^

  • tiniaaaaaa ..... good job girl :)

imagine that i left lebanon and haven't visited the new souk :(

LB4LIFE85, the souk is in Beirut downtown, on your way to starco on ur right. you can't miss it!

  • in what area is the new souk located in beirut? I want to visit the location when i go visit.

  • @LB4LIFE85 in majidiyeh... the main entrance is weygand street

  • Looking at the old and the new souk, Beirut has regrettably lost some of its vibrant spirit.
