  • Guitar type/ pick-ups/amp/distortion pedal, nah that doesn't effect sound, pro

  • Think I could get a sound close to Hum with this? I'm thinking of getting the M-234 because...I just don't like the paint job on this one and it's cheaper in blue.

  • @fullmetalfunk cheaper? I bought the Black label for 65, while the blue are selling for 100

  • @fullmetalfunk Blue one is more expensive now ...

  • @astro2069 Guess the figured out people would pay more for a pedal with no graphics on it. I was looking at the M-234 but I found an analog Boss CE-5 and bought it instead. I still might pick up a MXR Micro Chorus though.

  • Does Zakk ACTUALLY use the black label chorus?

  • @ZakkWyldefan1000 yeah look up his gear tour on youtube.

  • @ZakkWyldefan1000 Zakk , unlike a lot of musicians, plays everything he endorses. He even plays his signature epiphone guitars live at almost every gig!

  • 5:24 epic outro is fucking epic.

  • what was used for distorted sounds? pedal or amp?

  • no doubt mxr makes the best pedals. Ive notice they're quickly are taking over my pedal board.

  • It's so funny. After 20 yrs of playing I'm only now realizing how many of my fav guitarists use chorus heavily. Early on I believed a couple of my heroes when they said they never really used "much" effects. Then you see their pedal board...bullshit you don't!!! Anyhow..time for a chorus pedal.

  • @gtarluva LOL..so true that many guitar heros have used the chorus of phase in their sound...

I like a chourus pedal over anything else when it comes to coloring because unlike a phase or flager it can actually be left on all the time with sutle differance in tone coloring...I use it at the end of the pedal chain...It fattens up the sound.

If your thinking of getting one check out the MXR analog vs this one...both are great but this one is just a tab bit differant. I own the blue MXR

  • @JBL8863 Both pedals are the same circuit ... just a different paint job.

  • When I need new sounds to get outta this pedal and I dont wanna write it down, I just watch this video.

  • could you plug an 18V into this for increased headroom? or would that mess it up?

  • @fasionroadkill Don't think I'd want to try it. Probably OK for some OD Pedals but never heard of a Chorus having multiple power options.

  • This is really Flangey.

  • Blood is thicker than water!

  • @Guitargawd13 Yeah! at 1:40

  • wich PU´s you use?

  • Is this basically the same pedal as the M-234 analog chorus in a different enclosure?

  • @miamigroove Other way around.

  • @AlexSongDoesCovers So MXR made this pedal first, then put it in a different box and sell it as the M-234?

  • @fullmetalfunk Yes.

  • @miamigroove Almost, but it's totally re-wired to Zakk's specs.

  • What's the difference between this and my Boss CE-5 I have(besides true bypass)? I'm trying to see if it's worth switching

  • @InterspeciesErotica7 the black label chorus provides a warmer distortion for both distortion and a clean tone when a boss ce-5 just gives a warm tone to the clean sound and doesnt work as well for chorus but thats just my opinion

  • @InterspeciesErotica7

The CE5 is digital. The capabilities are quite similar other than this.

  • I wish you would switch to the neck pickup for the clean tones.

  • Is this video demo with the BLC in front the amp, or in the loop (post gain)? Sounds great! I'm just curious how this is being run. Thanks.

  • @f2kflyer - Straight in the front. We never use an effects loop for demos. Thanks!

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Thanks!

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos i have this pedal and run it through the loop, but most of the demo's on ytube run it straight into the front, and seem to sound much better!! i'm gonna try it in front tonight, but has anyone here got any opinions on the difference between pre and post for this pedal?? or what the pro's and cons are (i'm fairly new to Chorus)

  • @locolegsharvey If your using a tube amp I'd advise you not to crank up the pedals gain level it might blow your drivers.

You might blow up your tube amp doing this. Any sort of volume increase from a stomp pedal running through the back of the effects loop is asking for serious issues. The effect's loop in the back of a tube amp cuts between the pre amp and power tubes.

If your using a non tube amp by all means go for it...It won't do any damage.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos You guys need like a rule sheet for your demos so 10000 people stop asking that. I always run my effects into the front and I'm never unsatisfied. thanks for the great demos PGS

  • Dear Pro Guitar Shop

Would you please do a video of the new Zakk Wylde Phaser :)

And the new, updated version of the ZW Overdrive (if it aint the same)

  • 13 years of grief ftw

  • I’ve been using this chorus for a few months and really like it. It really thickens out distorted tones. It can be in your face when running direct or subtle through the effects loop. I prefer the subtle approach for just adding texture. I have a few fancy boutique chorus padels that sound great when playing clean. But none of them look as cool as the Black Label!

  • Utterly decimates the other "chorus" pedals.

  • Is this pedal really tru-bypass? I thought it was buffered. I'm on the hunt for a good chorus pedal, so if you could answer my question, It wound narrow my search and help me a lot. Thank you, Andy and PGTS for all these demos.

  • dam, now i got to get one.

  • Dam andy's demos are the best.

  • So what are the differences between this and MXR's stereo chorus?

  • I have this pedal and i have to say you'll never hear a chorus like that a second time in your life! it is waaay better than the Small Clone! You can make your own tone however you want it! my best pedal i have!

  • how much do these cost? i'm yet to see one on sale in a shop or online, and since i love Zakk and BLS i would love combine it with my ZW-44 OD pedal

  • what's that at 3:53 ?

  • The tone at 1:50 would fit 100% to "Blood Is Thicker Than Water"

  • This dude has THE BEST job in the world. He gets paid to fuck around on expensive guitars and pedals. How awesome is that?

  • Diggin the 13 years of grief in the intro!

  • zakk wylde has awesome pedals out there! not only for metal.. if you use this pedals in any other music style they also work great!

  • I fail to see why this guy is admired so much

  • @graemegwoodman Then go watch other videos. Andy probably plays better than you.

  • Gearmandude would stomp Andy's Butt! GMD has the boots bro! Andy prolly wears converse

  • Whats the difference between this and the MXR Stereo Chorus?

  • How is this compared to the MXR Stereo chorus, i think they sound the same but this one is cheaper.

  • hats off to the zakk wylde impression at the beginning lol

  • Thick is blooder than water

  • At last....somenone who knows what song fits best in each demo!!!!

    Well done Andy...

  • Pretty sound

  • I've noticed many analog chorus pedals change your volume when you turn them on and off - and it's most noticeable when you use chorus after distortion. Does this pedal boost/cut volume at all?

  • @alienspeedmetal Chorus is really supposed to be run thru your effects loop in your amp.

  • Is there a cheap version of this?

  • this is a great pedal i wish zakks overdrive pedal was better though

  • Andy man how long does it take to dial in those tones? I mean I would be fooling around for hours trying to get some of the tones you come up with. Andy you are a credit to your people.

  • Whats that song at 2:50?

  • can anyone name all of the songs in this vid? please? :)

  • @GoatRocker95182 13 years of grief - BLS

    br F

  • Heck, I was waiting for Andy to launch into 'Good Girls Gone Bad' for a moment there...

  • Hey Andy i´ve got a question about this pedal.

I was experementing with this pedal alot and in my opinion its def. not "true bypass". When i put it (switched off) in front of my amp i cant tell the differents between my les paul guitars they all sound equal. Right after that i put it in my fx loop and it then the pedal darkens the sound of my amp. Just by switching the fx loop on and off you can tell the huge loss of treb. frequencys. Is it just my peadle or is it the hole series? BR Felix

  • oh and can you power it with a 1 spot?

    Thanks again

  • hi Andy, great demos as always. Quick question about this pedal, can you hear the loud pop when engaging the pedal or is it silent true bypass? my chorus has true bypass and it's just too loud when I step on it, and if I have the delay on it sounds like fireworks on 4th of July....

    Thank you!

  • Is this basically a smaller MXR Stereo Chorus with Wylde's graphics?

  • @RockaRollaZombie yeah pretty much. its a great find saves like 200 bucks and its near the same quality

  • 13 years of grief!

  • The LED is so bright on this thing, I nearly blinded myself the first time I turned it on.

  • abit of chorus is a GREAT way to thicken up distorted guitar tones

  • I hate how MXR always place the input jack to the side of the pedals. It's always in the way.

  • Just wanted to let you guys know that I regularly watch Pro Guitar Shop vids here on youtube and I never miss a one! Andy always does it right!!

  • @garydupuis - Thanks for watching!

    -PGS Video Crew

  • should i buy this one or tha boss super chorus?

  • is that a chip in the paint work, or mxr's relicing?

  • bypass : buffer

  • if i use this with mxr fullbore metal, will it sound nice?

  • Andy Rocks

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos what amp/distortion are you using with the les paul? Also can you do a shootout between the black label chorus and the small clone? Im thinking the black label will blow the clone away but it would still be nice to see a comparison since the clone is the 'industry standard'. Thanks much and keep these great demos coming! :)

  • @johnnysitarphillips - Blackstar HT-Dist distortion pedal. Thanks for watching!

    -PGS Crew

  • Hey i am planing getting some pedals to my pedal board, i play almost everything in the rock genre. I play Les Paul. if some of these pedals are good or bad, then answer me please.

Tubescreamer or Vox Satchurator Vox Timemachine delay or MXR Carbon copy delay Boss FRV-1 fender reverb Boss CE-5 chorus or MXR black label chorus

  • @Runelaier What i use is Vox Satchurator, MXR Carbon Copy and for chorus sounds i use mxr phase 90. But check Nova repeater from TC Electronics ;-)

  • Comment removed

  • @Runelaier

    THIS ONE, buy THIS one.

  • @Runelaier try both

zakk has used both he now uses his signature chorus

  • It is not true bypass....

    It is bufferd!!!

  • @fransonlp

"This is a true bypass analog chorus pedal that is completely vintage in its tone, but thoroughly modern in its abilities."

Quote taken, from Dunlop's official website.

  • @fransonlp the zakk wylde isnt?

  • 13 years of grief ! my fav bls tune! SDMF

  • I like how Andy comments on these videos. Andy, if you read this, you, my man, are epic. Epic like the Mahabharata.

  • @TheMushroomDog - It's only Andy commenting about 50% of the time. Thanks for the props though, I'll pass the epicness along to Andy.

  • this or the mxr stereo chorus ???

  • Does Andy own PGS or is he just an employee?

  • @dbenc - Andy is the king of PGS

employees. He owns, but he's not the

owner, if ya know what I mean.

  • Comment removed

  • @xdux yes

  • @xdux He only mentioned around 20 times. It's easy to understand how you missed it...

  • This or Boss Chorus? because Zack used a boss Chorus before..

  • @ZombieeFromHell this replaced his boss chorus he got it

  • @mikejoanderson

He hasnt used his Boss chorus in years! Before this one he uses a MXR stero chorus

  • @mikejoanderson

He hasnt used his Boss chorus in years! Before this one he uses a MXR stero chorus

  • This. Zakk uses this now and it is true-bypass

  • I heard Andy learned the Crane technique from Daniel-san. Watch out GMD.

  • Whats he playing from 0:11 to 0:32

  • 13 years of grief by BLS

  • 13 Years of Grief by Black Label Society.

  • Thanks

  • 13 years of Grief

  • Black Label Society - 13 Years of Grief

  • Who'd win in a fight, Andy or Gearmanndude?

  • In a fight, gearman dude. But in terms of guitar playing i am not sure man. lol

  • GMD for sure. :D (Am I gonna get clobbered for saying that on a a PGS demo video?) Haha...

  • Andy for sure. He may appear docile, but don't get on his bad side. Andy's got a mean Tiger Style...

  • yeah

    ANDY YOU ROCK

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos no way gearmanndude has the pick of destiny

  • @xRAKDOZx - Andy doesn't even use a pick. He has the Fingers of Destiny.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos and the nails of destiny

  • ANDY

  • andy we love you baby!!

  • @grantsmaldone Gearmandude all the way. but andy is the shit too. don't get me wrong. he kicks ass.

  • @grantsmaldone hmm I don't know, but Gearmanndude's sharp headed boot is very deadly in the lower waist area...

  • @grantsmaldone They would probably look at each other and put their fists down and hall out a guitar and some pedals and have a good ol' guitar showdown.

  • @grantsmaldone hahah good one. Andy for shuuure :)

  • @grantsmaldone Gearmandude!!

  • man, that sounds great.

  • 2:43 - 3:40 totally adam jones

  • whats the dirt pedal in this vid? would really help to gauge with other dists in my brain

  • Blackstar HT-Dist

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos thank you!

  • why can't they just call it, "MXR Chorus" and maybe say that it was made in association with whoever. That would be so great rather than being ashamed by the label.

  • why would you be ashamed?

  • i gotta get one

  • First thing I'd do to this out of the box is put black tape over the "black label" part of it.

  • lol i agree 100% felt the same way bout the wylde overdrive ...i loved that pedal but i HATE zakk...really a shame this pedal is very cool ! its a boss ce-5 with analog parts

  • @Dreamscapevirus Fuck off you too! You hate Zakk... then why the FUCK you buy his signature stuff?!?! I fucking hate Metallica and even if I thought that Kirk hammet's wah is incredible ( I don't think so...it is fucking horrible and I fucking hate it) I wouldnt buy it... BECAUSE I HATE METALLICA and that fucker has something to do with the shitty band I hate!

  • I agree, i dont hate zakk, but im not a fan. i got the wylde overdrive and really loved it, then i was thinking about gettin the wah, but... you know, two zakk wylde pedals? am i a fan or what, and this pedal its actually pretty cool haha, so WTF

  • like guitars come in different colors they should offer the black label chorus in a different skin lol think ill buy it and pray paint it or something lol

  • @alfonsovai the new ibanez wah is awesome.

  • @antifaith82 HAHA im doing the same thing!

  • I dig it, but i just picked up a great deal on the Hardwire series stereo chorus and I'm liking that one a lot...those are great. Have had a tough time finding a chorus that I love...

  • What distortion pedal if any were you using in this demo?

  • Wow, he really does sound like zakk with that schecter

  • I have an EHX Electric Mistress and while I'm pretty happy with the chorus part of it, the flange is a little wanting. This looks like a chorus with more fine tuning possibilities and the demo here sounds real cool. I might have to go check it out.

  • blood is thicker than water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • could you please tell me what guitar and amp was used for scottys demo at the beginning, and also what song and tuning. thanks

  • Fender DRRI and a Schecter Solo 6 Hellraiser

  • Thanks!

  • if a delay repeats the notes, does a chorus just drag out the notes?

  • It makes your signal sound more 'wet' as its called. It sounds like theres more than one guitar playing by slightly varrying the pitch of each added signal. Kind of. :D

  • lo quierooooo jajja

  • wow. a $100 analog chorus pedal with true bypass and super tweak-able controls. Basically a dream come true. So why the hell did they have to slap "Zakk Wylde" stuff all over it???

  • Couldn't agree more

  • @gree17 Because Zakk never met a sponsor he didn't like.

  • @gree17 Agreed. I hate Zakk Wylde. What a tool.

Nice pedal though it is ugly and it sounds terrible with the stupid distortion and cheesey false harmonics. Nice cleans.

    *braces for thumbs down*

  • So why's he a tool then?

  • Because he is a sponsor whore. He'll put his name on anything - crap or not. This is a nice pedal though. It just looks stupid.

  • I can't believe that new Epiphone he's brought out... It looks absolutely horrible.

  • Thank you.

  • @ChucklesMginty The Graveyard Disciple??? Yeh... It's horrible... even Zakk thinks its fucking ugly, but he says that it is really really comfortable to play it

  • @ChucklesMginty yeah its ugly, but in one interview he claims his son came up with the design so he made it in honor of him. he also says its comfortable to play

  • I kinda like it...I thought he used a dif pedal (MXR stereo chourus) But I suppose he had companies comming to him to design his own line.

  • I hate to be a buzz-kill, but doesn't Zakk Wylde use a Boss Super Chorus Ch-1, he also uses a Dunlop Rotovibe to get the lush liquid tone. So why does this pedal even exist? I do not want to upset anyone, but alot of signature pedals tend to be way off the mark, and you can get a Boss CH-1 much cheaper than this pedal. By the way, it was Randy Roads that used a MXR Chorus, not Zakk.
