@tomownzuftw nope it was my gpu. however, getting a another 8600mgt even a used one was like 120+ USD, very pricey. so i basically renewed my warranty with dell lol which was cheaper than the gpu itself. then i sent my comp back and they replaced it for me. they even fixed my mouespad and till today i still have the warranty. it was a smarter move imo.
@Larmour nope it was the gpu. so i had to replace it but getting a used 8600mgt was like $200+ and i have to install it myself so i just renewed my warranty for like 120$ and i sent it back to the DELL depot. they replaced the gpu and replace my faulty mouse :D so it was worth it :D. this was like a year ago :D. however, the new gpu is run very very hot, i think that the 8600m GT on the inspirons 1520 are just faulty by nature.
yes it was the graphics card..i was really hoping it was not the gfx card or mobo cause anything else i can fic myself cheaper. i opened it up and gpu died :(. to buy a old replacement gpu was 200+ dollars, i just decided to renew my warranty, sent it to dell, and they fix everything with replacement gpu. all that cost only 145 bucks. still expensive, but it's was a better alternative to buying a used gpu for $200+ and replacing it myself
i think so too. i;ve been running tests.....but the thing is that even if its the gpu, why don't i get an image during bios boot up? my graphics is dedicated meaning that its separated from my motherboard and images shown during bios boot up come from the MOTHERBOARD. im confused, can you help me?
when my desktop gpu fried it was showing artifacts in the bios. the video memory probably went to hell on your machine..somehow u need to tell ur bios to boot the dedicated graphics, usually does after the dedicated is disconnected.
If it was gpu problems you would see "artifacts" vertical lines and low resolution and bad colors.. Since you said it works with a CRT..it's obviously not the gpu and is your LCD. Its not a GPU driver problem since windows doesnt use it till you boot so the bio would be fine...
I think you answered your own question..it's the LCD screen.
dude funny thing is that when i connected it to a crt screen, i DO SEE VERTICAL LINES AND LOW RESOLUTION. i uninstalled the gfx driver and when i try to reinstalled, the gfx driver does not show up in "dxdiag"....i think my gpu might be deaD. the problem might be BOTH THE GPU AND LCD.....damn.......
AS you can see, when i started the computer, the bios flash screen did not even appear nor did the windows logo. HOWEVER, when i connected it to an external crt monitor via vga cable, it worked.
i had this problem with my acer extensa 5235 i replaced the screen and now its working fine
