I respect him for the breaking of real hardwood board, before the pre-cut board was introduced and used today.
He could break the 2nd or 3rd board without breaking the 1st.
30 years ago in M'sia, a JKA instructor couldn't break 2 hardwood boards at the demo, he took over and broke them.

yelling is a traditional method of enhancing your power during a strike.. it also has other deeper benefits but thats the most basic reason...

Bubue13, Sensei Kanazawa is demonstrating a "set" which Shotokan Karate sudents must learn and demonstrate for each grading. Your opponent knows what move you are going to make, blocks it and counter attacks. The Kiai (yelling) is used during the attack and counter attack.

Of course he is fast, he's one of Shotkan's greatest legends :) I don't know how old he was when filming this clip (must have been over 50), but today he's 79, and still travelling around the world and teaching.
