I'm not going to jump on here and say I've heard them all... but this is by far and away the best SDL I've ever heard. Hell, even one of the best songs DMB has ever recorded and I started following them when they were playing at TRAX and the Flood Zone in C-Ville. DMB played at my prom if that tells you how small they were back in the day...
Saw them play this at Alpine '08, amazing fucking show, Dancing Nancies opener, this was 4th or 5th song, and they even played Spoon! Later on, Halloween....mind blowing!!!
I hate screaming in music. Dave makes music out of a scream. How anyone can dislike this in any way is beyond me. The most emotional, creative band I've ever had the pleasure of being a fan of.
You should check out Dave's solo album Some Devil. That's where you can find So damn Lucky.
Further more you should listen to the LiveTraxx albums for DMB effort versions. Don't think they will ever record it again for a new studio album. Do you?
Two totally different drummers. Carter is a little busy on this song (in general, my only complaint with Carter), so I could see how someone would think the album is better. The studio version is more straight-ahead, and sometimes simpler is superior.
Does anyone know when/if a live dvd of this or rothbury in general is going to be released? This is the greatest DMB concert to date in my humble opinion
The studio version is on Dave's solo album "Some Devil." The live versions possess more emotion though. Rothbury and Live at Mile High have great versions of this song.
These are almost the same words i wrote earlier this week about DMB when i posted a video of theirs on my page. DMB has this ability to make powerful, amazing, uplifting, blow your mind songs about sad subjects/matters. They pull it off so well over & over again. It's one of the things that drew me to them.
That was the best DMB show I have ever been to. And afterwards walking through Sherwood forest to see quite possibly the best STS9 show ever was just absolutely magical. It doesn't get much better than that. Sure he may be too 'mainstream' for some people, but damn if Dave doesnt put on one hell of a performance :)
exactly, the forest starts pulsing with sts9 as soon as dave ends and like moths to a flame everyone ventured through the woods to the beat of the best sts9 show I've been to
To be honest, and not meaning to offend, what attracts me to this band is the collection of amazing musicians Dave manages to surround himself with. Dave is also a great songwriter. But as a vocalist...not that great and I could do without the screaming. I wish the band would do more jamming with less vocals. IMHO
Its almost the opposite to me, while I love the other musicians, the thing that gets me is dave's voice/guitar, and my favorite of his songs are the ones he just lets loose on and screams. You would have loved the last show I went too of his, it was at the Gorge Ampitheatre in Washington, Dave was losing his voice and so a good portion of the concert was extremely long jam sessions from all the other musicians. Tim Reynolds also solo'ed with his teeth during all along the watchtower!
People will only realise how great this is when this band is long gone. Musicially everybody on that stage is a genious. Good bands are plenty, great bands are few but this is absolute genious!!
in my opinion i think dave is amazing all around but i think mile high's so damn lucky outro is better then this one. I think when dave screams in this one back to back like three times is sick but mile high is better in my book. Ca;t wait for that summer tour Two nights in Alpine two nights in Nobelsville and my hometown First Midwest Amplitheatre is going to be a sick summer tour. Let me know how you guys feel about mile high or this one.
5:35 - 5:45 is probably one of my favorite vocal fills of all time. It's so unusual and beautiful. This performance almost makes me tear up. Chills, man.
Well, not really the wail. The unusual sounding vocal afterwards. It's just unconventional and great. I just Love music like that. Stuff I haven't heard before.
This song sounds fantastic with the band/ timmy. With timmy playing with the band, there is a totally new feel to all of the music they play. Amazing.
azriel was gargamel's pet cat..regarding my original comment, I was very drunk when I wrote it and it is nothing but utter nonsense. hope you enjoy the killer dmb video!
i wish i was lucky!!! we would all be lucky if the new world order would die!!!! and we can have are world given back to us down with the illuminti!!! im so damn lucky i can see it i have awoken no more asleep oh my god wait and see what would become of me...dizzy from all this spining
omg this was such an awesome show wow i cant believe this its got to be one of the most shocking performance it looked so well laid out the outro....wow the lights and everything...this performance just took this song to a whole nother level
this show was bad ass, good enough for live release, I mean it's a great set, I'd pay just to get this song though(timmy, flyin' V, so damn lucky, carter, dave screamin', bad ass!)
hahahaha, girls love him and guys want to be him...I love him too, I've never been as HIGH as I was when I was actaully sober and saw DMB play this, it put me in a trance...I didn't care about talking to the girls standing next to me at the show, or the booze and weed being passed around. I didn't want to miss a single note of any song, espeacailly when I saw timmy with that flyin-V.
I love how dave laughs at the noises timmy's makin' at 2:20, you can read his expressions all the time..that expression was like "hey that was freakin' cool" I like how dave looks surprised sometimes at good the band really is live and how spontaneuos they are.
great addition to their repertoire of jams.. they jammed this up and down for like 10 minutes night 2 of Mansfield.. rain drops going up in the background, goosebump/make out with a stranger sorta stuff
I have to say, this is my favorite song. Real meaning and I really just don't know how to explain it but, touching, darker thoughts, but I would have to say the best song they play.
from what i have heard in interviews it is about a car accident and counting your blessings.. if you listen to the lyrics "i hit this corner with my foot on the gass. i started sliding"
like others have said its not about an actual car accident... its just about how life goes so fast sometimes that you don't even really have time to look up before everything changes. its metaphorical. absolutly beautiful song! we go to the gorge every year and if you want to get the real experience you have to camp out all weekend. beautiful song! so inspiring
I saw this in Hartford...it was good but they hadn't extended the ending yet. I saw it in Mansfield a few weeks later. I could not stop bouncing. It was as close to a religious experience as I have ever had.The notes Dave was hitting were immaculate. Plus, the band put so much intensity behind it. I'm getting goosbumps just flashing back. We will never forget you LeRoi!
90 times? Considering Trouble/Stay or Leave/Dodo/So damn lucky are pretty much the best songs they have put out in five+ years, it's fine with me. They have stopped playing AB intro/American Baby/Dream girl etc...
tim can do anything. he can make this song unbelievable. this was far from one of my favorite dave songs, but with the added element it is unreal. to all my fellow rothbury goers, i miss you all a great deal and im glad we had such a great weekend.
this is the best version i've ever heard. he did this at riverbend a few nights ago. it absolutely blew me away. tim should deffinitely stay with dmb.
What a sick version of this song, I saw them do this in Charleston on the fourth of july and they didn't do the whole last five minute jam part, just solid playing from everybody in the band! and I don't think Leroy will have to look for a new job when he gets back.
It's amazing what nine minutes and six seconds can do!!!!!!!!

tim can do anything. he can make this song unbelievable. this was far from one of my favorite dave songs, but with the added element it is unreal. to all my fellow rothbury goers, i miss you all a great deal and im glad we had such a great weekend.

this is the best version i've ever heard. he did this at riverbend a few nights ago. it absolutely blew me away. tim should deffinitely stay with dmb.

True, Timmy def. gives them some new options, and with Butch leaving the band it was a good time to get another guitar player.

You can tell Tim has really opened up a lot of doors... they're doing all sorts of stuff that they couldn't have done before...

I couldn't agree with you more. I think this is the best they have ever sounded. I was blessed enough to have seen this version with LeRoi.

It's a deep loss having LeRoi gone... I wish I was in your shoes! I've never been able to see the band in person, and now Roi's no longer here.
Lovin the covers too!

What a sick version of this song, I saw them do this in Charleston on the fourth of july and they didn't do the whole last five minute jam part, just solid playing from everybody in the band! and I don't think Leroy will have to look for a new job when he gets back.
