I was once clocked at 139 on a 1989 v-max with aftermarket pipes as the only modification. The only problem in finding out how fast i was going was hearing it from the state trooper who clocked me.Straght line speed is overated.Throw some corners in the mix and you go from biker to possible motorcyclist.
Shame about the soundtrack with Elt Toilet....in fact shame about the odd two-wheel contraption, probably well suited to Fat Reg types....just another drag bike(or bike in drag!)With those cubic inches it should fly.My old 850cc Moto Guzzi LeMans reg no OPP129P(1976) was clocked at 148 on the track until I tuned it beyond what production -racing rules allowed and used it on the road...then it really flew.
I ride a b-king that has the hyabusa motor and does 150 in 4th gear, previous bikes were Fz1000 and Z1000 among others. My buddy has a rocket all dressed out and I'm shocked how quick and torquey it is. They are great bikes, heavy, but very quick!
People keep saying this crap about the Rocket not being fast. Just look the size of the radiator on that bike, Any other bike woun't get to 100 km/h with that stuff stiking out on the sides like that. With that "aerodinamics" (or lack of!) and still getting to 250 km/h (after taking the limiter out) is just AMAZING!
This bike is all about torque. It is not designed to get to 300 km/h, but to pull like a raging bull, and it does it amazingly well!!
Neet video . I just picked up a Rocket3 standard a couple of weeks ago . Fun machine very well balanced ,handling is excellent for a cruiser, brakes are great..
Easy break in miles for now but boy does it want to run.
Lots more potential with Tuneboy and intakesif you feel the need.
Right now till the end of May they're running killer deals on leftover 09's here in the US.
Is this bike reliable? I am interested in it but I am not sure how good it is. I am a tall guy "6.3" and the rocket roadster is the only cruiser that fits me very well.
@trqmj This bike is very very reliable, known many people to own one and my dad owns one, fantastic machine to cruise on and he finds it excellent at 6'2, hope this helps =]
You may find the seat is rather badly shaped and uncomfortable for more than a hundred miles a shot - invest in a good Corbin custom seat or have the original pan redone.
The rear shocks are very stiff due to the size, weight, and power it has. Progressive Suspension has excellent tuneable replacements for it.
I've done both these mods and have been extremely pleased with the results.
Love the bike, I purchased one about 3 weeks ago. And yes they flat out cook, even in 5th gear they pull like a freight train. Tune boy on the way, time to open up those secondaries :)
Really not THAT expensive.. $15-17K..Not cheap.. but not outrageous. A Harley costs more, and is FAR LESS bike IMHO. I got to ride one a few weeks ago at the Triumph Demo rides.. its heavy, but I had just rode the Street Triple.. so that made it feel even heavier. This thing PULLS LIKE CRAZY.. makes a nice noise too.. kinda like a big diesel truck.
Flat out awesome bike. I've had several bikes, including the Suzuki M109 .. which some list as a direct competitor .. but as quick as that M109 is, it has yet to touch that Rocket III.
Every time I hit that R III throttle, I soil my pants and grin all the way. :)
Didn't lose to anything on that RIII, be it a bullet bike or whatever. All those toying wit the idea .. you will not be disappointed.
@jaredmt73 i know what you mean... i've had my rocket 3 for two years now, and when you twist the throttle hard it's like having the Hand of God smack you right square in the arse!
147lb ft of torque at a lazy 2,500rpm! Triumph claims that the Rocket 3 would out-accelerate a Yamaha R1 to 100mph and sprint from 0 to 60mph in just 2.8 seconds!
The Rocket 3 produces more torque at idle than a Honda FireBlade at its 8,500rpm peak!
First off, riding a motorcycle is not all about the speed.. Secondly, the hayabusa is not very agile, its just all about straight lines, and third, imo, the hayabusa is pretty ugly. =/
You're right. It's not. I ride a Harley. But this video is about the speed and how fast the Rocket goes. I'm not a crotch rocket man, but my son has a Busa and it will top out at 200+ Now that is fast for a production bike. His bike has beautiful paint and lots of aftermarket bolt-ons. It is very adgile at lower speeds. I don't know why you think it is not.
No doubt it is fast, but I can guarantee with good riders on both, a 600cc will beat a busa around most tracks. Owning a zx14 and having ridded busa's and blackbirds before, I can safely say the wheelbase is too long for it to move quickly around a track. PS, dragging knees != fast, I can drag knees doing 30km/h.
well it has been tested, and it just doesnt perform on the track. There is a reason why they are not in the Moto GP. Dont get me wrong though, they are very well built bikes.. but i just hate all the hype about them, I think its just the name that gets people.. lol
This comment is silly considering we're watching a "SPEED" video about a "TRIUMPH ROCKET 3" which has go much inertial mass it handles like, well... A Triumph Rocket 3. The Hayabusa will eat this bike alive in almost all performance parameters considered for motorcycles, then have gas left once you hit the 150 mile mark. Not that the Rocket 3 doesn't do what it's supposed to.. Which is be bold, brash, loud and grunty.
I can tell you that it is not fast on the Rocket. The bike handles verry well, even without fairing. The little screen works verry well too. It cuts the wind.
The Rocket is limited @ 6000 rpm. With for example a tuneboy you can remove the limiter. I heard that it would have a topspeed about 270 km\h (about 168 mph)
@GerardHD Bob Carpenter of Carpenterracing raises the limiter and has made 270 pump gas rwhp with 100% bullet proof rideability..their next upgrade will be a 300 plus rwhp rocket...drive in drive out now costs 7900 for the 270 rwhp all motor package
