@momoijisohma , they really died! in the special episode they said so! someone in youtube write that it might be one of the story of the book that the girl has writen (i don't remember her name) and i agree with that; it's sad but i think i will remember this drama for always because of this end; i was so schoked, i didnt except that because of the begining of the drama; if you loved hgd watch iljimae; you will love it too!

waaa! I just finished watching the series, OMG! It is beyong fantastic! It is UNIQUELY ENTERTAINING AND SO AWESOME!!!! Everybody did a superb job! even the crazy king, everyone did such a stellar performance! Then why do I feel so sad, though? I hope I can watch more of series like thid. yup, totally agree with you, I'm almost done watching the series and I'm in the 20th episode, God! This is such a very powerful drama, comedy and action of a movie! Sad part are the saddest part, funny and the romantic part are the best as well, but I feel so such in a good way watching it. I couldn't help it and I've watch the ending, damn! so curious, I guess it has to end that way. I feel so sorry for the prince (later king). This definitely the best in 2008, I'll get me a copy of this.

The drama did have an unexpected ending but it is acceptable since it's true that both Gil Dong and Chang Whe's world cannot exist at the same time. But with the destruction of the hideout, it did give Chang Whe the power to control the nobles. And like what Gil Dong and Yi Nok believe, he will be a good king. Remember what he said in the end that he will be a greater King and protect it's people? Plus, like what Gil Dong said, he will guard him and make sure he doesn't go insane.

How? His legacy keeps living on. Whenever the King do something wrong, there will be Hong Gil Dongs out there that gonna remind him. So, I strongly believe that he will be a good king like what he promised Gil Dong. I don't think Gil Dong and others died in the end since the drama is just a story a few years back before the first scene of the drama.

yap, I also believed that they survived in the end, if u are referring to the 1st episode where they were fighting and all and then freeze! and the screen said " A FEW YEARS AFTER THIS" But somebody told me that the writer said that the 1st epi was the flaw in this drama, it was said that they did died in the end. Aigoo! I was so relieved when I thought they didn't died, but no matter or however it ended. It was superb nonetheless. I love KJH,great actor indeed!

I'm pretty sure they died in the end. It's pretty much implied. However, they indicate that he's not REALLY dead cause his legacy continues on. The first episode, I believe, is what the PEOPLE say about Hong Gil Dong - their stories about him. If you rewatch Ep1, it seems pretty exagerated. And if it WAS true, then that would mean Chang Hui did not do his job as a good king in the 1st Ep. I'm not sure if that makes sense but reread what I wrote. I think it makes sense to me, hahas.

I kinda agree with you. But to me, what he Hong sister wanted to emphasis in the end is that no matter Gil Dong is alive or not, it doesn't matter. What's important is that his legacy continue to live on after thousand of years. So, it was a good ending although it gives you mixed feelings. Eventhough Chang Hui is a great king, but he cannot change the world in one day like Gil Dong said.
