I've found these in Eastern Washington, on rocks in fast-moving streams. It's a very distinct and unique larval form. I'm not even sure what to call it.
@Kivencito It is definately not an azotadore, being called a caterpillar in the U.S. Though I agree, it looks similar, and I thought of that at first too.
@arthurdragon17 lol I'm not really an expert on caterpillars, I just was telling that guy it couldn't have been a caterpillar, then he asked me another question.
Speculatively, you may have been sprayed by one of the acid spitting ones. I doubt the acid is strong; there is no need for a caterpillar to have defenses strong enough to seriously effect a human.
I suppose it may be possible to have an allergy to them. I'm not one to ask... I just knew Azotador and Caterpillar where the same creature.
When i saw the title i really think this was going to be a video of Mr. Hankey of Shout Park. lol XD

Ooh. Are the parapods a primitive adaptation or a recent evolutionary deal. They look trilobitie-ish except for those suction-cup like parapods.
scythiconatron 1 year ago
@scythiconatron These are Diptera, so probably a very recent adaptation.
memutic 1 year ago
Do they have suction cups for feet? In a single line? Weird!

@flamablesteve huh well i tried :D! what happens if i touch a caterpillar?
Kivencito 1 year ago
@Kivencito Hmm. well, there are some species with natural defenses, but most caterpillars are harmless, they just curl up a bit if you touch them.
Some of them are poisonous and some can even shoot acid apparently, however most are harmless.
Caterpillars are the larval form of moths and butterflies.
flamablesteve 1 year ago
@flamablesteve
can they cause allergies?
as a little kid, i remember kissing some cute furry caterpillars and soon i got a small rash on my lip or something...
it hasn`t only happened once, atleast twice, i think...
or maybe they just urinated on me, i dunno, i was stupid to put them near my mouth anyway XD
