WTF WERE THE BLAZERS DOING ON DEFENSE??? HOW MANY TIMES DID THEY LEAVE THE BEST PLAYER ON THE PLANET WIDEEE OPEN??? DIDNT THEY GET THE HINT AFTER THE FIRST THREE 3s?? OR THE 4th?? OR 5th?? guess not.
@InTecknicolour Most likely/yes, Magic "retired" (or was at least forced to cuz of his HIV virus) in 1991, and soon afterwards became one of the greatest color commentators
this really is a nostalgic NBA moment. I remember watching it as a kid in 92. this game made Basketball huge in Australia. Basketball shops started opening up everywhere. Such an exciting time for basketball this was, this game was so fun to watch.
I swear everytime i hear something like "Lebron's breaking records .. and is gonna be the greatest", with his terrible jump shot, i feel seek and want just to hit the person right in the head, to make him a lobotomy. There will not have another Jordan. Forget it. NBA is bullshit today, with others defensive rules. Lebron is a beast physically, and only this. To be one of the biggest he tries to beat records ... only. Lebron is not a fake, but forget it.
@TheRafaelBond Good point. I remember watching the game live on T.V. and thinking by half time, MJ would finish with 60. Phil Jackson obviously wanted MJ to rest in the 2nd half considering it was game 1 and the game was well out-of-reach for Portland. Nonetheless, this is why 23 is simply the best.
MJ is the best that ever was. He completely destroys the opponent with three pointers, as if he was Larry Bird. Drexler declared after the game that he did not manage to see the back of Jordan's jersey once, because Mike was too fast.
This is how the NBA should look, 90s style. the way the game is played here, with more space to shoot inside and the uniforms look normal and not too baggy. This is how i remember the NBA, today just looks like a bunch of oversized tattood hulks running around in baggy clothes, i don't like it now.
1992, Jordan was the UNDISPUTED King of Basketball. By this point, he mastered everything, nothing missing at all. Jordan pushed himself in the gym, which is why he was in tremendous shape, and did not get tired. 1987-93, MJ was at his peak athletically and mentally. 1996-98 Jordan used his experience and work ethic to win. He relied more on jump shots than ever before and took great care of his body.
Jordan was a work of art. He was truly brilliant, and this game was a perfect example. His ball handling, superb. His post game, amazing, and his off the ball movement, terrific.
Whenever I watch games from the mid 90's and earlier, it seems like no one played tough defense. Sure they comitted hard fouls all the time but that doesn't equal tough defense. It looked like no one even tried to stop Jordan on a lot of these shots.
Boy do I miss the 90's NBA. The 90's NBA was one of the best era. I remember watching this in my living room growing up. Because of Jordan is what made me get into basketball. You can't compare today's NBA to the 90's NBA at all. Jordan was the king of NBA. Jordan never missed any shots in his career. We will never find another Miichael Jordan today the way the NBA looks today. Today the NBA SUCKS. Kobe Bryant and LeBron suck ASS. They ain't nuttin compare to Jordan was. 90's was best generation
UN-FREAKIN-BELIEVABLE!!! who do ya'll know can make 32 pts and make 6 3-pts in da first half? D-Wade hasn't done it. Lebron hasn't done it. Steve Nash hasn't done it. Who?!?!
Cara tenho a graça de ter visto este mito jogar durante toda a sua carreira. Acompanhei todos os seus títulos, jodadas e mágicas. Acredito que esse sim, foi um verdadeiro Pelé. @3312jaxfla I agree just watching it gives me chills.Im sorry No player in todays game can impact it the way he did.Even if Kobe gets 6 rings, his finals performances are nowhere near MJs.MJ had his best moments in the playoffs. And lets not get started with Lebron James.Anyone who compares him to MJ is disrespecting MJ.Mentally LBJ is as small as a pea.He never knew the game was more mental than physical
@Zeke4TV dude.. this is one of the most impartial and classic comments i have ever come across!!! the comparison between MJ, KB, LBJ,(in descending order) is so spot on!!! repect
@Zeke4TV agreed. LBJ is good, but not in the conversation for greatest of all time. shaq won LA's titles almost by himself. if you think back to past NBA championship teams, they all had an inside scoring force....except Jordan's Bulls. MJ was such a dominant force that he didn't need a post scorer and i don't care what anyone says, MJ made Scottie the player he was. i believe that you could put any 6'8" swingman next to MJ and they would put up numbers similar to Scottie
Basically you are right. MOST of NBA championship teams had a no.4 or 5 dominant. But there are exceptions, starting with Dallas, continue with Detroit @2004 and back to Detroit of 89-90.
Ofcourse, Detroit centers weren't great scorer, but had great defenders inside and outside.
Anyway, Jordan made 6 titles without such a force, so (as I wrote) you basically right.
@3312jaxfla what u said about Pippen is beyond ridiculous. U realise the year after Jordan retired for the first time, Pippen made the All-NBA first team and All-Star MVP ?? Also one of the best defenders in NBA history. All-Defensive first team like 7 years in a row
What u said about Pippen is beyond ridiculous. U realise the year after Jordan retired the first time and Scottie was leading the Bulls by himself he made the All-NBA first team and was All Star game MVP?? Also was one of the best defenders in history making the All Defensive first team like 7 years in a row. A truly great all round player.
@boredfun91 In only his second season Jordan dropped 63 points in the PLAY OFFS after being out for most of the regular season, against Larry Bird's legendary Celtics team of the 80's. That was arguably the toughest era of the NBA, when teams were actually allowed to play aggressive defence, unlike this soft era of touch fouls. These so called 'super stars' cry out everytime they drive to the hole for the ref 2 call foul and send them to the line. Go watch the 90's Knicks and compare to now.
@boredfun91 Jordan mastered his off the ball movement. That's the most underated aspect of what made him the most complete and decisive player in the history of the game. He was always one, two, three or four steps ahead of the defenders guarding him, and that was before he even recieved the ball. Didn't matter if it was double or triple team, his movement and decision making was so quick and decisive, that it always seemed as if the defence wasn't ready or were out of position.
@dilan4me If Kobe is as great as you think he is, why hasn't he put up big numbers like that in the PLAY OFFS. A 40 year old Jordan dropped 30 on a prime Dirk Nowitizki and the same Mavericks that SWEPT Kobe and his Lakers this year. Where was KB at? Until Kobe can get anywhere close to shooting 50% from the field for just one season, you should lay low with that foolishness. 81 points against a weak Raptors. Is that all you got?? Really?? Is that the best you can do. Hype is cheap.
Jordan is the greatest of all time, but Kobe is right behind him. Jordan said himself that he deserves the comparison. LeBron on the other hand.......

Other interesting facts about this game:
- Scottie Pippen had a Triple double game and scored well.
- Jordan was triple teamed in the second half and mainly passed to the other guys instead.
- The Bulls won by nealry 40 points, it was a domination in game 1.
- Pippen Alley Ooped to Jordan for a famous dunk from the inbound pass out of bounds.
- Terry Porter shot something like 80-90% from the outside shot
- Cliff Robinson and Kersey made some really memorable finals dunks in this gam

MJ was such a dominant force that he didn't need a post scorer and i don't care what anyone says, MJ made Scottie the player he was. i believe that you could put any 6'8" swingman next to MJ and they would put up numbers similar to Scottie

@3312jaxfla

@dilan4me LOL. Kobe scored 81 against the Raptors. They can't play D for shit. Hell, I've seen better defense at the dunk contest.
