the pilot is amazing..I have landed many times at st barts and it is ALWAYS a hair raier..even when landing in the normal up and over the hill and road manner
This was NOT landing backwards. Landing backwards is Throttle on to make the halfway point on the runway, then going to idle and having a strong enough headwind to push you backwards aloft, reverse controls, and touching down. I've only seen it once and it was in either a Cessna or Piper. Can't remember. Sadly havn't seen it done since and can't find a video of anyone else doing it!
these guys really do have the best job in the world. i dont care if you think you got the best job. this guys is like 1000x better than any other job period.
Please, learn from shooting this great video, which was good otherwise....DO NOT zoommmmmm in so far when in a moving aircraft, it almost made me nauseated...nauseated?, ya, sic, looks nice otherwise...
its all to do with from where the wind is blowing! u need to land into wind this would allow u to have a slower approach would help u slow down and stop.. if the wind is blowing from the side or is calm then u can use either direction! with st bart runway 10 has a more difficult approach due to the hill with the road.. the other direction 28 is easier!
and 'backwards' meaning not coming in over the hill.

The pilot did not change his mind. The approach was to RWY 28 from the outset. And stop the zooming in. Learn how to use a camera.

why dont they always land that way ? , much safer than having to nose dive down the hill and land
calz1272 3 years ago
Because of wind direction. Who cares about terrain when when you have a 10 knot head or tailwind

@flyguy281 you´re toooooootally right !

Not really... at least you have the option of going around. Landing the other way, there is no go around.
