this splash screen looks absoloutely amazing when on real hardware as opposed to in a youtube vid. Top notch stuff. Go Ubuntu! Hopefully the sign of more good things to come out of ayatana or whatever the heck it's called
This probably wont be fixed, you probably have a broadcom wireless card. ubuntu doesnt have the permission to include the firmware of broadcom. So its not a fault of canonical.
I just loaded up the livecd in virtualbox, the new splash looks AMAZING in the flesh. Good work guys! My only wish is that it would be integrated more with the desktop. Maybe have a desktop background similar to this and have it fade back into it. It looks classy.
Can somebody please help me, on my computer all I have is a white screen. I made a video on my channel showing what it looks like. I'll subscribe 2 you on both of my accounts if you can help me.
I like the direction the splash is going, but I think the gfx in this instance are a little too monochromatic. Needs SOME colour in it. I do like the crossfade from splash to desktop wallpaper, however. I'd also like to see an actual progress meter rather than simple looped animation.
Playing with this in Virtualbox myself, they've added a nice touch when you shutdown. It shows the normal Jaunty splash gfx with closing progress meter and it then fades to black before switching off. Very nice.
Its been nothing more than evolutionary. Nothing revolutionary to speak of. At best they introduce new features which break old features.
Sorry I'm a bit jaded. I've been using linux on the desktop 40+hrs a week since the early 90s. It still feels like its held together with duct tape. Linux on the server is unbeatable but the desktop still needs lots more time and money invested.
adoro ese inicio T_T | i love that splash T_T

I almost broke out in tears when my HDMI audio spitted out the welcome tune @ first boot.

Its more like windows boot screen, I like the one in which loading bar increases from 0 to 100%. So I know easily if it has hanged during boot.

This is the best welcome screen I've ever seen. It's a joy booting up to it!

all we need now is my wireless to function properly, i have no problems in 9.04 will i have problems in this release, u no?
uvmedraco 2 years ago
I've had no problems with wireless so far. If you had no issues in 9.04 it's unlikely you will in 9.10. Now there's also a sexy log-off screen.

ok i sorted it, i have to plug in the ethernet and activate the drivers, annoying but hey its only alpha 6 hopefully itll be fixed!

The layout and colors of the previous usplash were MUCH better than this...
I know that xsplash with be much faster, but they could have kept the same animation.

Looks great. Some extra color options other than that brown tint would be awesome also.

Now if only the UI didn't look nearly indistinguishable from 5 years go.

I believe you'd see quite a few differences between Ubuntu 4.10 and 8.10 if you put them side by side.
The last five years of Linux has had a major increase in development and shows no signs of slowing down.
