yea lincoln may not be the fastest shredder or whatever but he's definitely the most versatile and technically unique guitarist ive heard. he can go from van halen to SVR style in the same riff. just check out let your glory shine, pentatonic to rock blues licks. what kind of a guitarist does that? i mean u tell me..hes definitely one of the best out there. and u cant get bored at his concerts like u can after listening to malmsteen shred for 20 minutes.
@octavarium23 I haven't seen any guitarist that I like as much as Lincoln, or any guitarist that has as much talent as him, but its really just a matter of opinion I suppose.
@cracker2200 no but it changes velocities. in other words it not only makes it louder but it also changes the muted tone that you here if you play quietly
FANTASTIC. Just saw them at NAMM 2010 in Anaheim. Talk afterwards by those who attended was of high praise. Lincoln is awesome on guitar work, but Norm is the bomb on bass. Both are great individuals to have spoken with as well.
He's playing a midi controller keyboard. Probably 61 keys... they use the computer probably with Reason, or Main Stage to produce different sounds instead of using a keyboard with the sounds built in.
yea. as long as we express ourselves. its all good. hahah. everyone has their own style in music so i cant blame if u like or dont like it because u have your own style and i have mine.. :) and btw, i use a booster on my computer speaker so i hear a bassy sound. maby thats why it sounds good on mine. but when I tried to lower the boost down i hear a really light bass sound/tone which is not really good at all. ;)
huh? u dont think the finger style is not that great? like the lead part? that was crazy and the sound was awesome nothings wrong with the tone. i think your just not use to it. or u just havent hear those kind of playing before. victor wooten use those tone/sound and other legend bass player.
ive been playing bass and lead guitar for about 8 years with different kind of genre. theres nothing wrong with the tone. the sound of his bass is some kind of jazz/punky. I would say those rips that he plays are crazy. have you tried slapping the bass? cuz those tone are good for slap.
It's in B minor and I love playing this at church!!! His tone is way too trebley but that could be a combo of the recording and a bad sound man. He was pretty crazy on that solo ;0
All my rants below were supposed to be to highsociey1. You have to read them from the last one to the first. I hope this sheds light for everyone. I am not an expert or claiming to be. Just want to help open others minds to the pod. If I had the money, there would be a Bogner, Soldano, and a Vox Ac-30 in my living room! I developed a taste for boutique high dollar true bypass pedals but you have to make family and kids a priority sometimes. I would love to have all fulltone and keeley products!

He has done this lots of times and even has friends whose amps where used by line 6 to model them.
I went in the studio a few months ago and used amp farm, a line 6 product. You can listen to the recordings and would think I used a real Soldano amp rig. I was amazed and so pleased with the sound. I was only gonna use it as a rough track and come back with my guitar amp but didn't have to. As I said before, the important thing to remember and wrap your head around is this is a mic'ed amp simulator. And the pod responds really well to backing off the volume knob and even using outboard pedals.
he stock presets are not the greatest, but like any real amp you have to work with it to get the sweet spot. For what is in the pod X3 live, amp models, effects, dual amps, cab and mic selections, bass amps, mic preamps, acoutic tayloring, wah pedals, nothing can touch this for $500. At church they freak out at how good it sounds. an you imagine being able to run a Soldano and Bogner at the same time? How about a Vox Ac30 and a marshall plexi.
I also get where you are coming from, but Realize (most) tone is opion, if he likes it good for him, he saved him self 1000's of $, but it dont sound the same by any meens. The dynamic range is in the toilet, your EQ dont react like it should, I have MANY reasons. But hey I LOVE the vox wah wah some people like the cry baby, its all opion (thank ya for bein mature and not just cusing "to" me) =)
The bass and keyboard solo ruined it for me, i just sat patiently and waited for lincoln brewster to come back on and mop up the floor with them. What a killer tone lincoln has.
Sorry mam but it's NOT a Line6 Pod, it's actually Boss BD-2 blues driver boosted by the Boss SD-1 super overdrive followed by a 200ms setting on a Boss DD-3 digital delay and a Boss RV-5 for that nice reverb sound. Lincoln has in fact one of the Boss main spokesman after telling various interviewees that he's annoyed by people who assumes that he uses a Line 6 Pod and would never use anything other than Boss products. visit his site and it'll tell you for your sake!
lol. Yeah sorry man. There is a video out there of Brewster himself saying he runs into a pod x3 live directly into the PA. However, it could have changed, but i doubt it.
lol. yeah, sorry mam.. that video also shows him saying that he only uses the pod x3 for amp modeling while he uses a boss bd-2 and OD-3 (biisted by SD-1) with a DD-3 for his signature sound. He could of changed to solely using only the pod x3, but i doubt it.
you're obviously not a musician. Or you just play guitar. All the solos in this are amazing and if you can't understand the talent God has blessed them with than I am truly sorry.
Yeah, he really only uses the POD X3 Live as a mic'ed up amp simulation. The only effects I've seen him use on the PX3 are the wah for the "beatbox" technique he does and maybe a hair of delay, but that's it. Everything else is from his Boss stompboxes.
@xXGzArRuKXx yes he used to use the pod x3 but he now uses the line 6 pedal. my pastors son who is the guitar player at our church looked it up and went and got it. i believe it is available at guitar center.
@xXGzArRuKXx i agree, i love the fact he just rips your face off but is a Christian! love it! but he recently switched to the AXE-FX pro or something.
@ahvaimusicom yes he switched to Axe FX from Fractal Audio and i think he´s using their amps too, we should wait for the release of his new album in september to see how good is his tone now
Very true. And, regarding his sound, people have to remember that he uses American made Fender custom shop Strats. Those make a big difference in the quality of his sound and tone, as will any high-end guitar. Not to mention the fact that he is a sound engineer.
Is it just me or does the bass and organ solo leave something to be desired? I can hardly make out the pitches in his bass tone and the keyboardist played like he had hooves. If it's just me I'll shut up.
As far as the bass tone goes, I wouldn't say it's as bad as you made it out to be but it is lacking a ton compared to what Norm's tone usually is, which amazing. Look him him up on other videos or check out his site, hell even go to the Gallien-Kreuger website and he's the first thing you'll hear!
Anybody can be good at just about anything, but God gifts each person individually in certain areas. It's up to you to decide what you want to do, but you can't deny that some people are more talented in areas that others aren't.
lol, did I ruffle a few feathers? That's ok. :-) Look, I don't think there's anything wrong with saying God gave him a gift. An atheist like me might say he's naturally gifted - basically the same statement, from another perspective. But then what you do with that gift is up to you. If Lincoln hadn't practiced, if he hadn't worked hard, if he'd wasted his time and played vids all day and did drugs and stuff, he wouldn't be where he is today. I don't see how anyone can deny that.
And so I don't mean offense to anyone, I just don't like hearing things like "God blessed him with mad skillz!" Maybe God blessed him with natural talent, but Lincoln deserves full credit for developing that talent and pursuing his career. It's great that you guys are excited about his religious leanings, but let's respect the man who put in the work to get this good: Lincoln himself.
Well, no matter how you think Lincoln got his skills, he says God gave them to him. Are you saying you know more about Lincoln's guitar playing ability than he does? That's absurd
I knew Lincoln when he was a teenager, he was alreay great then, he did practice but so did many others including myself who don't have his abilities after 40 years of playing music.
I'll bet he practiced hours and hours every day. If we practiced like that, we'd be this good too, but we didn't, so we aren't. Don't limit your potential by claiming God either gives it to you or he doesn't. God has blessed us all with the potential to do whatever we set our minds to - free will and all that, right? I would hope Lincoln would agree - put your mind to it and you can do it too!
Lincoln himself wants no credit for his playing ability. He gives it to God 100%. God gives us the talents that we have, and while it's up to us to develop them, He still gave them to us. That's why some people could practice the guitar for 50 years and not be as good as somebody who practiced for 10. God gives us the talents and the gifts that we have, and we just have to practice them. God should get all the credit for Lincoln's ability. And this is coming from another musician.
I think this is total nonsense, and again disrespectful to others and yourself. I've never seen God do squat for anyone, anywhere. You make it happen - no one else. Lincoln wouldn't be able to play worth a darn if he hadn't spent thousands of hours honing his skill. And anyone who spends thousands of hours will get good, even as good as you believers. ;-)
That is so negative, I hardly know where to begin. You're just plain wrong - anyone who puts in the work can get great at anything they want. Is this what you tell your kids? "Better choose wisely son, because God only gave you talent at certain things, and everything else you'll suck at." Man, if that's what you learned in church, maybe you should consider something a little less pessimistic and limiting.
When I do have kids, I'll certainly tell them that they can be great at anything they choose to work at. But whether or not you choose to believe in God, you can't deny that some people are more talented at things than others. It's God that puts those talents in us, and like I said before, we do have a responsibility to hone those talents, whatever they may be. If I've learned anything at church, it's to grab hold of the talents I've been giving and use them for His glory, not fear of failing.
Main practice years were spent 4 to 6 hour a day for about the first 15 years of playing, but all self taught, I have some good books. Im 57 years old, been playing 43 years, Im a solid player, I improvise well but there is a limit to what I do and other people just simply have greater limits or less and abilites than I. I still practice but I will never play like S. Vai. I'm trying to learn EJ ideas of motovic playing but I don't think like him. Its difficult for me.
Great playing, but God didn't "bless" him with anything. He worked his tail off and practiced every day to get to where he is. It's unbelievable to me how many Christians want to give God credit for great accomplishments - how disrespectful to the artist! Lincoln himself deserves 100% of the credit for getting this good. God had nothing to do with it.
People who say musicians are blessed, usually don't play instruments, or can't learn/understand music, hence for those who are able, they are gifted. Hard work can get you places, but if God isn't the center of your practice; the end result is meaningless . So don't be too hard on them. After all, God gave Lincoln Brewster life and salvation. Those are awesome blessings!
I'm a musician, and an atheist. I just think you guys do him a real disservice by claiming his skill comes from some mystical higher power. It's really very disrespectful (and if he himself believes that, he's disrespecting himself). Believe all you want - more power to you - but if he hadn't practiced hard and worked his butt off, no amount of God's blessings would have made him this good.
Hey karma, you seem very distraught over this argument. Simply put there should be no argument. According to what you say, Lincoln is disrespecting himself, so there is your answer.
Great to hear a awsome guitar player on the radio, Even better He is a Christian who isn't embarrassed to mention God in His songs unlike many Christian entertainers! I hope this gets more Christian guitar players putting solos back in their songs.
Oh my gosh...how could someone be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good at bass...i play guitar and a little bit of bass...and i always thought bass was kind of boring...but that was awesome!!!!!!!!!!! God bless1!!!!
I was there last year. 4th row center. Awesome!. I was there last weekend 5th row center, twice as good!!. It was at the Overlake Church up in Redmond, Wa for a 2 day Christian Musicians Worship Workshop. Linc taught a few classes as well on tone, but my highlight was his concert Friday night. This man is definaltley a powerful tool for out King! Thank you Linc!
Its actually track 3, give him praise from his new album Today is The Day. He has an instructional dvd, but i don't believe this will be included in it.
We all love smooth bass solos, or some stuff like that, but you see Victor Wooten slapping his bass all around during his solos. Most musicians will do something with a purpose and an intent behind their action.
I think we should also credit the keyboard player because he is an amazing musican too! He never gets a mention on youtube comments, always seems to be just for Lincoln and Norm. The keys really do add so much to the whole sound, almost fills in all the gaps.

Yeah, he really only uses the POD X3 Live as a mic'ed up amp simulation. The only effects I've seen him use on the PX3 are the wah for the "beatbox" technique he does and maybe a hair of delay, but that's it. Everything else is from his Boss stompboxes.
rodwyr 2 years ago
@xXGzArRuKXx yes he used to use the pod x3 but he now uses the line 6 pedal. my pastors son who is the guitar player at our church looked it up and went and got it. i believe it is available at guitar center.
1nathana 1 year ago
@xXGzArRuKXx i agree, i love the fact he just rips your face off but is a Christian! love it! but he recently switched to the AXE-FX pro or something.
ahvaimusicom 1 year ago
@ahvaimusicom yes he switched to Axe FX from Fractal Audio and i think he´s using their amps too, we should wait for the release of his new album in september to see how good is his tone now
xXGzArRuKXx 1 year ago
@xXGzArRuKXx
Very true. And, regarding his sound, people have to remember that he uses American made Fender custom shop Strats. Those make a big difference in the quality of his sound and tone, as will any high-end guitar. Not to mention the fact that he is a sound engineer.
Erikz04 1 year ago
@xXGzArRuKXx i agree, BUT as a musician i want to know what he uses, so its a very valid discussion.
ahvaimusicom 9 months ago
Is it just me or does the bass and organ solo leave something to be desired? I can hardly make out the pitches in his bass tone and the keyboardist played like he had hooves. If it's just me I'll shut up.
tredwards190 2 years ago
As far as the bass tone goes, I wouldn't say it's as bad as you made it out to be but it is lacking a ton compared to what Norm's tone usually is, which amazing. Look him him up on other videos or check out his site, hell even go to the Gallien-Kreuger website and he's the first thing you'll hear!
dannoye65 2 years ago
I agree. Norm is the man, and his tone is a tad bit lacking here. Though its still awesome!
And being a bassist, picking out the tone over everything else is much easier.

ha ha. I just cant stop laughing at that "hooves" comment ha ha. You're hilarious.

Anybody can be good at just about anything, but God gifts each person individually in certain areas. It's up to you to decide what you want to do, but you can't deny that some people are more talented in areas that others aren't.
subsonicbassist 2 years ago
lol, did I ruffle a few feathers? I don't see how anyone can deny that.
karma0522 2 years ago
And so I don't mean offense to anyone, I just don't like hearing things like "God blessed him with mad skillz!" Maybe God blessed him with natural talent, but Lincoln deserves full credit for developing that talent and pursuing his career. It's great that you guys are excited about his religious leanings, but let's respect the man who put in the work to get this good: Lincoln himself.
karma0522 2 years ago
Well, no matter how you think Lincoln got his skills, he says God gave them to him. Are you saying you know more about Lincoln's guitar playing ability than he does? That's absurd
subsonicbassist 2 years ago
well said bro
DiscoBuiscuit 2 years ago
I knew Lincoln when he was a teenager, he was alreay great then, he did practice but so did many others including myself who don't have his abilities after 40 years of playing music.
Tonyimbesi 2 years ago
Yes indeed, he did tour with Steve Perry for a time. Good point.
DiscoBuiscuit 2 years ago

JWeaver60 2 years ago
I think this is total nonsense, and again disrespectful to others and yourself. I've never seen God do squat for anyone, anywhere. You make it happen - no one else. Lincoln wouldn't be able to play worth a darn if he hadn't spent thousands of hours honing his skill. And anyone who spends thousands of hours will get good, even as good as you believers. ;-)
karma0522 2 years ago
Maybe you should message Lincoln personally so he can clarify it.
DiscoBuiscuit 2 years ago
You've never seen God do squat for anyone, anywhere because you've never tried looking.

That is so negative, I hardly know where to begin. You're just plain wrong - anyone who puts in the work can get great at anything they want. Is this what you tell your kids? "Better choose wisely son, because God only gave you talent at certain things, and everything else you'll suck at." Man, if that's what you learned in church, maybe you should consider something a little less pessimistic and limiting.
karma0522 2 years ago
When I do have kids, I'll certainly tell them that they can be great at anything they choose to work at. But whether or not you choose to believe in God, you can't deny that some people are more talented at things than others. It's God that puts those talents in us, and like I said before, we do have a responsibility to hone those talents, whatever they may be. If I've learned anything at church, it's to grab hold of the talents I've been giving and use them for His glory, not fear of failing.
JWeaver60 2 years ago
That's a much more positive comment, thanks for a sensible reply. We each have our own motivations, and I wish you well in all your endeavors.
One thing we can all agree on - Lincoln is a pretty fantastic guitar player. :-)
karma0522 2 years ago
He definitely is. And best of luck to you too.

Tonyimbesi 2 years ago
Great playing, but God didn't "bless" him with anything. He worked his tail off and practiced every day to get to where he is. It's unbelievable to me how many Christians want to give God credit for great accomplishments - how disrespectful to the artist! Lincoln himself deserves 100% of the credit for getting this good. God had nothing to do with it.
karma0522 2 years ago
You sound like a musician :)
DiscoBuiscuit 2 years ago
I'm a musician, and an atheist. I just think you guys do him a real disservice by claiming his skill comes from some mystical higher power. It's really very disrespectful (and if he himself believes that, he's disrespecting himself). Believe all you want - more power to you - but if he hadn't practiced hard and worked his butt off, no amount of God's blessings would have made him this good.
God helps those who help themselves, right?
karma0522 2 years ago
Hey karma, you seem very distraught over this argument. Simply put there should be no argument. According to what you say, Lincoln is disrespecting himself, so there is your answer.

Great to hear a awsome guitar player on the radio, Even better He is a Christian who isn't embarrassed to mention God in His songs unlike many Christian entertainers! I hope this gets more Christian guitar players putting solos back in their songs.

Go steve!!
