After seeing this movie end with this as the credits, I gotta say I'm disappointed there isn't an American version that ends with it instead of "One Minute Warning".
I adored this movie since i was 14 in 1996 after being blown away by Akira and i bought this movie at one of the mall's in Albuquerque which is an hour away from my town of Socorro. This blew my mind away including amazed by Kusanagi's body at that age though her face could have been better like the cutie Kusangi in the manga and TV show.
Anyone thinks this movie inspired both The Matrix and Avatar? afterall Avatar is similar in terms of going into another body like Kusangi and Puppet Master both did. James Cameron and The Wachowski Brothers are both fans of this movie.
The father of the genre is usually thought to be William Gibson (in the west anyway). Other major influences include the writings of Hofstadter and Baudrillard.
@Johnlindsey289 the wachowski bros did explicitly state this as one of their inspirations yeah..and forgive me for being a bit crass, but i'm sure Terminator Inspired Shirow in atleast a minuscule way
Terminator did influenced Shirow as did Akira and Blade Runner influenced the manga. GITS did influence many movies besides Matrix such as The Island, Minority Report, and so much more. Even anime has inspired many filmmakers like James Cameron, Spielberg, Guillermo Del Toro and others.
Akira and Ghost in the Shell are both highly unique and imaginitive movies, but I'd have to agree with the others, you simply cannot compare these two great films.
Anyhow, I love how the simplistic beat contrasts with the complex vocals. It really comes together splendidly.
I remember watching the scene in the movie where they pan over people just living in a rainy city to this song, it was something else. Mazumane Oshii hit the mark with GTIS, its my fav amine.
If you haven't figured out already (which im sure you have), this is the original 1995 movie, Ghost in the Shell, the movie before the TV Show came out in 2001 and 2004.

to use a cliche its like comparing apples and oranges, both taste good!

Lets put it this way.
Ghost in the Shell is what Akira wants to be when it grows up.
Barricade 2 years ago 6
You can't compare Ghost in the Shell to AKIRA because these two movies are really different.
Videogamestwin 2 years ago 33
Then there's at least one result of the comparation - a big difference.
In general I wouldn't start comparing films to each other. Each of them is its own artwork
schmatzkeks 2 years ago 3
@Videogamestwin but still both are more epic then anything.

@Videogamestwin their Budgets are comparable XD

Thats the best scene in the movie, it's just perfect. I didn't like really the whole film, but that 6 or 7 minutes were just fantastic.

What do you think of the new series?
AyrYntake 3 years ago
didn't the movie come before the series? and was it originally from a comic strip like Akira?
pawiley 3 years ago
Yes.
I didn't enjoy the series as much as I did the movies, though.

The Manga came out in 1989.
The Movies were so much better than the Manga and the series.
