I've got a '64 Bug with a 1600 DP in it, and it didn't take a turbo to get it that quick. According to my Dynolicious app for Ipod touch, it does 0-60 in 9.9 seconds. I've taken it to the local drag strip and it runs 10.80's in the eighth mile @ 62-62 mph so they Ipod app is pretty darn close. I've got dual 36mm Dellorto DRLA carbs, 1.25 rockers, a 12# flywheel, and a modified stock muffler. Yours should be much faster than mine because of the turbo? Btw, I'm running stock single springs too.

I'll say! Doing 80mph in an old Bug is like doing about 450mph in anything else built after about 1926. And if your old Bug's front tires are more than a trillionth of a gram out of balance at that speed you'll be like Daffy Duck in that old Bugs Bunny cartoon when that jackhammer went nuts on him. BTW, yes, that speedo is in MPH.

Agreed, I have a baja bug that tops at 85 mph and it's really scary since the rear is on 31" tires and it has a worn stearing box. Every gust of wind will nearly push you into another lane.

@corvette6698512 LOL your dead right I drive a 64 beetle daily just a twin port 1600 but I took out as much as I could ie back seat headlining door trims etc and regularly do 80 mph a little scary but worth it to pass new 4 cylinder plastic boxes. Power to weight always makes for fun but dangerous driving.

Alright, its a real video shot by my g/f in the passenger seat. I couldn't rev it too high cause of the stupid stock springs on the valves. The wheel is turned becaue the dipshit (me) who shortened the tie rods didn't put them back in quite right. This motor is sold by the way and this car has a 1955 turbo motor in it now.

the wheel is turned and when the car is on blocks.. the wheels spins freely. also its easy to make wind noises. Why wouldnt the camera man show the road?????

dude... the speedo is hoocked up to the front wheels. trust me. i went to change the front brakes on my 1965 bug, and forgot to pull the speedo cable back into the cap. didnt have a speedo for two weeks :D

If it is a turbo on a standard car that is quite unlikely as T1 engines tend to spin up their bearings in the cases if revved beyond 4k unless you balance the bottom end (they were never balanced from the factory).
