  • what a song......What a song.....

  • I will meditate my jealousy away, but for now it's sobbing with Roxy Music.

  • 6 deaf people have no soul

  • i love this version thank you

  • Why is this & Avalon so good, and so much else of what BF has done is so unimpressive, sophomoric?

  • @7855waldo I don't think ' These Foolish Things'.'The Bride Stripped Bare'..'Frantic' 'Boys and Girls' and 'Dylanesque' are "unimpressive, sophomoric."..With some of these productions Bryan Ferry led the way for legions of imitators like The New Romantics. Myself I favor Roxy Music's older stuff which also led the way for

  • @801liveable - "Which also led the way for..."

    For what?

At any rate, there's no objective measurement of artisitic value. We're all entitiled to our separate opinions, and I'm sure that we both agree that we have been a hell of a lot better off with BF having made his way as an artist, someone who I individually appreciate.

  • @7855waldo Pushed the wrong button.message was sent incomplete.Which also led the way for groups like the cars.duran duran. japan.new york dolls.abc.adam and the ants.depeche mode.ultravox.be bop deluxe.moby.radiohead .on and on.you know who they are.you're right, entitled to our opinions.i consider most of ferry/roxy music songs as events..seeing him or the group which i have done everytime in cleveland since 1974 makes it a greater experience indeed..not sophomoric or unimpressive.

  • @801liveable Well said. I'll disagree about the conenction between RM and the succeeding groups you've named.

As good as an imfluence as RM was on the artisits of the later groups, I suspect that they would have made it anyway, roughly in the same form that they displayed during their careers.

Just as BF would have been the same artist that he was/is, had some of his own musical inspirations when he was a teenage not materialized.

  • @7855waldo You don't see a connection between Roxy Music & Duran Duran or Japan or Ultravox or Talking Heads, 1 group I previously omitted? Wow!..Simon Le Bon, himself said we are influenced by Roxy Music and Bowie not The Beatles or Stones like so many other groups..We wanted to be like Roxy Music..If David Sylvian of Japan or David Byrne of Talking Heads aren't modeled after Bryan Ferry, Lou Reed & John Cale than I guess I better clean my eyes and ears out...

  • @801liveable Soap is expensive, save yourself the trouble. All of the above are originals. They may have been inspired, but they were going to be the people they turned out to be, not molded by their predecessors.

Look, I like E.B. White. Always have, for decades. There wasn't a chance in hell that I could or would become the same writer.

  • @7855waldo I stand by what Le Bon said..Oh and another item..Brian Eno just so happen to run into David Byrne while both were touring in Europe in mid 70's..Eno says Byrne told him if it wasn't for the Velvet Underground and Roxy Music, Talking Heads would have no starting point.. 'Kings Lead Hat' is an anagram for talking heads..I didn't say those things... I'm just using them to reinforce my contention..Yes, soap is expensive but I hope you give it some credit for what it does..

  • I discovered Roxy Music & the brilliant Bryan Ferry in early 80's when Avalon came out. I was very young but became hooked forever!

I am LOVING this version here! And aside from all the obvious classics, I really have a soft spot for Street Life!

Thx a million for posting this!

  • dressed to kill and guess who's dying?

  • I was born 1980...........80s music was awesome and still is. Duno about the fashion though!?!?!?

  • "loneliness is a crowded room; empty hearts; turned to stone: all together all alone" all of Sartre in one sentence

  • I've been listening to this song non stop today. Love this song, love Roxy Music! <3

  • Roxy Music: the only concert to make me cry, when BF sang "Jealous Guy." If Lennon can't do it, let's get behind Brian. He's so whip-smart elegant and talented. I couldn't beieve he was right there in front of me. Truly one of my most treasured memories. xoxoxoxx BF

  • Brian Ferry's voice ... undescribable! <3

  • Thanks for posting.

  • It really makes no difference when anybody was born!! I just grateful people out there see the genius he was, would put the now chart toppers to shame!!!!!!!!!! go on roxy

  • @SNOWYTHEBISHON : "Shame" isnt the right word. One is music at its best, the other a resounding gong with less musical appeal than my 5 year old daughter's efforts on the car horn.

  • It really makes no difference when anybody was born!! I just grateful people out there see the genius he was

  • i was born at the end of the 80's. 1987 i was born but Brian Ferry and roxy music still gave me wounderful childhood memories

  • This song needs a martini - with an olive !!!!! Great !!! lol !!!

Roxy Music - one of the BEST Band´s ever !!!!

  • Thanks so much for sharing - takes me right back (to when I was young)

  • yep! agree i'm from 76...remember my mother going dancing!!

  • they dont make records like this anymore bryan ferry is a legand great song

  • I still have this on 12" vinyl somewhere. IMO this is one of the best extended remixes of the 80s. Not overprocessed or filled with cheesy vocal effects - just the perfect mix of the original with some tasteful extended percussion segments. Wonderful. IIRC it was remixed by Tony Visconti. Anyone know for sure?

  • @orchidtender Guess I should have read the original caption - remixed by Bob Clearwater.

  • @orchidtender Clearmountain. No more schnapps tonight!

  • Today's music sucks. Classy song by a class act

  • @ynbeme65 What do you think of Lady Gaga?

  • @FizzySherbet Modern artists dont do it for me.

  • UTube - - Thanks for posting this song!

Listen for great music like this on a new radio station called "OffTheCharts" - featuring 70's (and some 80's) lost hits and chart wonders!

Go to Live365.com, type OFFTHECHARTS in the Search box and click on the station logo. The audio stream should begin. Become a VIP member and listen commercial free!

This song is being featured this week!

  • que pasada no? pum pum pum pumpumpum very nice

  • love it

  • This track shows that, on occasion, a true "extended" version - and not something re-recorded for extended play in a substantially different form (think New Order's "Substance" or Madonna's "You Can Dance," not that those records are losers by any means) - can supplant the studio track as a different version. This lengthier cut of the song originally on FLESH + BLOOD sounds much more seductive in this form. When will iTunes get w/ the picture and make it available?!

  • Never ever listen like THIS

  • is the first time i hear this song , :)))) super nice

  • Class English act way before their time so cool and all very talented all from music school all could oplay instruments not like most of todays acts

  • i love this song !!!!!!!

i have done since i was 10years old

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't know an extended version of this existed.....Fantastic!

  • Lonliness...it's a crowded room. Killer lyrics on this brilliant track. God Bless all members of this band!!

  • I can remember this song being on television when i aws 3 years old ! My parents were on holiday and i was in my babysitters livingroom ! Such a vivid memory

  • xiroi 87 merci, thank you, my english is not fluid, but that's it what I wanted knowing.

  • Sweet!

  • Glasklarer sound!!!!

Bin 1964 geboren, das geht in die Ohren und ins Hirn. Seit 30 Jahren

    Supiiiiiiieeeee.

  • this song reminds me of my bff way back in the 80's we waltzed to it one night like real pros i miss her so much

  • T.G.I.ROXY!!! it's that kind of night

  • @POPOL540 I don't speak French, are you asking the name of the blonde guy who played with them in 1979? If so, that's bass player Gary Tibbs, then he went to Adam & The Ants, Code Blue, Zu Zu Sharks and The Fixx. Check the song Face to Face by Code Blue.

  • @Xiroi87 merci, many thanks, my english is not fluid, that's it i wanted .

  • roxy music = geile musik brian ferry = geiler typ

  • c'est tres bon... it's very good, eh!

  • it kinda has a 70's feel to it, excellent song!

  • i was 10 wen this came out and my brother had the album

    timeless classic

  • First listened to Bryan/Roxy in '74 as a frosh at Penn State. They never get old.

  • "Dance away the heartache" - very pretty sentence. I like it.

This song is great when you are alone and not anybody is interested in you. It is also wonderful while driving in the dark for hours like a lonesome cowboy.

  • The best just got better!

  • This is real music. Thanx for the post!

  • best ever, wonder how many birds ferry had?

  • Wow this is awesome!!!!!! 5/5

  • Wonderful Song. Roxy Music is the best of the UK....

  • any more brilliant surperb class

  • my tutor at IMW in london told us that this guy is a legend and i thought id pass by and say hi

  • I closed my eyes and danced till dawn...

  • great song by a great vocalist kind of overlooked, has written some great tunes and done good covers, especially I put a spell on you

  • i always think of raymond when i hear listen to this.

  • This is a classic ... synchronized with your heartbeat ... Roxy Music... masters of sound and emotion ... sweet.

  • touche`

  • nice long version, brings back memories of a sad breakup.

  • My children dances with me "away".....

    Thank you!!!!

  • wonderful.thanks

  • I don't think I'm ever gonna stop listening to this....!!!

  • @1stCopyGirl

    Get a life!

  • dance away the heartache ive done that so many times.

  • I was born a year after this song came out, and the year "The same old scene" came out, 1980! The way I see it, I might have missed on the whole thing back then, but I did a great job catching up with it!!! lol Eighties people were so romantic and romantically naive, how have we managed to become so cynical in the mean time, I wonder. However, facts are: Roxy music is timeless!

  • you talk like a girl LOL You didnt miss anything this music and most New Wave music wasnt played on American radio. If it wasnt for MTV you wouldnt hear of this great music at all

  • Well, guess what? I am a girl! LOL And nop, Im not american... also on a plus note as a cultured and quite 'avant garde' european I'm always very much updated as far as new wave is concerned, so I'm pretty sure that I would be more than aware of it during the 80ies!! Actually I would be right in the middle of the whole scene, meaning in London, clubbing to it in some dark corner of the east end!! lol Anyway, it's all good! Great material this band is!!

  • what country are you in now? I like British rock so much better than American

  • I'm in Lisbon now, (I'm portuguese), and in a couple of weeks I'll be back in London. You're right, British music in general is definitely edgier and raw sounding! It just sounds more real and down to earth. I mean, the Americans have good stuff too, on a more polished and brushed register, but they do. Personally, however, as a European I really can relate more to what the Brits do! I guess I like the rawness of how the old continent still sounds... still that is! lol

  • HI heucatia

one of my favorites Elvis Costello will be interviewing Nick Lowe on sundancechannel

    check it out

  • @heucatia :"Eighties people were so romantic and romantically naive"

Say what?................and your expertise is based on what?.........graduate-level study of the political and economic climate of that decade and decades since?.......or first-hand experience as a child prodigy?........Amazing how many experts there are on certain decades, like the '60's, when most of such experts are under 50!!..........go figure.

  • @toddwindyhill no, it's just based on music! So go figure why you don't think you fit in?! Don't make more of it than it already is!!!

  • @heucatia: Agree; 1979 was a VERY challenging year for me and this song sums it up. BUT in April 1980 my 2nd daughter was born......a lady of immense gifts, who has been a miracle in my life, along with her miracle sister, born November, 1977.....an MD since 2005...........Roxy and Bryan keep memories alive.

  • @heucatia 60s and 70s were better but yea this is a great song. One of my favourite Bryan Ferry songs.

  • @heucatia 1980 is my birthyear 2, so I didn't grow up with Bryan Ferry but it didn't take me to long to get to know him in my teenage years. Roxy music and A-ha are my favourite bands of all time.

  • Thanks so much for this!

  • Dig the percussion and guitar on the extended. I graduated from high school in 1979 when this came out. Seems like yesterday. 48 yrs. old and still rocking!

  • i neeeeeeed this tune to pump out my mark 1 golf!

  • I saddest song I ever seen

  • hahahaha

  • Fantastic. I just rocked out to your version. I think this version, plus the one on "Live at the Appollo" are the best.

  • thanks, very nice extended version. Didnt know it existed.

  • YW/ NP

  • Their most accessable song before the Avalon album.

  • What I've never been able to understand is how, Jerry Hall could leave Bryan Ferry for Mick Jagger.

Ferry is much better looking, poor guy.

  • my heart was broken by a 14 yr olf girl in Aberdeen Scotland...I never got over it, but this song made me cry many times

  • 14? Give it time. I expect the judge will give you some.

  • Oh sad - my heart was broken many times by mean guys but you just have to get over itxxxxx

  • 14? hell, this song makes me weep up at 47 thinking of a lady i was with 12 years ago.

  • We either literally or figuratively "dance away the heartaches".......don't we?

  • love it !

  • This song is relaxing.

  • i never heard this version, thanks for uploading it...

  • One of his Best...

  • I think I have only heard this long version a few times prior ... I love it!!! Thank you for posting it ... Julie :)

  • great trac...ahhh the memories thx

  • Hello,

    youtube sucks.

    Yes you are absolutely right.

    .

The terrible anomie feeling that I and it seems you sir, have obtained after associating in good faith with the you-tube company, is the feeling that we are supposed to get when dealing with a robot.

    .

Something to put to good use in prepartation for other entities that deal with lots of people and who are just not able to offer anything to the folk they come into contact with.

    Sad !

  • bryan ferry was like elvis in terms of sex appeal, tom jones in terms of singing style and vocal versatility and frank sinatra in terms of being a great performer and showman.

  • Love the guy, but he doesn't hold a candle to Freddie or Frank. I think Tom even has better chops, but that ain't a diss. Thanks for the up.

  • This makes me happy in my soul reminds me of good good times in Manhattan nightlife and simply having fun : )

  • I love the Ferry.

  • awe some and some

  • bryan ferry has one of the soulful voices next to elton john, rod stewart, freddie mercury, jim kerr and david bowie

  • Excellent call dude, love the name too..double good call...

  • love this song

  • This and I danced away MANY heartaches......believe me.....but they all came full-circle!!....with my 2+ miracles!!

  • Well, well, isn't this lovely.. ;-)

  • Love it! Thankyou :)
