those are some beautiful paintings! i always wonder why religious types are so quick to take offence, but think that their own beliefs can never offend others. on the issue of what religions are fair game, i would venture that an artist like to dwell in what the know and have experienced. for example italian romantic painters would not paint shiva or allah. Ellyn sticks to her guns, i respect her for that.

Not that, but it's the unwritten rule of race-ethnic-religious relations where you can criticize your in-group only. It's the same reason why Black comedians can use the N-word and maybe roast African Americans harshly with their comedy, but White comedians can't do the same to Blacks. It's basic common sense that she doesn't go after Islamic beliefs since she comes from a Judeo-Christian background.

I subscribe to no religion, but I know enough about them to know what you can get away with. I don't find this woman's work to be particularly good, but she has the right to express herself like anyone else. As long as she sticks to jews and christians, she will most likely be fine. Islam is another matter. Just ask Theo Van Gogh. Which brings up another point. If you are going to attack one religion, have the balls to attack them all. Not just the "safe" ones.

It is only smart and sensible to leave going after Islamic beliefs with a paint brush for an agnostic artist from a Muslim background. Believe it or not, that happens all the time in the Middle East; you just don't hear about it, and it doesn't make the news because it is less offensive when it's someone from within the in-group.

Her artistic skills are "meh" to me , a couple of paints have this little haunted mansion feel.but she clearly used the 14th century type of paintings as a source of inspiration
