Actually, in Aerith's little diary or whatever, she says she cared more about Cloud than she ever did Zack, though it's not completely 100% confirmed canon, he reminded her of Zack, but she still loved Cloud a ton, and who wouldn't? Cloud was never in SOLDIER, but he still saved the fuckin' day. He did so much with so little. So what if he's emotionally scarred? He's got heart.

BTW, Aeris has always been a very weakly done character. The love fans give her is only because she got stabbed by Sephiroth; but the so-called "romance" between her and Cloud never happens. Ever. They barely even get time to talk with each other on a personal level beyond one (optional) dates and even then Cloud is nonresponsive. I never understood how emo he gets off a girl he barely ever knew while his childhood friend is so clearly into him.

And it's funny, it was actually that sweet flower girl in the conservative, pink dress that was the big flirt and took a sick pleasure in crossdressing Cloud. If their roles were reversed, Tifa would get roasted. Looks can be deceiving.

But everyone has their own opinions. I found Aerith to be the dumb one to be honest and she was ALWAYS up Cloud's ass and TRYING to get Tifa jealous, she even liked the love triangle thing too. She to me, was beyond rude. She did stuff on purpose to upset Tifa when it came to Cloud, and she hung on him way too much.

Here's what it went: Kefka told Sephiroth that if he fights someone from his realm in this world, forgotten memories will be restored at some point, since Sephiroth wanted to lure Cloud (Knowing that he's from his world.) into fighting him, in order to gain his memories, he goes after Tifa cause Sephiroth knows that Cloud wants to protect her, then Kefka tells Cloud that Sephiroth is gonna kill Tifa at the the place you see... This is what happened afterwards...
